"I’ve seen on the camera the poor guy making multiple trips to self empty while in one room but it’s cut the hair buildup tenfold."

"One huge leg up for a Shark over Roomba is that the brush roller is similar to a vacuum (e.g. hard plastic), whereas the roomba is a plastic roller with a rubber cover that is DESTROYED by dog fur and you have to frequently replace."

"RoboRock S8. We have 2 cats and the hairiest dog ever. This is 9/10 ("

"I've used it daily for at least 10 years now, probably closer to 15 and apart from the fact you need to clean it periodically, it's still works like brand new."

"it mapped the house really well. ... Turns out it will still get areas when I move furniture anyway. We got rid of a loveseat after the house map was completed and I told it to run the next day. It got the new empty area with no problem."

"It maps well! Many don't."

"Mine maps and shows you the actual map of everything in the room including the obstructions like furniture."

"splurge for the self emptying because if you have to empty it every time you're less likely to use it. We only have to empty ours like once a month and I have a 14mo and a 3yo who drop crumbs everywhere. ... we have a Shark with a large self emptying bin and that thing is great for the price point."

"Its a mostly fine robot but not a fan of their mapping software. ... The basic and simple and frustrating issues with the Narwal software have been there now for well over a year. ... Issues like mapping open concept spaces and having easy to use and manipulate split and merge lines have been solved years ago by other companies like Roborock and by Dreame. ... There is no excuse that Narwal - who has most definately been made aware of these issues long ago - has either chosen to ignore fixing 'merge/split' options (and more) or the current team is incapable of doing so. ... As a homeowner with a large open concept layout their mapping software is crap and pretty much renders using their robot useless unless I want to compromise how I use a Narwal. ... Something that is not an issue with Roborock or Dreame or Mova (and probably others also). ... So if a home has basically traditiona wall spaces.Sure. Narwal is great. If the layout is open concept. Then....Narwal no."

"splitting rooms or modifications to the map also has some quirks that annoy me so much."

"it ignores my no go zones"

"Doesn’t work for me. I have a husky so a bit of dog hair and it struggles. ... It goes around it as if it’s an obstruction. ... It then gets trapped in the roller. ... There’s no cutting mechanism so it blocks up quickly and the vacuum isn’t powerful enough to suck it into its storage area. ... I’m not talking about a big clunk of hair either."

"Oh yeah, the 30 day bin does not apply to shepherd and husky owners in any way shape or form!!"

"The claim of 30-days before emptying is BS, as that’s based on a non pet hair household. ... I auto run it 3 times a week and empty maybe 1-2 times a week."

"The object avoidance is pretty horrendous."

"It ran me over and also bumps my dog all the time ."

"it had terrible object avoidance and took some of my lighter furniture for a ride."

"If it doesn't get run at least once a day, the roller brush will get clogged."

"I do have to clean the brush off daily because it will tangle with hair ... My only complaint is the tangled brush ... as long as I go and pop off the back and pull the hair out once a day I don't have any problems."

I had  original roombas for many years.   Saw a deal end of 2024 on Woot for refurbished Shark Matrix self emptying robotic vacuums.   Since then 7 friends and family have done the same  All are very happy,   great deal at $100-$t50.    My Aussie and I both shed a lot, it goes from carpet to tile and cleans throw rugs.     Last time I saw them on Amazon for about the same price

Shark matrix self-emptying. I like it because I can schedule it to run every evening. It’s moves from hard floor to rugs easily

I love my shark matrix v2300s (I think) - it picks up so much of my pet hair and rolls right over rugs and my hardwood. I love it for the pure power. I opted for non mop unit so it solely focused on vacuum power. My only complaint is I can't map my second story as it will delete my first story map. And it can't handle multi floor mapping (my second story). I bring it upstairs and let it clean but it won't generate the map so I can label the rooms ect. Overall a 4.8 out of 5 stars

Smooth sailing. The app is pretty straight forward. Your can set auto cleans every day. I can also do quick spot cleans 5 ft x 5 ft anywhere on my map. I set no go zones, I also can pick between eco mode, normal power and, heavy duty cleans. It's a little loud but not enough to throw me off. My dust bin also holds about 30 days worth of dust. It's my first robot and I'm loving it to be honest! I couldn't have made a better decision. Especially for the price point. I got it for 150 bucks on sale! Worth about 250-300 normally. Also uses lidar navigation which is clutch.

