r/homeofficeNeed help choosing a standing desk - budget $400-500, feeling overwhelmed
about 1 month ago

I have a flexispot e5 base that I attached to a 78x24 IKEA desktop I already had. Paid about $150 for the e5 base on sale. I'm about 5'11'' and have 2 x 27in monitors, my laptop on a stand and various other odds and ends. I've had it for over a year and am still very happy. The desk adjusts nearly silently and has practically no wobble at my standing height and 0 wobble at sitting. There is no side to side wobble at standing height. If I bump it really hard there is some very slight front to back, but I think I notice it more because of my monitor stands and not the desk. It never feels unstable. I've only had it for a year, so I can't speed to super long term longevity, but at about 1 year out I can't tell any difference between day 1 vs today when it adjusts. I've been very happy with my setup, no regrets

r/StandingDeskNew to standing desks — Flexispot vs Uplift? Also: cheap top now or solid wood from the start?

I have 2 Flexispot (E8 with a 48x30 top & E5 with a 55x28 top). Both are Flexispot’s white chipboard top and no issues so far. E8 - dual motors. Got it 3yrs ago and it still works without issue. I moved a month ago so had to disconnect it and take tie legs off. Reassembled everything, no issues. Love it. E5 - single motor. Got it a month ago and no issues so far. They don’t make the E8 anymore and since the second desk won’t be the primary desk, I went a little cheaper and got the E5. One of the things I look for when picking a desk is the position of the legs are in relation to the feet. I like them at the center of the feet (unlike the E7 Pro). Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like it reduces the shaking when the desk is raised.

I have the Flexispot EQ5. The desk and the bamboo top are good value for money, I just rarely use the standing function… 🤷🏼‍♂️

I'd go for the Flexispot. Standing from time to time helps release the tension on my back.

Both. Go with the ikea setup in slide 1 and then just get the frame only from flexispot and put it underneath the karlby ikea top. That’s what I did at least

Build your own. Get a flexispot E5 and then get a butcher block counter, or just get one of their options (up to 78x30) I have a 74x40 butcher block desk with this combo. They are dual motor and have a 280lb capacity, as well as memory presets.

Xmas 2022 I spent £199.99 (after a £100 coupon) on a flexispot standing desk (single frame EQ5) and attached it to an Ikea worktop I’ve had for years. Worked great, I don’t stand it up or sit it down much but it all still works just fine

r/StandingDeskIs a standing computer table worth it?

I'm a graphic designer and can be on the computer for long sessions to meet deadlines. I recently started working from home and my chair and desk were ok but not great and I was having a ton of back pain. I did a lot of research on standing desks. Yes. If you are at your computer for long hours and you get the right desk and don't try to go cheap on it, a good standing desk is totally worth it! I wasn't sure I would like standing up and working. I didn't think it would be comfortable to stand and draw on a tablet or do photo retouching in that position, but I am glad I got a standing desk because I actually do enjoy standing and working. The relief it gives your back is definitely noticeable. I will say that I think if you are serious about it you have to be willing to invest in a sturdy solid four leg desk. Research your options. I am totally pleased with my Flexi Spot E7 plus. The desk was around $650 with a rubberwood top - but their chipboard with laminate tops cost less and are good as well. So you could probably get the price down to around $550ish. The E7 plus is sturdy, well made, and the wood top is gorgeous.( I got the dark espresso rubberwood top.) The frame is very heavy but it makes the desk super stable These desks are heavy and assembly can be... challenging but I did it on my own and it worked out just fine. Thing is if you order a two leg and then realize you should have sprung for the more stable four leg one then you'll have to contact them, explain the issue you have, go through a refund process and then disassemble it and ship it back. So it's best to really do your research. I invested another $100 bucks or so for some extras like cable management and an under desk CPU holder that moves with the desk. Oh and I also got a small 3/4 " thick kitchen mat for about 20 bucks for when I'm standing. (Like the ones the chefs and kitchen staff use when standing all day prepping food.) I love it. I will stand when my back and legs start to hurt after sitting for a few hours. Prior to having it I was forced to sit the whole time and it was wreaking havoc on my lower back. I would wake up in pain the next day when constantly sitting. But now with just one or two standing sessions in an eight hour day, I don't have that pain anymore. I tend to stand for about an hour the most and then return to sitting but even a fifteen minute break for your spine is great and I'm sure you would feel the difference. I'm older so a comfortable work desk is a necessity for me. If you are younger, I still encourage you to invest in one now to prevent back issues later. Especially if you shrimp 🦐 over the desk when gaming or working. I get that it is a big chunk of change to drop for a desk but if you are sitting at the computer for long periods and especially if you are working from home it's well worth the investment in my opinion. I would have to say wherever you get a desk from - you should avoid the two leg style models. I got a second mid-range priced two leg E5 desk from FlexiSpot for my craft area to try to save some money and I regret it. I am now trying to return it and upgrade it to another E7 plus with four legs because the wobble is pretty severe and it disrupts my workflow. Do you have a good chair? Hate to add to the cost but a good chair is also important if you are on the computer a lot. I sprung for a Hon ignition chair I had been watching on Amazon for a while when the prices dropped near Christmas. Got it for about $350 and now it's up to $500 again. It has also helped so much. Chairs are tricky though because you really have to try them out first to see if it fits your body shape and needs. So if you can try some out IRL that's the best way to get one. We had HON chairs at work that I liked so it made my decision easier. Best of luck on your search. Also, there's a FlexiSpot reddit and one of the guys on there can help you get a discount code. Though they almost always seem to be having flash sales on their website anyway.
