"With three they can just make it to a full week for emptying. ... Life changing."
"I’ve seen on the camera the poor guy making multiple trips to self empty while in one room but it’s cut the hair buildup tenfold."

"An S8 would be great for vacuuming your rugs and carpets ... For $350, my two S8s are very hard to beat! ... Almost all of the ones I thought vacuumed, very, very well have been discontinued except for the S8. ... If a Mova V50 can do 80% as well as our cheap S8s I would be pleased!"

"Roborock with dual rollers is amazing at pulling hair out of carpet. ... Worth every penny if you have a dog that sheds a lot."

"Coming from an S7, which vacuums very well, you will be disappointed with the vacuuming performance of any newer robovac from any manufacturer with auto detangling rollers. This includes that Saros 10R. ... I was so unimpressed with the Saros 10R's vacuuming ability after our S8 that I bought a second $350 S8."
"It is an excellent vacuum cleaner because it has excellent airflow. ... The S8s are vacuuming beasts! ... I have not found anything that can come close to competing with their vacuuming ability. ... it is still my favorite vacuum cleaner. When someone is looking for excellent vacuuming ability, it is still the best recommendation I can make by far. ... it is extremely difficult to find a robovac that vacuums better. ... if one doesn't care about mopping, but one still wants an excellent vacuum cleaner the S8 is really, really hard to beat for many reasons. ... After trying many, many robovacs, it still remains the choice I would make today for specifically this reason. ... You will love its vacuuming ability!"
"Compared to our $350 S8s, our 10R sucks at vacuuming. It is so bad that I do all of our vacuuming with the S8s and only use the 10R as a mop. ... When the S8 goes through right afterwards, it's dustbin is completely full. The S8 that recleaned an already cleaned (by the 10R) room picks up five times as much stuff. I have tried this over and over again with the same results. ... For excellent vacuuming on rugs and carpets, any model of S8 will do great. ... I absolutely love my two S8s! They are cleaning monsters!"

"On top of that, you get a great app, excellent navigation and good obstacle avoidance. ... It also has a really fantastic navigation and obstacle avoidance system that is far superior to any vacuum only robovac that I have experience with."

"my Ecovacs with lidar cruised through our open floorplan house and made the map in under 10 minutes ... the Ecovacs doesn't continuously override the map and add or delete rooms, move the base station to think it's *inside* the wall, or do any of the other idiocy that Roomba keeps doing"

"always leave some traces behind and don’t vacuum thoroughly as I expected. ... The S8+ have the same duoroller as the S8 MaxV Ultra but do lowsy job ... The reality is that my S8+ won’t pick up pieces like popcorn kernels to the full extent and will leave some behind."
"the vacuum itself isnt enough to really suck stuff out of the carpet, more just pick up things on top. I treat it more like a broom than anything else"

"hair tangles ... I had to touch the S8 way too often to remove tangles which meant I ran it less and less."
"All of the newer models with auto detangling rollers perform much, much worse on carpets. ... Part of it is the auto detangling rollers. They do auto detangle hair really well. But they do not kick up debris nearly as well as the older style solid rubber single and double rollers, especially on rugs and carpets."

"The biggest downside to an S8 with an automated dock is the mechanism the dock uses to clean the mops. It is complicated and requires enough maintenance to keep it from filling up with gunk and debris until it clogs. Cleaning this mechanism is more difficult and time consuming than with models that use spinning mops."

"I will not recommend a fancier S8 because of the mechanism required by the docks to clean the mop. It is too complicated and requires too much maintenance. ... If good vacuuming ability sold robovacs, we would all be buying S7s and S8s. But their mop cleaning system is terrible and requires too much maintenance."

