"S5 going strong ... never replaced anything ... it even fell from the balcony once"
"Used it daily for 1.5 years. ... Moved and kept it in storage for 3 years. ... Took it out a year ago to use at another place and still going strong daily. ... Leaning towards Roborock simply for reliability."
"My roborock S5 max is over 6 years old now ... its still one of the best things I bought."

"My roborock S5 max is over 6 years old now ... its still one of the best things I bought."
"My roborock S5 max is now getting 6 years old. ... Surprisingly, still on the original battery ( a new one is cheap when I need it). ... I did have to replace one wheel motor recently, that cost me 25 euro. ... 2 of my family members have the same robot and are about as old, and both still going strong. ... honestly I never expected it to outlive much more than its 2 year warranty period."
"I got more than my money’s worth out of the old Roborock S5’s. ... Spare parts were readily available, a big community, YouTube videos showing how to fix things…"

"my 2,000 Pa S5 outcleans my 22,000 Pa Z70 ... But when I put my hand on the exhaust, way more air flows out of the S5. ... According to Vacuum Wars testing, the Z70 only moves 16 CFM while my S5 moves around 17-18 CFM - so my older vacuum actually has better airflow despite the lower Pa rating. ... For actually picking up dog hair and debris, you need **air volume** (CFM) to lift and transport stuff into the vacuum. ... My 7-year-old vacuum has better real-world design than the newer model. ... I chose it because it seemed similar to my old S5 which worked well for me."
"While the S5 just eats poop and continues running through everything"
"the robots are amazing at vacuming up hair and crumbs"

"The S5 mapping I think is superior to both still, even over 5 years old;"
"No camera, just lidar."
"Make sure to disassemble the lidar and check the motor shaft, it attracts hair and slows it down, it also causes the rubber band to slip. And take a cotton q-tip and gently clean the lens. ... it worked for the older s5max."

"If you look at it in sections it's no that hard to diagnose and do small repairs yourself if they for some reason should break. ... Don't be afraid of taking them apart, there's many repair guides available and most robots look 90% the same inside for the features they have. ... From what i can tell, the roborock robots today have nearly identical vacuuming fan as the old S5 ... Roborock... might be the easier ones to get second hand parts for as they're the most popular and share many parts. ... Yes, they are "easy" to repair, but it takes a little time. You will have small screws, ribbon cables and boards just like any other computer. Imagine it like Lego, have patience and don't rush it, and if you loose a screw or ten it probably doesn't matter as they are overengineered for the factory line."
"No significant issues with any of these. Have not had to repair or replace any parts except brushes and mop pads"

"When it got older it more and more often happened that it read the map wrong, couldn't find the rooms, couldn't find the station ... should have let it make a completely new map again I guess, but that took forever and a lot of supervision as well. ... So I often came home to a job half done."
"replaced it after the LDS stopped being reliable."
"these are pretty dumb robots and very often get stuck somewhere or devour something and not make it back."

"Mopping on the S5 Max is barely like dragging a wet towel over the floor."
"Feel like I actually have a robot vaccum now that I have the Omni station and an actual usable mop. ... The mop roller on the yeedi was a big factor. I have not been impressed or interested in the spinning mop disc pads on most other options though I was hoping for Roborock to make the switch."

"The tangled hair in my S5 drives me nuts."
"cleaning the brush roller often for the wife and dogs long hairs is very annoying and a bit gross"
"I'm used to having to tear and cut off pet hair from basically everywhere, main brush, side brush and wheels, after nearly every run."
Smart thermostat for sure, after that my “high end” robot vacuum dreame x50 ultra. Had a basic Roborock s5 Max before but it was bad at mopping and got stuck so often. The Dreame delivers big times. I some smart lights but they are not in the top tier list.
I'm on my second roborock, a Qrevo C. Had an S5 Max with a battery that wasn't holding charge well. It is over 3 years old. My first robot was an Ecovacs. Had pretty much constant errors, when I picked it up to clean sensors it wanted to remap again. I sent it for service, got it back 2 weeks later and it was worse. Got one minute off the dock, complained of dirty sensors, picked it up to clean it, started remapping again. I returned it, was only 4 months old. Just junk! Been with roborock since and the model I have now is amazing. I'll never change. Their app is far superior to what I had with Ecovacs, especially for map editing. I can't comment on the Dreame.
I have owned 2 S5 Max units for 5 years. The water pump broke on both within the first year, but that was ok because the "mopping" is the equivalent of dragging a damp wash cloth around and wasn't meeting my needs anyway. There are much better mopping options, but the S5 Max unit is a total workhorse for vacuuming. I have relegated mine to vacuuming up cat litter before I run a Dreame vac/mop.
Have been using the S5 Max daily so many years now and it still runs perfectly. I can only imagine what current gen models can do. So I would say: I disagree. Edit: scratch all that I just now noticed you spoke about mops not vacuums. Mopping on the S5 Max is barely like dragging a wet towel over the floor.
So I have a S5 Max that I've been using for a few years and like. Mopping isn't the best but better than nothing I suppose. Was wondering if there is a model worth upgrading to with the annual sale going on? I have carpet and hardwood and would be nice to have a self empty dock. Not really wanting to go above $400.
I bought 2 x Roborock S5 Max second hand for €150 each. All the parts are replaceable easily, sold on AliExpress etc. I installed Valetudo on it, which honestly wasn't hard. There's a tear down vid on Youtube, and it's just loads of screws. The instructions are really clear on the Valetudo page. They've been running great for 2 years now. Highly recommend.
Been using a roborock s5 max for the last 5 years with no issues. Before that I used a miele s5. Which I still have go hoover the sofa and the doormat
That wont work, the s5 max doesnt have a auto empty dock, getting a robovac with a auto empty dock would help his issue.
Oh yeah thats my bad I didnt understand what you said, but yeah most of the really cheep robo vacs (like under 150) dont come wiht auto empty, tbh i dont really think you should get a robovac if it doesnt have a auto empty dock.
I've had my Roborock S5 Max wedged below the hallway shoe cabinet for years. It fits to the millimeter and is completely out of sight when docked. Of course it has one of those small, charge only, docks but I don't see why newer ones wouldn't work. From what I've seen, I believe they only need clearance in the front of the dock. You should check the manuals
Yes. I've had the Roborock Dyad Pro for a couple of years, it's great. We use our Roborock S5 Max for vacuuming and the Dyad for mopping. We also clean the bathroom floor with (lots of) running water very frequently and we use the Dyad to suck it all up. We used to waste so many paper towels to dry it before
I'd extend that a bit lower. The S5 Max is what I have, and while it doesn't have the fancier bells and whistles like auto emptying, they do a great job vacuuming and navigating. I rarely have to do any floor cleaning. Though, when one of my S5's breaks, I'm definitely going for one of the high end ones.
