r/homeautomationChoosing between 3 video doorbells for an apartment

(UK) I have a Eufy battery powered doorbell cam. My door is on the floor below the main living area of my flat. The building is made of reinforced concrete with rebar and the door has metal eight point locking built into it and the bell never loses a wifi signal. I have the Homebase three and a seperate chime in my kitchen. I always hear the bell and so does the courier, so they know it works. A quick check shows you can turn off the bell sound. Couriers here like to do a teeny tiny knock and then leave. One courier waited four seconds before leaving. It is physically impossible for anyone to get to the door in these flats in four seconds. I have fitted a wire basket of the type used on the backs of electric wheelchairs to my door (this is partially shielded by a downpipe so it doesn't protude where anyone would walk) The Royal Mail deliverer puts parcels into the basket but never rings the bell. The downward facing camera watches the parcel and I have a warning notice that the spot is being recorded in the basket to deter thieves. This set up is working great. I did buy a second battery pack and have snapped off one unlocking key by pulling down on it, but with no lasting damage. I am very happy with Eufy but wish it would work with Smart Things.

The parcel alert isn't a feature I use. I have my phone on do not disturb most of the time and make people text me. I think it notified me for a parcel last monday but I didn't look at it. The parcel was there when I got home. My doorbell is watching a communal landing walkway rather than a garden path. I live in the middle of the block so it would ping me about sixty times every day as all the neighbours and their callers walk past my door. I am surprised how busy the landing is at night too. All this movement is recorded and the AI can name my favourite neighbours and spot their dogs and the odd seagull. It knows when the lower camera is used so treats parcels differently. I can check the post by looking at my phone from wherever I am. I have the basket so that parcels aren't just dumped in front of the door or taken back to the depot and the camera makes itself very obvious with two bright LEDs. I live in a sixties low rise concrete block. About 50 people live within 50 metres of me and many of those have their own Smart Home systems. It presents challenges to a smart home wi-fi system that typical low density American construction doesn't. I suspect there is very little testing for this situation.

I have one of these, with a Homebase for storage, a chime in my kitchen and a screen on my desk. Its great. Works perfectly. (Its unfortunate that some people feel the need to downvote without commenting every time their favourite Google/Amazon products aren't being promoted)

I reckon I'll go with the eufy c31 but I'll add a small security screw in the release opening.

r/EufyCamPlanning to switch to the e340 from ring. What's the go to smart hub that will chime and show live doorbell footage for a reasonable price?

I don't know what these folks are talking about. The e340 package detection is useless. I've had packages sitting directly in the second camera frame and not send notifications. Additionally a huge problem with this camera is that it only records events (which it misses most of the time). Do yourself a favor and get the much cheaper c31 instead which is capable of 24/7 recording via HB3 and also sends a video call directly to your phone when the doorbell is rung. Either way you should definitely get the E10 display as well, as it's fairly useful.

r/EufyCamLooking to switch from Ring. Can anyone recommend a doorbell and floodlight/light cam?

I will say you need the eufy e340 floodlight camera will be the best choice. As for doorbell there are a couple of options E340 doorbell (has dual cameras and works of battery or wired and home base compatible), C31 (single camera, wired) and S330 (dual camera, wired only). The main difference between e340 and s330 doorbell is how they detect motion, capability in detection and preroll. I will suggest looking at "lifehackster" YouTube channel to see this comparison. Dude is the best resource when it comes to explaining and learning about eufy products. Vast majority are just selling you the product without good analysis. Here is a link of his comparison between the two https://youtu.be/hDK6uZE3ltc?si=oCrvO_kLFBBwuPfk His comparison is the reason I am holding off from switching my ring doorbell because I don't want to compromise on features between the current options and hoping Eufy will release a wired version with all the features similar to what I have on my ring doorbell 2. I do have a lot of Eufy cameras, doorlocks and the homebase 3. Homebase give you an added bonus of AI features from improved recognition to storage options (16gb standalone, and can be increased with a hard drive). I didn't talk too much about the floodlight because the E340 is the best they have, you can also watch a review on the YouTube channel. One thing about Eufy is you need to monitor it routinely, it's not something you get set and forget like ring. There are issues that arise and you have to be patient with them and work through them. I don't recommend Eufy to people who like to set and forget and hope the video will be there when they need it especially if you add the homebase. But if you are tech savvy and check your cameras routinely you will catch issue and be able to address them.

