"Plus this only cost €500 ... I don’t think anything beats the Q990D when it comes to that."

"Considering the Q990D only cost me $1,099, I’m really angry with Nakamichi now."

"price difference is just massive ... Sonos is just unjustifiably expensive, even if it is slightly better, at that price it does not matter."

"EDIT - I tried Ready Player One with the rears & it was SICK"

"when I am watching movies it is not constantly rattling my windows, but that is because whoever did the sound for the movie did not want it to do that, but man when they want the base to hit it will rattle my whole house. ... I am 100% satisfied with the base."

"The sound is ridiculous right up to full volume ... 990 is the best quality sound I've ever heard. ... If you are coming from anything other than a sound studio, you hear notes in music you have never heard before, and movies are game changers. ... It has upwards and sidewards facing speakers, so do the rears. ... You hear bullets ping off the walls, and things bounce from the floor to the ceiling. ... Dialogue and bass are perfect and have mine set to 0, so I can't imagine you would have an issue. ... I leave it on adaptive and perfectly happy."

"And the subwoofer is amazing. ... I can’t even turn the volume up much because I’m afraid someone will file a noise complaint (I live in an apartment complex)."

"Q990D is the perfect partner with firestick 4k max 2023, your movies will output dolby atmos."

"Dialogue is leaps ahead on the Samsung for example. ... The dialogue again for example was clearly more clear and louder overall even at the lowest volumes for the Samsung. ... I 100% noticed it was harder to hear dialogue at the majority of volumes compared to the Samsung. ... the Q990D was another step up from my personal experience and opinion."

"significantly better, specifically for dialog."

"With the Q990D voices are incredibly easy to listen to, I don even need voice amplification."

"Now I'm on Samsung S90D and the 990D soundbar with apple tv and 0 issues so far."

"Acutally, this was the decider for me towarfs the q990D. ... I needed the HDMI 2.1 for my xbox and PS."

"I do have q990d and I have my devices - console and PC - connected to the Soundbar, so DTS:x works and I had some weird audio issues when PC was connected to the TV directly (tv is s90D). ... So for me the 4k 120hz support on Soundbar is worth it. ... May save your some potential hassle. ... So I use q990d ports instead, since they are 120hz and they works the best."

"the current sub is beyond terrible, at least to my ears. ... my 80W 10" Vizio subwoofer that is miles better than the Samsung ... The biggest complaint about the Samsung soundbars was always the lack of bass. ... I returned the B and the D due to the poor subwoofer performance. ... The weak sub was always the main problem with these bars."

"It feels like the sub is non-existent. My old system sounds a lot punchier. ... Changing any settings in the app for the sub doesn’t seem to make any difference. Played around with it and nothing really happens in terms of bass. ... the Samsung might as well be considered a standalone system if the sub is so “quiet”."

"Will they fix the subwoofer dropage issues? ... Ended up returning it due to the neverending link problems."

"I can confirm this was the case with both my Q950A and 990D. If you're a frequent music listener, you can run two cheap smart plugs to your rears and set up a scene to enable/disable them. ... what I believe is happening is an adjustment is taking place when the soundbar doesn't see the surrounds -- it's as if there's an additional parametric EQ or virtualized surround feature that is disabled when the surrounds aren't available. Which resulted in a more impactful and more cohesive frequency response when listening to music. ... That was my only real complaint with their 900 series sets. A small settings change in the menu, or even some system-wide awareness that allows switching to a different mode specifically for listening to music -- or even older Dolby 2.1 and stereo channel content from any source. ... but not having solid music playback was a tough pill to swallow."

"The difference is like night and day compared to a Samsung soundbar. ... I have Q990D, and it is nowhere near a budget stereo system."

"I can't understand why Samsung always seems to score highly for music when their soundbars clearly perform poorly in this use case. ... I use my system as a one stop shop with 60 % music, 10% TV and the rest ist Streaming on Netflix etc. For this usecase, the Samsung would be a total disappointment"

Depends on budget. Better clearly exists but Q99d has been $400-1100 in this sub recently which is really good value vs. competitors. Not sure if you were just comparing the soundbar without sub and back speakers. IDK if you can even buy it that way or the cost to compare it vs. bravia bar 8 or anything else similar. On the other end once you hit a certain price point wiring an actual system surpasses the value prospect of soundbar/wireless but if you do want a soundbar or wireless soundbar surround setup with no budget consideration you wouldn't go with Q990D.

For my main TV watching space Q990D or wired system if I have \~$2k+ budget. For a TV in a living space used for stuff other than watching I haven't found Sonos deserves all the hate and might do an arc ultra with a sub and then have 2 era 100s for other rooms that I can pull into a surround sound group when needed.

I don't understand, you bought the best soundbar in that price range and returned. Jbl will not be as good. You should have stuck with 990d and if you really hate the music on it so much, then get something dedicated for music. I am sorry, but I have been reading for a while and 990d/f are the top in that price range

Thanks for the tip. I bought one today using my veteran discount for the same price. I didn’t get the $50 bonus that they promised, but I’m still hoping that will come through.

Moved in to a three level townhouse and no way to hide all the wires. Went with Q990D and love it. And technology has changed. Can’t believe my Onkyo receiver is going for about $40 on FB marketplace 😆

I moved from Q990B To Q990D just yesterday after the 990B just gave in twice . Had to change the motherboard the first time . Other than HDMI 2.1 in 990D , no difference in sound quality between the two . Love this soundbar

Also, at least with the q990d you can adjust the volume of the rears and change it left/right as well. For me in my usual seating position the right rear is a bit closer to me than the left rear so I have the right rear turned down a bit in volume to make it equal to my ears.

I’m have the q990d and it is way thicker than I anticipated. Luckily I was able to push my tv back some. But even with my tv all the way back it barely fit on my tv stand. But if you did put it on your tv stand it would point down which wouldn’t be good. I’m not sure how wide the 800 is but if it’s skinnier you’re probably better off.

I have the Samsung q990d with a 77” c3 and both the soundbar and tv are the best I’ve ever had. I’m blown away by the soundbar daily.

I would recommend the q990d. I have one and it is pretty amazing. Just know it may sound a little flat at first. It calibrates itself to your room. So just give it a couple of days.

I’ve had Sony, lg, and Vizio and recently got a q990d and it blows my other soundbars out of the water. There are definitely better surround sound options out there. But as far as soundbars go it seems it’s either Sonos or Samsung that most people champion. And most reviewers agree.

If you think Spacesuit Sound Pro calibrates it right, then your wrong. I tested the Calibration on my Q990D and the channels were all over the place in volume. Calibrating them myself resulted in a much better sound and overall performance.

I commented on similar posts a while ago. Here is a copy paste Please refer to the Dolby Atmos speaker placing guide, or the ones from the Q990D/F manual. Next, you wanna calibrate the channels so that from the seating position, every speaker outputs the same volume. This varies from setup to setup, so you have to do it yourself. if your on an iPhone (there might be similar apps on Android), download the NIOSH App, place the phone with the microphone upwards on the seating position at ear level and get all channels to the same volume, as your main speakers on the bar. You can use a Dolby Atmos Channel Test sound file, which is somewhere in this sub. You have to make sure, that the bar gets fed with the Atmos audio signal, otherwise it won’t work. Then you should be good to go :)
