"A good robovac is a life changer. Even a $350 basic S8. It is a great place to start. ... I promise you that you will not be disappointed by a basic S8. It will change your life even if it can't fit under every piece of furniture you own. ... My two S8s just finished vacuuming our entire house in about 46 minutes. ... While my floors were being cleaned, I sat comfortably on our patio in the cool shade with a slight breeze and composed my far too long response to you while sipping a diet soda and relaxing. ... I will have to spend about four minutes maintaining my two S8s. This will be my entire contribution to my home floor cleaning effort for today. Four minutes!"

"Like 500$ these robots are currently the steal of the century ... You can get a mova p10 pro ultra (cannot remove its mops), equivalent to the l40/x40 for 500$ after a discount code"

"For an open style earbud, these genuinely surprised me with their overall performance in sound at this price point. ... IMHO, these Soundpeats PearlClip Pro are probably the best I’ve heard in this under $50 price category when it comes to this style of earbuds. ... These are one of the best clip-on earbuds in this price category especially when it comes to price to performance in sound quality and feature set"

"The roborock I have kicked and smashed with my foot so many times out of anger when it doesn't collaborate, and still he rocks 4-5 yrs later and no broken parts"

"they are extremely durable. ... I’ve got well over 1000 miles out of a pair and they still have grip and the uppers are in great shape"

"I've used them for 1500 miles of multi-day hiking with no issues!"

"This was a game changer for me. Each night before I ran the S7, I had to manually move and rearrange items on the floor so it didn’t get stuck. With a kid and a dog, it’s easy to have toys under the rug, spoons in random places on the floor etc. My S7 would always get stuck on those and fire away an SOS in the app and I’d have to get outta bed and reset the robot clean cycle. The Slim has made me truly appreciate the *set it and forget it* style I prefer. Yes, I still do move/check for randoms but it doesn’t get stuck up on the stuff I’d miss. 3/4 score in my ultra scientific yet real world test! It even manages to dodge when my dog is sitting on the rug and shows a ‘Pet’ notification in the app! ... Wires - not a problem! ... It did manage to 'touch' the flip flops but didnt mess up ... Nudged the ball but didn't get stuck on it like my S7 did"

"cleaned it just as quickly. ... It navigates far more efficiently and cleans rooms in a fraction of the time it took my Roomba."

"They're awesome- LiDAR room mapping ... Um roomba doesn't use Lidar which is why it doesn't do a good job mapping the rooms. Or figuring out what floor it's on."

"On hard floors it was as exceptional and never left a piece of cat litter in between the wood planks."

"And my dust bag was full the first month. ... We have 3 highly shedding dogs and the roborock qrevo master does well but evidently the p50 does better. The roborock bag wouldn't be full the first month like this."

"I’ve seen on the camera the poor guy making multiple trips to self empty while in one room but it’s cut the hair buildup tenfold."

"If you look at it in sections it's no that hard to diagnose and do small repairs yourself if they for some reason should break. ... Don't be afraid of taking them apart, there's many repair guides available and most robots look 90% the same inside for the features they have. ... From what i can tell, the roborock robots today have nearly identical vacuuming fan as the old S5 ... Roborock... might be the easier ones to get second hand parts for as they're the most popular and share many parts. ... Yes, they are "easy" to repair, but it takes a little time. You will have small screws, ribbon cables and boards just like any other computer. Imagine it like Lego, have patience and don't rush it, and if you loose a screw or ten it probably doesn't matter as they are overengineered for the factory line."

"The S5 can be held alive forever with cheap original parts from AliExpress."

"I got more than my money’s worth out of the old Roborock S5’s. ... Spare parts were readily available, a big community, YouTube videos showing how to fix things…"

"I really like the idea of the 2 rollers for the hair so it can’t tangle. HUGE problem in my household. lol."

"cleaning the brush roller often for the wife and dogs long hairs is very annoying and a bit gross"

"long hair will still tangle around the ends of them and eventually stop them from spinning. ... This happens every third run if i don't clear them after the second run."

"Oh yeah, the 30 day bin does not apply to shepherd and husky owners in any way shape or form!!"

"The claim of 30-days before emptying is BS, as that’s based on a non pet hair household. ... I auto run it 3 times a week and empty maybe 1-2 times a week."

"I was constantly emptying the dust bin manually"

"The vision system isn’t as accurate when mapping. ... Z70 is still learning and it ties rooms together through walls that don’t exist."