I had the same concern when I was looking for a peephole-style doorbell cam — most of them are either tied to subscriptions or feel way too easy to steal. From what I tested, **Eufy** is still one of the better options for local storage, but yeah, the C31’s mount isn’t exactly theft-proof. You might want to check the **Brinno Duo** or **Remo+ Peephole Cam** — both are designed specifically for apartment-style doors and have replaceable batteries with microSD. If you’re mainly after **no subscription + local storage**, look for “RTSP support” or “local NAS recording” in the specs — that’s usually the hint you need.

Eufy. Free rich notifications, 24x7 recording if you wire it, no subscription, can record to a hub

Eufy or tap. Reolink isn't as good as everyone claims. Ubiquiti but buy in is high

Tapo d130, reolink doorbell (not battery). Eufy c31. If you can't get power to it though you're screwed as battery doesn't do 24x7

[Eufy C31 video doorbell](https://www.eufy.com/products/t8223111?fliter_category=wired-doorbell&variant=44298886676666) This one works well. Either battery or wired. Only the app is needed. No subscription, no joining anything. But it will need an additional SD card for video storage.

I put in a C31 a couple of weeks ago, ditching my older Ring. It does everything it's supposed to. Setting it up right matters a lot. Personally, I want to keep notifications to an absolute minimum, so I set a zone, limit detection types, etc. It was glitchy getting it setup, but I think that's because I was connecting it to a Homebase 3. It connected right away to my wifi. Anyway, no regrets. The C31 is a good choice if you want to use your existing mechanical chime.

I use both **Eufy** and **Tapo**, but Eufy is my preferred ecosystem. # Eufy Recommendations **Outdoors:** * **S4 Solocam** – Best overall. Triple-lens (4K + 2×2K PTZ), solar + battery, and true 24/7 if wired. Quick-swap battery is a huge plus (will outlive any camera with a built-in batter as long as other hardware lasts). * **E42 Solocam PTZ** – 4K PTZ without the extras. Solar + battery + optional wired 24/7. * **S3 Pro** – Great night vision, no PTZ, requires HomeBase, built-in solar, supports wired 24/7. * **E30 Solocam** – 2K budget version of the E42. *(Eufy model numbers repeat—“Solocam” vs. “Floodlight Cam” vs. “Indoor Cam” matters more.)* **Indoors:** Only battery options without built-in solar are **S210 (2C)** which is 1080p and **S220 (2C Pro)** which is 2K. **Doorbells:** * **E340** – Best overall (dual cams + package detection). Can be finicky but still my pick. * **C31** – Battery + wired + 24/7 but no package detection. * **C30** – Skip due to sealed battery. * New dual-cam likely next year, maybe wait if you can. **Get a 3-year warranty** (Amazon/B&H). **Eufy Pros:** Works exceptionally well, when it works. Great hardware, well-designed, durable, strong community. **Eufy Cons:** Firmware hiccups, spotty support, QC issues, weak smart-home integration, AI is hit-or-miss. # Tapo Good cameras but mostly **wired**. Only one 4K battery/solar cam. Snapshot mode when idle. New base station supports large 2.5" drives. **Pros:** Best integrations (Alexa/Google/SmartThings), deep settings (resolution + FPS, UPnP), great automation. **Cons:** Support is worse than Eufy, random connection issues, some cams feel cheap. **Overall:** **Eufy** = best hardware + battery/solar options. **Tapo** = best smart-home integration + automation. \*\*\*summarized using AI. I type a lot :) Good Luck!

Another Eufy owner here, wireless doorbell connected to the hard wired home base to store the videos. Helped me find out some scrote tried to nick my Christmas decoration outside the front door.
