"I do not wesr the 001 or the 003, the upper design for those 2 models is the same, and it pulls on my achilles ... I have a very touchy achilles on my left leg. I do strength, and work closely with my physio to offset it, but it has been a lingering issue for a long time. I wear my laces loose, and shoes that don't place pressure on the heel cup."

Just picked up the Norda 001A. Quality, Quality, Quality. All I can say Altra foam dies out super quick and so do their Max Trac lugs on the Lone Peak. I'm at the point where I'm willing to pay a higher price for quality shoes when it comes to my feet. I mean, we're running right. Short distance or Ultra Marathons, TAKE CARE OF OUR FEET! and treat them to something nice. My 2 cents. Have a nice run!!

My Norda 001 show no wear at 150 miles of running on rocks in the Southwest. You can say they were expensive but looking at them next to my Speedgoats it's obvious they will last for three of those, making them a bargain. Also, I got them on archive sale, so there's that.

I love the 5s and bought many pairs. I'm not heavy and barely got 300 miles on them in Southern California on our harder dirt and rock trails. I bit the bullet and bought some Norda 001s this year and the wear difference is astounding. Where the SG5s are already showing a lot of stress at 150-200 miles the Nordas look brand new. It's not hyperbole to say I may get 2.5-3x an SG5 out of one pair of the Nordas which evens out the price.

Toe box/forefoot is roomy. I have a large bunion that fit fine after dyneema break in. They look like they'll last forever. Comparing my 001s to SG5s at the same mileage is startling. The foam on the 001a is tempting for longer days but I have a lot of miles left on the originals.

I’ve ran over 4000 in the 001 model across four pairs. They don’t need a break in period imo, I’ve raced an ultra in an almost brand new pair. What comes with time is however a more precise fit from dialing in your lacing. My biggest gripes with the 001 are that they retain too much water (but I’ve still been running in them in a very rainy city) and that only some color ways of the 001 has a stitched sidewall (which I recommend). At this point there’s been so many questions about Nordas on this and similar subs, so look up other threads and see for yourself. Norda doesn’t do any updates on their shoes, so older threads are still relevant.

r/trailrunningNorda for winter road running?

There’s probably a lot of 001s on sale at the moment as they just updated the shoe with the 001A. I’ve run a fair bit in them in winter with no issue, albeit on trail. If you go for shoes with spikes keep in mind that not only does it suck to run with them on asphalt without snow, but is also wears them down super fast. I often use micro spikes, but the texture and depth of snow plays a role here. I have used Chainsen a lot. Don’t buy micro spikes where the spikes are just plastic casings with a small spike that are pushed into a rubber sole, I see them all over the mountains come springtime as they tend to pop off if you apply too much pressure.

I am 6' and 220lb, I've had good luck with the Salomon S/Lab Genesis previously and currently the Norda 001. The 001 took a bit of time to break in though, not the fit that was great, but the under foot feel really came to life after the first 100km and I'm loving them.

Same. The Stealth Black 001 is such a low-key looking, amazing shoe. I can wear it anywhere, long or short trail runs, it is comfortable doing a 10k on the road or hiking a peak. I have 350km (only tracking running) on mine so far, no wear in the tread yet and the midsole feels like it's getting better and better, not breaking down.

r/onebagUnlimited budget, do everything, waterproof black shoes
5 months ago

For my foot with those exact specifications, Norda 001 G+ Stealth. Except I wouldn't buy a waterproof shoe because they make my feet too warm and they take too long to dry when they inevitably get wet anyway. So my real answer for me personally is the Norda 001 Stealth. But for you? The black shoe that fits your foot properly. Maybe that's Nike, or Adidas, or Altra, or Brooks. Maybe it's the Norda. But all feet are not equal, and all shoes are not the same. Go to a store and try them on.

r/onebagWhat is your one shoe to rule them all?