"When it got older it more and more often happened that it read the map wrong, couldn't find the rooms, couldn't find the station ... should have let it make a completely new map again I guess, but that took forever and a lot of supervision as well. ... So I often came home to a job half done."

"So apparently today it recognised the leg base of the piano and tried to automatically pick it up to sort but failed."

Smart thermostat for sure, after that my “high end” robot vacuum dreame x50 ultra. Had a basic Roborock s5 Max before but it was bad at mopping and got stuck so often. The Dreame delivers big times. I some smart lights but they are not in the top tier list.

I'm on my second roborock, a Qrevo C. Had an S5 Max with a battery that wasn't holding charge well. It is over 3 years old. My first robot was an Ecovacs. Had pretty much constant errors, when I picked it up to clean sensors it wanted to remap again. I sent it for service, got it back 2 weeks later and it was worse. Got one minute off the dock, complained of dirty sensors, picked it up to clean it, started remapping again. I returned it, was only 4 months old. Just junk! Been with roborock since and the model I have now is amazing. I'll never change. Their app is far superior to what I had with Ecovacs, especially for map editing. I can't comment on the Dreame.

I have owned 2 S5 Max units for 5 years. The water pump broke on both within the first year, but that was ok because the "mopping" is the equivalent of dragging a damp wash cloth around and wasn't meeting my needs anyway. There are much better mopping options, but the S5 Max unit is a total workhorse for vacuuming. I have relegated mine to vacuuming up cat litter before I run a Dreame vac/mop.

Have been using the S5 Max daily so many years now and it still runs perfectly. I can only imagine what current gen models can do. So I would say: I disagree. Edit: scratch all that I just now noticed you spoke about mops not vacuums. Mopping on the S5 Max is barely like dragging a wet towel over the floor.

So I have a S5 Max that I've been using for a few years and like. Mopping isn't the best but better than nothing I suppose. Was wondering if there is a model worth upgrading to with the annual sale going on? I have carpet and hardwood and would be nice to have a self empty dock. Not really wanting to go above $400.

I bought 2 x Roborock S5 Max second hand for €150 each. All the parts are replaceable easily, sold on AliExpress etc. I installed Valetudo on it, which honestly wasn't hard. There's a tear down vid on Youtube, and it's just loads of screws. The instructions are really clear on the Valetudo page. They've been running great for 2 years now. Highly recommend.

I've had my Roborock S5 Max wedged below the hallway shoe cabinet for years. It fits to the millimeter and is completely out of sight when docked. Of course it has one of those small, charge only, docks but I don't see why newer ones wouldn't work. From what I've seen, I believe they only need clearance in the front of the dock. You should check the manuals

r/RobotVacuumsAnyone using a roller mop for more than 3 months? Still recommend it?

Yes. I've had the Roborock Dyad Pro for a couple of years, it's great. We use our Roborock S5 Max for vacuuming and the Dyad for mopping. We also clean the bathroom floor with (lots of) running water very frequently and we use the Dyad to suck it all up. We used to waste so many paper towels to dry it before

I'd extend that a bit lower. The S5 Max is what I have, and while it doesn't have the fancier bells and whistles like auto emptying, they do a great job vacuuming and navigating. I rarely have to do any floor cleaning. Though, when one of my S5's breaks, I'm definitely going for one of the high end ones.

I think I'll skip another sale because of these dumb model names and differences. I have been wanting to upgrade my S5 Max for a while but I don't care enough to spend hours trying to figure out which robot is actually the one I want.

Look for a used S5 Max. It's a vacuuming beast. It has a mop function, but I never use it because it's horrible.

It's not so bad. I had seven, but now I "only" have five at home and two at work. They're all older models bought dirt cheap as "defective" and repaired by replacing sensors, a wheel, etc. S5 Max and S7 are the best in my opinion. S7 Maxv Ultra isn't too shabby either. I won't buy anything with a Q in the name.

From what I've been seeing in the sub-reddit over the last 8 months or so, many of the new models, most with a Q in the name, are just not performing and falling over in many and varied ways. The older models, S5 Max, S7 usually have parts failures after many years which are easily repaired with spares from Ali Express. My original gangster Xiaomi V1 has never needed anything other than new brushes. The S5 Max and S7s seem to be following in that same tradition. The older vacs were made very well. The newer ones, I'm not so sure about.

Buy a used S7 or S7 Maxv Ultra. From what I have been reading the past months on this forum, many of the new models, especially those with a Q in the name, seem to have lots and lots of issues.

A used S5 Max would be my choice. Or a used S5 Max with an easy to repair problem such as Lidar. Very easy to change out the Lidar for a new one.
