"I upgraded to a roomba with the self emptying thing and I love it."

"It self empties into the base. ... It changes your life."

"my roomba with self-emptying base is a - and I cannot stress this enough - fucking lifesaver. ... I owned one without the self-emptying base thing and I never used it because emptying it every time it was full was a barrier I wouldn’t get past. Getting the base where the roomba empties itself is a GAME CHANGER."

"Honestly, when I have it on schedule, it keeps the house clean and I don't see any hair at all"

"To me, the most important thing is cleaning all the dirt and leaves, and trash stuck on his fur from the outside on a daily basis... and the robots take care of that."

"I've had my roomba for like 5 years now.. We have 3 big dogs and a cat, in a small house. Still works great, I've replaced the brushes and obviously the filters on it but it still works awesome."

"literally NOTHING robot works like an iRobot that I’ve seen so far esp the j7 and the 988 those are the strongest in their class"

"half the time it isnt running because of a clog in the vaccuum bin or base station. ... The bin is usually easy to fix, but this last time it was the tube that goes to the bag (another expense i didnt have with the shark) and that required disassembly."

"It also burnt out its suction fan in the first month I had it, prompting a warranty replacement of the part which meant had to disassemble the unit, install the new part, and send back the defective part. ... Incredibly frustrating."

"the roomba needs to be lifted up/cleaned by hand almost daily"

"I don’t run it very often because the sound makes my dog bark so I have to only run it when the dog isn’t in the house, which isn’t that often"

"Only thing is it’s kinda loud when it empties itself at the station, so heads up if your doggie gets spooked by noise."

"its noise level... was a nightmare."

"The charging issues are the most annoying because I have to clean the charging pads 20 times before it starts charging again. ... And the reason I trashed my last Roomba and got a new Roomba was because of the charging pad issue. So i gave roomba 2 chances and both models had the exact same issues"

"The battery life was terrible it couldn’t vacuum my newest 1 bedroom apartment without needing to recharge for 2.5 hrs with the most recent update."

"Its alright. When it works its good, but damn every other day it gets stuck, has an error, battery dies, or has charging issues."

"pretty pathetic excuse for mopping"

"They don't seem to have enough traction while mopping even on their lowest setting and using plain water, it'll just start sliding and not go in a straight line. Then it'll give up and be in the middle of a room."

"However, the few times I have attempted to use the mopping feature, it has not worked well at all. ... It starts off fine, but after no more than 10 min if that, it seems to get stuck. ... What it's stuck on is beyond me because it happens in dining room each time & sounds like it's spinning it's wheels (like a car stuck in mud). ... There are no rugs, chairs are moved out of the way & there's no visible debris obstacles like one of my son's marbles or a plastic milk cap or anything. Literally just hardwood flooring. ... I've tried rebooting, I've tried popping the water/mop pad on & mopping immediately (thinking it would help reduce soaking & "puddling" near the wheels), I've tried wiping the wheels and following behind it to wipe up the drag marks of water. But it still spins & does nothing."

"It was making phantom rooms I was done playing the delete and re-map until the map gets perfect, which did work for me in the past but I was over it."

"I’ve set up a no go zone in front of the bedroom doors but I keep removing it before the carpet clean and adding it back in. Quite a pain in the butt."

"half the time it isnt running because of a clog in the vaccuum bin or base station. ... The bin is usually easy to fix, but this last time it was the tube that goes to the bag (another expense i didnt have with the shark) and that required disassembly."

I have the j7 and I have taken it apart more than once to clean it and I'm not super happy with it. I got it at Costco so it might go back before they go belly up. I'll try it again a few more days but I didn't even have it plugged in for 6 months... because we had renovations going on in the house. It's Black Friday week but I prefer to buy from Costco because they do have such a good return policy.

r/dogsIs a Roomba-like vacuum worth it for dogs? I need to be de-influenced for my wallets sake
6 months ago

I’ve had robot shark and roomba. I believe running them daily has prevented us from being buried in dog hair and 100% recommend a robot vacuum. My dogs are very housebroken and I’ve never had the poo every where situation.  Overall, I think the shark works a little better, but I think the roomba’s features and app are better. I just upgraded to the dual vacuum/mop roomba and it’s not perfect but I’m happy. I still have to real vacuum once a week as it doesn’t get all the hair all the time, but the literal basketball was of hair I pull out of the canister every few weeks tells me it’s working pretty damn good.

r/homeownersAre robot vacuums worth it? I’ve got 4 small kids and I’m always sweeping up the kitchen. Now I have a crawling baby so I’m thinking about getting a robot vacuum, preferably the mop/vacuum kind but they are so expensive! Curious if they are worth it and an investment.

We started with one iRobot, it worked great! Later decided on a brava (iRobot mop) and it worked amazingly! I was in my doctorate program and didn’t have time to clean the floors. We have two small dogs and five children. The floors are one thing I don’t have to worry about anymore. We recently moved and purchased two combo vacuum and mop, one is iRobot and the other is ecovacs. I like the ecovac more, it seems smarter, however they both do a great job. We have three stories so there are robot vacuum on each floor, they run every day, this keeps the stairs pretty clean and I vacuum the stairs once a week. Our original robot is eight years old and runs fine with daily use.

I have a Roomba J7+. It was their first one that they say will avoid poo. Fortunately, we've never had to test that in the year we have had Ranger. It works well, but iRobot is having issues with money right now and the model is older. If you get one, it is important to remember that they still require regular maintenance to keep them from getting clogged or overwhelmed with hair.

Hair wraps around the brushes and needs to be removed. If you get a self emptying unit, they cannot get all of the dust out of the bin. Filters need to be cleaned and changed.

Me, too. This is why I'm here--time to replace Dumbot. This will be my 4th robot vac and definitely not looking at iRobot!

My J7+ has always sucked, in all the wrong ways. I named it Dumbot. All I hear is Alexa saying "your Dumbot is stuck". Never understood the great reviews for it.

r/RobotVacuumsDo mopping robots really replace daily cleaning, or do you still ended up cleaning yourself?

Bought a vac and mop roomba. I now that myself now maybe a month. I call my cleaning lady less frequently. So yes.

r/homemakingWhat's the current best robot vacuum that you've ever owned for home use? Really worth it?

I have "only" owned 3. A ecovacs which always broke, a brava moping one and a i robot j7.  My favorite is the i robot j7. It has an auto empty version, but I have the regular. It has object detection (4/5 stars) and room mapping (2/5) over the 3 years I've had it it does stupid crap all the time with room boundaries and eating paper, but I can fix that if I go fight with the settings I hope. My fav part is the robustness, if it encounters a huge problem, the only parts that break are those (and then rarely) are those meant to swap out.

I had the J7+ and it beat the hell out of everything. Upgraded to a revo master and it was a major improvement. I can trust it not to even touch my furniture and speakers, and it doesn't randomly get lost. I stopped updating the J7 because they broke it so many times I stopped trusting them.
