r/homeassistantBest video doorbell recommendation after I was robbed of 3 packages this year

My Eufy S3 Familock keypad lock / doorbell / camera has local storage. I could buy a cloud subscription if I wanted to, but what’s on there is enough. Right now I’m looking at video clips from 2 days ago of the Halloween kids coming around. Plus it’s seriously cool just waving my hand at the lock and it unlocks the door. Yeah, they had some “security issues” IIRC there were some internal employees looking at cloud-stored videos. If you have a doorbell camera looking out at a public space - who cares? It’s not an *insecure lock*, they just had some internal employee issues. I think both of my Eufy’s are very solidly built, even though they do not integrate with HomeAssistant. If you want something that integrates with Home Assistant, Reolink is probably your best bet.

Eufy ... hands down the best ... I have tested at least six manufacturers. With Eufy, I have expanded and now have doorbells and cameras at two locations, units in stock for other uses and in case I have to replace, and the phone app is the best...hands down. I use ProC2 homebase and cameras. You will need to have internet.

Some do. Eufy and Unifi offer dual camera options that they typically call a "package cam" I think the bigger issue is angle and height. A camera will have a wider and further view when you can get ya boi Pythagoras in on the game and angle that camera down. So it's hard to have a doorbell which must by it's very nature be lower down to see people and let them press the button.

Eufy - the one with the home hub for remote storage - fantastic bit of kit. Gave mine to my rents when I moved house and they love it too

Im happy with Eufy, and with central base storage, it will integrate with other cams as well as use AI to track a subject across cans, and stitch a complete cross-cam video.

I have four cameras, two usb that I have rigged up with one in a nest box and the other in our hedgehog feeding station. The two battery powered ( one with integrated solar panel) are monitoring the two hedgehog houses. Brilliant bits of kit for the job. I also have the twin camera doorbell, that's the only one thats for its intended purpose, and it works well.

My bell (the dual camera, powered one - T8203) goes into self-ringing mode when it gets too hot and the sun hits it at the correct angle in the afternoon, usually around 5P. Its not a stuck button and their support has been less than helpful in identifying the issue and agreeing to warranty the bell. So if you live in Florida, have a south facing home and install your doorbell on the east wall facing WSW, a few times a year when the sun is just right, "ding-dong" (and if you have dogs, the commotion that comes with them and a doorbell ring).

I gave up on having mine running through HomeKit and just chose the eufy dual cam one because I already have other eufy cameras and I’m super happy with it.

eufy doorbell does look amazing (2 cam). Working great. Only live stream loading time is sometimes slow (1-5sec). If this would be improved, eufy would be Nr. 1.

Eufy is not intergrated by default, you need to install the eufy addon for intergration. I had a battery doorbell and it can trigger automations (has binairy sensors). The doorbell i had was a bit slow on updating the sensors in HA, and the live stream was not working (p2p). The doorbell i had was supported by the addon. Not all eufy devices are supported by the addon. Look into the addon if your doorbell is supported: https://github.com/fuatakgun/eufy_security. For great intergration with homeassistant i advice to buy reolinks doorbell, got that recently and it has a platinum intergration on HA, and it all works great :-). Good luck on the doorbell journey Edit: I dont recall having any settings for the chime with eufy. Again Here, Reolink can do this in HA intergration.

Ah ok, i didnt have the E340, I had the duo cam directly bound to the homebase. Package detection was not too good here and i turned it off. But I live in the netherlands in a small town, so package theft is not a concern here. I hope you will find what you want! Can definetly advies to take a wired doorbell, cause it will stay on and detect way more than a battery one. Eufy did confirm to me that a battery doorbell will not perform better if you wire it.

I am talking about powersource, eufy said: “the battery doorbell will function the same with or without power attachted, only with power attached it will not run out of battery” it just charges the doorbell slowly to keep the battery from dying. My main problem was the wake time of the doorbell, it took about 3/5 seconds to wake, sometimes this was to slow for the ring button to function and the doorbell wont even ring. This is with a 1 to 2 meter walk up to the doorbell. I asked them if this would change with power attached, but the anwser made me change to Reolink POE doorbell. I suggest to test the eufy doorbel very well before you mount and install everything. My guess is you are best of with a wired only version, that supports 24/7 recording (then you are sure it will just stay on when on power). Maybe the E340 does this, check reviews for this, would be a waste to “upgrade” to something that does not help you :-)