I can choose which room to clean or i can chose if I had an emergency clean up in a specific area. I wish I could see a map of the pattern in which it cleaned in the final report as well. Aside from that im extremely happy with it. I read reviews for like 2 months before putting the trigger on one. I also knew that everyone is trying to solve a slightly different problem with a robot. For example my problem was, I wanted a vacuum that could handle 3 short haired dogs shedding in between the work week. I also needed it to be pretty smart in regards to obstacles. I also needed it to handle rugs (I have a rug in my living room) and hardwood. I realized a mop on my unit wouldnt be so convenient as I have a lot of short hairs being released by my 3 dogs. And the wet mop would just make the hair stick to the ground. I had a long in depth convo with chat gpt in regards to recommendations. And I also watched a lot of just dad robot review videos. Find whats best for YOUR situation and go with it!

I got the shark matrix with the self empty base without the mop. Works great and no issues with the app so far, I also like that It has Google home integration. I paid $200 at Costco, not sure I would pay much more than that. I would look into the refurbished ones I think they get down to like $150

Same here. I have a Dyson animal that I use once a week. I run the self emptying shark matrix the days I don’t use the Dyson. I don’t have carpet though and that seems to help. When we had carpet it required more effort on my part.

I went through 4 different robot models, two of the i4 and two of the i7. All 4 eventually stopped charging or had other issues. Been using Shark Matrix Self cleaning for months no issues.

r/RobotVacuumsSo... Can robovac actually deep clean? If so, which one?

I've got a Shark something-or-other that has a "matrix clean" function (Dreame does something similar, I think) where after it finishes an area/room, it goes back and does it again running perpendicular to the run it just finished. I don't have any idea about the *actual* efficacy, but my spouse ("it's not vacuumed until you've gone over the same spot in 3 different directions") ***loves*** it. Since 'perception is reality', our carpets are cleaner because my spouse perceives them to be so.

What vacuum is this? I’ve been trying difference vac/mop robots I just had the Shark matrix clean and it was terrible would just leak water everywhere when “mopping” was only good as a vacuum but this one looks like it did an amazing job. I also have a carpet in my living room which send the robot for a loop. It wouldn’t know what to do. Sometimes mopping the carpet or skipping it altogether lol.

r/FrugalIs it worth paying more for a robot vacuum if it makes cleaning easier?

I have 2 dogs and 2 cats. I love my Shark robovac. I got the one that self empties and will continue after it does. It was worth it to upgrade with all the pet hair because both our dogs have blow out twice a year and one cat sheds like crazy too. So it doesn't need me to empty it every 6 minutes.

r/smarthomeAny good robot vac that actually fit into a smart home setup?

I have a Shark robot vacuum with the auto-emptying feature. The auto-empty is a HUGE part of making this work smoothly. The Shark is also much smarter than previous brands (iRobot and EcoVacs) that I tried. I've had mine for over a year and absolutely love it. I have used it with both wood floors and carpet, and 1-3 cats (2 of them with long hair that shed A LOT) and it easily keeps up with all of that. It's also good at avoiding most hazards like cords and cat toys. Costco usually has a recent model of the Shark robot on sale, I've sent a few people there for it. Looks like right now they have a vacuum + mop combo for $479, and you should be able to just not use the mop function if you don't want to. The Shark app is pretty decent, it will map your home and allow you to label rooms and track robot status. You can schedule whole-house cleaning through the app, or do manual cleaning for individual rooms. My only complaint is that I can't schedule individual room cleanings, I have a couple spaces that need daily vacuuming vs every few days for the whole house. Edit - it also has voice control available through Alexa and Google, but I haven't tried that as I use AppleHome which doesn't integrate with Shark.

r/homeassistantWhat are the most reliable robot vacuums for pet hair right now?

I have a Shark self-emptying model that's done amazingly well with up to 3 (long haired, highly shedding) cats on both hard flooring and carpet. I got mine from Amazon a couple years ago, but Costco has the newest model on sale. It's smart enough to map the house and you can name the rooms, and with the HA plugin you can do some advanced scheduling beyond just "run" that the Shark app offers. In my case, 1-2 rooms always end up worse than the others, so I run those more often and will schedule them with HA once I get that finished.
