deeplevitation 1.0I bought the speedgoat 6’s because of that short tongue and I love them dearly. I’ve got very tall feet and that little tongue allows my foot the space. It’s the most solid feeling platform of any shoe I’ve worn to date.
If they’ve remedied the durability issues from the SG6 than I’m in. I actually love the SG6 in terms of feel and the shirt tongue (I know lots of people don’t) that platform of the shoe is the best I’ve ever run on. Just so stable and feels so fast.
Same, except my toe box literally disintegrated after about 200 miles. I’m running 8-15 at a clip in the mountains on lots of rocky and tough terrain, so maybe I expected too much of them, but clearly lots of others have had similar durability issues. If you look at the 5th picture here - view from the behind the heels - you can the platform I’m talking about. There is something about how it positions the foot (upright and slightly inward) and then provides a wide and solid forefoot platform that is built up around the outside of the foot that just works. It reminds me of how Nike designed the infamous Kobe low tops and how most basketball players adapted to this and still use that style.

Middle-Olive933 1.0Honestly I don't get the hate. First Speedgoats for me and after about 50 miles the whole shoe has softened and moulded to my foot like a glove. I always go wide in Hoka without a doubt, if makes a world of difference. Great traction, fit and cushion for me. The upper feels durable although not the most breathable upper I've had. Seems like a solid shoe for me which suits my road to trail antics. Haven't tried running anything over half marathon distance in them though, so not sure how they'd do on an ultra.
As someone who runs in Speedgoat 6s, is if you do get them, get the wide version. Even if you think you don't have wide feet. I never used to be a wide in Hokas and then when they changed fitting and style in the year of the Clifton 7, I've had to go wide ever since for them to be comfortable. My only gripe with the SG6 is the lockdown is a bit meh which caused me a bruised toe recently on a long fast descent during a race. They start to feel a bit firm under foot on longer distances to me. I mainly use them for trail training runs and anything upto a trail half marathon.

Particular_Toe236 1.0I've had them since September and they are amazing to me. I think the criticism comes from people whose foot doesn't fit correctly. My foot works perfectly with them and they are super comfortable. The sole resists very well after a lot of technical terrain, and even though I have had to use them on some asphalt at times, they continue very well. In general they are worth it, give them a chance and they will surprise you.
