Adidas - Terrex Agravic Speed

Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra. Super fast. ETA: the non ultra version is also fast, lower stack height and no plate.

I change it up between Nike Zegama 2, Speedgoat 5, and Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed & Speed Ultra. Always rocking my Salomon Adv Skin 5 pack and Carbon Z poles.

How technical is the trail? I have the Agravic Speed and the energy return feels great to me, but they are not super stable for technical terrain and I hear the Ultra is even less so. I recently did a 28km trail race and used the Agravic 3 and they felt perfect for that terrain. Between the two you're looking at I think the Speed is a better bet but you're ideally going to be running fast and on the forefoot since that's where it feels best.

I'm not sure how much I would trust either of those shoes with mud given that the lugs are pretty small but otherwise I think the Speed will suit well - especially given that there's a lot of asphalt and gravel. I run a lot of rocky mountain trail which is why I find myself running more in Agravic 3. In terms of energy return, when I'm running on asphalt the Agravic speed feel pretty similar to Evo SL, which I suppose makes sense given they both use lightstrike pro. The return is definitely better than the other shoes in my rotation currently - mostly New Balance (SC Trainer and 1080 v13) on road and Saucony Peregrine for trail.

Good advice, about exactly what I did recently! I use Adios Pro 3’s as super trainers and got the Terrex Agravic Speeds… used them throughout Santa Cruz area and they worked great.

They do run slightly large, I went down a 1/2 size and they fit perfect. I’ve used them on road to trail and really happy with them.

I had the Agravic speed, I did about 200km in it, I enjoyed them very initially, but it’s pretty hopeless in mud, and the upper over the toes lets lots of debris in. Also the fabric on the heel wears out quite quick and exposes the stitching which then gave me blisters (and ruined a pair of socks) I wasn’t getting heel either. There are much better trail shoe options in my opinion.

I did most of the Dragon's Back in the Terrex Agravic Speed and had serious blisters between my big toe and the next toe, on both feet. And I have narrow feet. So I think they're probably not for you.

How long are the lugs? These could be my perfect shoe.

I’ve recently bought Agravic Speeds and already tested it on 33km mountain run. Besides more technical downhill parts with a lot of fist size loose rocks, it felt super fun, light and fast. Additionally I feel like breathability of these in the summer is extremely nice. Obviously this is not the most cushioned option you can get, but up to 50km it should be still fine. When it comes to grip, I didn’t have a chance to test it on a mud but I felt quite safe and stable especially on a dirt - even on very steep downhills. So if there are some parts where you can pick up the pace and there is not much technical terrain these are very nice.

For the context - I don’t run trails daily. I’m a road runner who enjoys driving to the mountains every 2nd or 3rd weekend for a longer trail run. Currently I’m using Adidas Agravic Speed and these are perfectly fine for me for trails up to 30km. However I’m looking for something more versatile that can handle more technical terrain as well as faster parts, are durable and would be comfortable for distances like 40-60km or even above. I’ve heard about Norda 001s which seem to be like SB2s of trail running, but these are too expensive for me. For a longer time I’ve been thinking about Nnormal Tomir 2 or Salomon Genesis (as these seems to be common and versatile choice for ultra running). What are your thoughts on these 2 or maybe you’d have some other recommendations?

I don’t claim Agravic speeds are not versatile. I love these but during over 30km runs I feel like I’d enjoy something a bit more supportive.

Big fan of MTC shoes and just got this ordered based on all the positive reviews, especially by Mike at Humble Running. I really like the Salomon AG3 Gravel (and some others like the Terrex Agravic Speed and Deviate Nitro Elite Trail) for the weekly long 15~17 mile road-to-trail excursions, but the H1 seems irresistible.

My split between the road and trail is 65/35 based on the mileage I have on various road and trail shoes. I never run on dirt/gravel or the trails with my road shoes and limit the tarmac as much as possible with my trail shoes. The MTC H1 is the first shoe that I can take on both road and trail (although nothing technical) and feel and ride great on. I also have the Salomon AG3 Gravel but I find that it’s too tipsy for the trails. On the road, it’s like an excellent lightweight daily trainer with very good energy return that keeps me going. On the trail, I wasn’t too confident initially about the grip of the 2mm lugs but, eventually, I found it to be grippy and able to handle most terrains on the trails very well. The cushion and the bounce of the H1 are better than all other MTC shoes I have. I’m very impressed. Stability is fine on both road and trail. Very happy with this and suits my road-to-trail excursions better than any other shoe for such purposes. Besides the Salomon AG3 Grvl, I had been using the Terrex Agravic Speed Ultra, Agravic Speed, and Puma Deviate Nitro Elite Trail when I want to cover both road and trail on a long run.

