Based on 1 year's data from Jan 28, 2026 How it works
I have the same one and it’s excellent, strongly recommend it.
I’m using an old AF portable air conditioner and it cooled my living room area perfectly. I turn it off at night and use a different one in my bedroom which also cools the room down great!
Portables are the least efficient (window mount units are middle, central AC the most efficient). HOWEVER, dual hose portables are WAY better than single hose. Some units have two separate hoses entirely, some have a single large split hose which accomplishes the same thing. We have [this one](https://www.visions.ca/danby-14-000-btu12-000-sacc-3-in-1-portable-inverter-dual-hose-remote-wi-fi-dpa120cbimbdb-rf?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw7pO_BhAlEiwA4pMQvNjTeUGAG62_GhpY4Hous1246LOde9aM88ZGkwNNQ_j1natT4Y-GjhoC20UQAvD_BwE) and it's much better than our two single hose units. Had it for two years.
Dual hose inverter. I had a Danby that was good. I've heard Whynter is good but the reviews for the new ones don't look great. Maybe more of a question for a different sub though.
Costco portable Danby 12000 btu
I'll second this. I bought a 120000btu Danby portable unit in 2011. I've used it every year since. It's still going strong. I opened it up to clean the coils this year. They weren't even dirty.
Just got the rebadged Danby version of this. I even used the Midea Air App (at the suggestion of another redditor). I've always been against portable AC's compared to window shakers. Window units seem to last forever, cheaper, and work better, or so I thought. I went for this one because of the inverter and the dual hose, which are both in the same hose, and the self evaporating feature when using cool mode. I didn't want to empty any water, and the exhaust hose being inside the entire hose (idk it's hard to explain) helps cut down on heat returning into the room big time. Funny enough it only uses 250 more watts than the window unit I installed and removed. 1370 watts for a 12,000 btu a/c is on par with a window unit. I had to use an AC support stand for the window unit. It was sketch and was vibrating like a mofo so I went and got the portable one. Thing is quiet and pretty efficient, and the app is awesome. Don't have to buy a wifi ir blaster like in the past to control window units. Get the Midea or whatever rebranded version they have in your area, it's sweet 👍🏼
Another vote for Costco. I purchased a portable air conditioner there last year so this is our second summer with it. I don’t drive so having it delivered was nice. Their return policy is good. Also, I’m not sure if this is true as this was my first air conditioner purchase ever but a neighbour told me that portable air conditioners with a single exhaust hose are not that good for large spaces and to find one with a double exhaust. My main floor is pretty open concept. Costco had one with the double exhaust so I got it. Very pleased.
The brand is Danby
I have this one and it’s great…quiet and can use an app to control the unit so you can turn it on on your way home. https://www.costco.ca/.product.4000235918.html?langId=-24&province=ON&NATAPP=SEARCH&COSTID=iosapp_25.6.1&TRACKING=NO&adobe_mc=TS%3D1750212788%7CMCMID%3D04144384500392063134796221085155567446%7CMCORGID%3D97B21CFE5329614E0A490D45@AdobeOrg&sh=true&nf=true
Yours sounds defective. My apartment isn’t that big, and I’m blocking one room off, but my living room was cold enough that I had to put on an extra shirt Mines Danby from Canadian fire