I have a roborock S8 - it does an ok job - valetudo is not supported yet as roborock have gone to lengths to prevent it using different encryption keys on the bootloader, I guess they want your data and need it connected to their cloud. Maybe this is because it has two cameras on it. The dust bin is small so if you have carpets it fills up quickly with fibres. The option for auto emptying dock is very expensive The solution is to vacuum more often than you would normally then it doesn't fill up so fast. If you are privacy focussed and want valetudo look at what is supported and recommended by those folks
Thirding roborock. Love mine. I splurged on the self emptying model….totally worth it.
I've had my S8+ (basestation with just dustbin, no water tank) for almost 2 years. And I'm very happy. It cleans twice a week and still going strong. I paid about €1000. I bet the MaxV is even better! Only thing I can complain about is the battery have deteriorated a bit tho, so it struggles with 2h cleaning sessions at max power. Edit: I do regular maintenance and exchange parts as needed. And I regularly clean the robo and filter as well.
Can anyone share their experience with the obstacle avoidance of the Q10 S5+? How does it handle cables and small items like socks? I previously had the S8 and it did a pretty good job with avoiding obstacles and generally was a great robot, I decided to upgrade to a model with an empty station and wondering if I should I go with the Q10 S5+ which is more budget friendly (and has the smallest station I saw) or maybe invest in the pricier s8+
Lmao these numbers i bought an s8 refurbished with 20 hrs usage for 200 and it changed my life
Thats awesome news for me owning a S8+ haha. Another question I have is how the edge kicked down the Curv to 5th spot in rankings, isn't it identical robot and spec wise just different design of the dock? Btw I love your videos!
It's definitely an upgrade to the standard dragging a wet cloth. Flagship Saros 10 is using vibrarise too but its a bit more updated and has more vibration and downward pressure. Not sure how big of a difference in terms of performance it is compared to the S8. If you can find S8 for a good price then I think you wont be disappointed I also think when choosing between rotating and Vibration mops its about preference and what type of floor you have. The rotating mops are using more water I believe and could have a tendency to leave wet streaks on floors
ThW s8 line from roborock is great.
I have 2, one on the ground floor and one on the first floor. Both Roborock, S8 for downstairs (self cleaning mop) and a Q7 for upstairs. It has helped so so much with cleaning. It's great turning it on, going to the store for some stuff and coming back to a clean house. We have 2 cats so there is some litter on the floor sometimes, and just general dust and hair. It makes a map of your house, so if you only need a specific room to be clean you can select that. Usually I try to keep the floors free of stuff when I turn it on (I throw stuff on the sofa). But the Roborock is great with dodging clutter because of the sensors it has. Smaller stuff should be picked up since it can suck those up and get stuck. Also, careful with cords. Once the roborock pulled our playstation across the house hahaha.
Get a Roborock, I recommended mine (S7 or S8) to my friend with 3 dogs and 1 cat and it keeps their floors so nice. It (no exaggeration) saved her sanity. It’s pricey, but it actually works and works well. You have to keep the base station maintained but it’s so simple to clean.
Unfortunately what you want is a niche product… vacuum/mop combos are what is in right now and beyond that, Roborock isn’t the best at that level obstacle avoidance either. With all that said, take the time to research the type of OA you’re looking for. Like full camera (best - but comes with privacy concerns if you care), there are other types too but they typically are worst. With all that said, I own an s8+ (not max v) and have found it to be pretty solid and reasonable priced. It has a mop feature but it’s not a “dual spinning”, etc… but still does an okay job and I’m okay with that.
Also have an s8 with vibrarise. I’ve read that the super “in” dual rotating mops aren’t proven to be better than vibrarise. What I will say is that I think mops on robot vacuums are still a “maintainer/extender” feature than a true mop up stains type of feature. If you manually mop, the s8 will make it so you have to do it less often. It’s not a replacement for that first initial manual mop. Besides that, I’ve enjoyed the s8 as it was an upgrade from my original s4. Obstacle avoidance is pretty good, although, I’m just used to tidying up before running it now a days.
I have a 9 month old so everything you said applies to me… I will say I haven’t checked on the ramp thing but the s8+ I bought last year works very well. It goes over the mats. The reason I bought it was because I wanted better than obstacle avoidance. I was coming from an S4 (not max) which had none. This does a good job, is self empty and does mop too. The mop is a vibrating mop bit the spin type of a revo. This doesn’t bother me as robot mopping still isn’t great no matter what you get, until you’re shelling out $1500+. Even then, I don’t think mopping tech has “matured yet”. I ultimately would just recommend a robot vacuum that has good obstacle avoidance as you just don’t want it to get stuck places since you’re spending time with your kiddo and not worrying about cleaning/picking up as much