And here's the latest updated trail collection. Trail running takes up around 40% of my mileage so there's an appropriate number of trail shoes compared to the road shoes. Like with the road shoes, pretty happy and feeling set with these for now and through most of 2026. The only trail shoes coming next year, so far, that I have some mild interest in is the Brooks Cascadia Elite, but it could be redundant when compared to shoes like the Tecton X 3 and Cloudultra Pro. The trail shoes that are getting the most mileage lately are the Cloudultra Pro, Prodigio Pro, MTC H1 & T1, and Enduris 4. I have over 200 miles each on two pairs of Tecton X 3, so backing off those for a while. Ditto for the Speed Ultra and Vectiv Pro 2, which I also have two pairs of each and with around 150 miles on each pair. Really enjoying the MTC H1 for the road-to-trail excursions (13\~15 miles) which I like to go on every Sunday. The Agravic Speed and Puma DNE Trail are two other shoes I use for road-to-trail, but the H1 just feel and ride better for the road and flatter trail terrains. Terrex Agravic Speeds are actually excellent tempo trail shoes and run really well on road too. I use them for tempo and hill repeat sessions. Only downside, I can't use them for long distances (Ultras) cuz blisters.

Terrex Agravic Speeds can be found pretty cheap, actually works well as a tempo shoe.

Agravic Speeds are also good hybrids - only they are very narrow and suck if you pronate.

Adidas will be too narrow for sure. Metafuji gets poor reviews, unstable. If Hoka works for you why not try the Tecton X3? It's supposed to be more relaxed in fit than the SG6.

Peg trail 5 runs well on both surfaces. Nike and Salomon fit quite similarly. I would recommend the Agravic speeds, but the fit is horrible - it's very narrow.

Have to hard disagree on this. I find the Agravic Speed more of a tempo trail shoe good for short and fast runs with nice bounce and rocker, but it's limited in grip (2.5 mm lugs!), protection (no rockplate, thin soft foam), and fit (unpadded upper). My feet get seriously beat up in these shoes with stone hits. Are you sure you don't mean the Agravic Speed Ultra or the Agravic 3? More versatile in this case would mean an all-mountain shoe - one that can handle a variety of distances and terrain in comfort. So Prodigio Pro is probably a spot-on recommendation.

Not sure I trust the official specs - I measure them at 2mm at the center and 3mm for the outside lugs, but whatever, in practice I find the actual traction pretty good. Protection is only bad under the big toe for me actually. I think the main problem for long distances is it's not a shoe you can relax in. It needs concentration and it also wants to go fast all the time. Version 2 of this shoe has the potential to be amazing if they tweak it a bit.

Serious problems with that floppy heel. It just doesn't contain my foot on downhills. I would wait and see if the Speed 2 has fixed this.

Upper is quite flimsy and doesn't hold your foot well on technical downhills - you can feel your foot fighting the upper. Also no heel counter. I had the Rift too, also a poor upper and lockdown, but the shoe is more stable although I don't like how the outsole is curved upwards on the sides. But underfoot experience - bounce and rocker is nicer than the Agravic Speeds. A shoe I recommend checking out is the Prodigio Pro, as it somehow has excellent lockdown, bounce, stability all at once. It's probably overkill/costly as a training shoe though and I would pair it with something cheaper like Kigers or Peregrines or regular Prodigio.

I just gave the Agravic Speeds another run to test them again. Definitely feels very minimal compared to the Rift on step in. There is just not enough foam here to be considered bouncy overall. My feet get quite beat up in these shoes. Also you need to run fast for this shoe to work. When you slow down and you strike further back they just don't work. So for that reason they are definitely not a daily trainer not a long distance shoe. I needed to be on my toes and constantly using my posterior chain to make these shoes work. So they are more a tempo trail shoe and more comparable to shoes like the Salomon Pulsar than the Rifts.

Aero Glide/Blaze 3 GRVL perfect for this. I would lean towards the Blaze since they are firmer and you can find them super cheap right now. Take the Glide if you want to use them for >50% road vs. trail. Adidas Terrex Speed would also work for this, but it's a faster tempo type shoe and works best at speed with a mid to forefoot strike. All 3 of these shoes I would go 1/2 size down as they run long. Sizing down also helps makes them narrower.

Non ultra version is my shorter race trail shoe

I run in normal non-spiked running shoes. Currently I have Adidas Terrex Agravic Speed when I need more grip. And slow down if I feel I might slip. There are better, watweproof and whatnot running shoes out there, but for me personally they're a bit of an overkill as roads and even trails are usually pretty well cleaned where I live.
