r/AskRunningShoeGeeks45k trail race coming up, is nike pegasus trail 5 a good choice?

I’m a certified Nike hater so I’d say there are a thousand better options. The adidas speed ultra is comfortable and speedy but a bit unstable. I recently get the speed ultra 2 and it’s been great. I’ve always ran in hoka Speedgoats which are super cozy but I was running slow. As I’ve sped up, I have switched to the ultra speed.

The do feel stable and very responsive, they really roll you forward. I haven’t had them long but I’m a big fan so far.

I tried going a size up and just couldn't get the fit right.. 300km in these shoes now and hate them. I'm really finding that true to size works well with a cushioned moisture wicking sock, as long as the shoe allows me to splay my toes and feel snug in the heel. What you say rough sides, are you meaning fabric and stitching etc? The past 12months of trails I've been experimenting with: Adidas Agravic Ultra Salomon s/lab Ultra Salomon Ultra Glide 2 (sized up) Merrell Agility Peak 5 Hoka Speedgoat 6

Thanks for your recommendation and congrats on your race! not sure what REI is (I'm in Australia).what combo did you go with? I have been experimenting and don't mind an excuse to spend money :D I'm quite experienced running..(10 years with a decent marathon time) and don't have this problem with road shoes. The past 12months of trails I've been experimenting with: Adidas Agravic Ultra Salomon s/lab Ultra Salomon Ultra Glide 2 (sized up) Merrell Agility Peak 5 Hoka Speedgoat 6 Sock wise, experimented too and find cushioned, moisture wicking best, morino wool good too.

11 Road: - Saucony Endorfine Speed 3 (retired) - Adidas Takumi Sen 8 (intervals, ~5k races) - 2x Adidas Evo SL (daily trainer, 3rd pair ready to go) - Adidas Pro 4 (just used for a HM) - ASICS Superblast 2 (used for long runs, ultras, dislike) - Brooks Adrenaline 22 (retired, just for hikes) Trail: - Saucony Peregrine 13 (stiff, only when muddy) - Hoka Speedgoat 5 (have miles left, but Zegama are infinitely more comfortable - sort of retired) - Nike Zegama 2 (daily trail trainer / trail ultras, new pair ready to go) - Adidas Agravic Speed ultra (short trail races, gives me heel blisters)

r/ultrarunningShopping for a new pair of shoes to train in/run my first 100 miler in August. Are the carbon plated trail shoes worth it for said distance?

Adidas Agravic speed ultra’s got that supershoe magic. Did a 100miler in them last year and worked wonders even in the end (the pronounced rocker really pushed you to run). Note that they will not work for too technical courses and require a mid/forefoot stride.

For trail use i find my adidas terrex speed ultras still have speed in them after 700k. Kjerag 2 should also last long, but im not at high mileage yet. not high stack though, so a different sensation.

I would try out: North Face Vectiv Enduris Has a nylon plate and gets great reviews. $160 Otherwise you can try more expensive… North Face Vectiv Pro Adidas Agravic Speed Ultra I have the Pro and the Ultra. Like them both. I plan to try the Enduris as I know a lot of people who love it

If you enjoy the S/Lab Genesis from your list the best fit will be either the NNormal Kjerag or the Satisfy Rocker. Both are fast shoes. Norda has higher volume, 001 has heel issues, 005 is a very fast shoe but higher volume and 002 is stack than the Genesis but doesn't feel as fast. NNormal Tomir has a higher volume mid foot Adidas Agravic Speed Ultra probably the fastest shoe on the list but very unstable and the heel is problem for a lot of people. Hoka Tecton X2 would be a fast shoe but has been been produced in over 2 years. Will be hard to find but if you can find one slightly used and or half off it will be worth the money. Asics MetaFuji trail doesn't feel fast in my opinion.

Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra 2. Super fun. Super fast. I put 500km+ on the originals in every type of trail imaginable. The 2’s are even better.

It's a fun shoe, but not very stable. The next ultra 2 comes out next year and looks a little better on that front. I also enjoy my La Sportiva Prodigio Pros, super fun bouncy ride, and a bit more stable on the trail.

Got those on sale as well but they've been giving me some pretty gnarly blisters on the inside of both feet!