It's a shoe. If your feet fit it and your personal sense of style agrees with it, it can be a one shoe. Some people do it in Blundstones or Docs, Nike or Adidas, road or trail shoes. There are a million threads on this, including recommendations for the very shoe you are asking about. But the only legitimate answer *for you* is to pick the shoe you can walk in all day, is comfortable to your specific foot and hopefully fits somewhat to your look. Go to a store and try on as many shoes as they have that are remotely close. Look up the ones you like the fit of if maybe the colour can be better. My personal one shoe at the moment is the Norda 001 in Stealth, it's my daily trail runner I run in here at home too.

Kjerag Brut has 6mm lugs and midsole is supercritical EVA. Very nice on muddy downhill, the toebox is not narrow but not as wide as Altra/Topo. You need to get 1/2 size down from your normal size. Also Norda just released 001A with TPEE foam and 5mm lugs.

Tough to make a recommendation without a general idea of foot shape and use. I'll give my experience to help out either way and you can message me with any other questions. I am on the taller and heavier side(6'4& 92KG/202 pounds) and also have a slightly wider midfoot. Both the Norda 001A and 005 I have accommodate my wider foot and are amazing shoes. I tried to get Nnormal and La Sportiva on and found them too narrow. Topo also fit well, but upper on the ones i tried were more sloppy. These weren't the higher end Topo, full disclosure. The Norda 005 feels quite a bit more plush than the 001A. I love almost everything about it, light, responsive, grippy outsole, but the upper does have a bit of give to it I found. This can lead to my foot sliding around a little bit on steep descents. For everything but steep descent, the 005 hits the sweet spot and I would say it could only be an issue doing so at high speeds on shorter races. At slower speeds, I didn't find it to be an issue. The 001A seems to hug and hold the foot a bit more than the 005 and also has a more grippy and pronounced outsole. I prefer it for steeper climbs and descents, but the 005 for everything else. Both the uppers are fairly air tight and not the most breathable. This is good for keeping debris out and being very durable, but something to consider with hot feet. I also have the Adidas Agravic Terrex Trail and Ultra. The upper on both is very breathable, lockdown is good, but they can easily let debris in. The trail feels amazing in general trails, good in most terrain. Grip isn't as good as Norda, but better in hotter temperatures if you have hot feet. The trail version doesn’t feel propulsive or soft underfoot. The Ultra on the other hand feels a bit more plush under foot and more propulsive. It has an aggressive rocker to it and wouldn't feel good if you strike on the heel. Fit wise, the Trail and Ultra are both close, but I found the Ultra fit ever so slightly larger, but could be sample variance. If I had to pick one as a do it all, it would likely be the Norda 005. Light on the feet, good outsole, saves the legs and good on a variety of terrain. Norda has absolutely amazing customer support as well. I have had other trail shoes as well, but none on your list. If you want any other information, let me know!

I have the Norda 001A and 005, I also have wider feet. I like both, biggest gripe is breathability. Let me know what else you want to know or see! There company support is incredible as well.

I think the choice would depend on use case and a bit of personal preference. The 005 are noticeably lighter on the feet, have a much softer heel cup and feel quite a bit softer underfoot. They still have a neutral rocker, so it doesn't feel like they are pushing you forward, but the bounciness does make them feel more prepared to pick up the pace. The lockdown on the 005 feels pretty good at most speed and most terrain. However, I do find that I get some forefoot movement on steep and fast descents with the 005. What I think I can attribute this to is the Dyneema upper in the 005 being a looser weave(probably to save weight). I feel like I have a good lockdown, but I can feel the upper stretch just enough to allow my foot to start sliding around. Unfortunately, that lighter weave still doesn't translate to a breathable upper, but it does keep debris out. Lastly. it's worth mentioning that my feet seem to run slightly warm and when they get warm, the moisture from the sweat also contributes to foot slide. The 001A(for me at least) is that shoe I put on and get amazing lockdown. It hugs my feet just the right amount. The tighter weave of the upper means less stretch and better lockdown in the steep stuff and when I am going down at speed. This does also mean I would classify it as a "hot" shoe, I just accept the fact my feet will be warm. The midsole doesn't have that plushness like the 005, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing for a lot of terrain. The midsole also has better protection on the foam for rocks, branches, anything else you might run across in the back country. Lastly, the outsole is more aggressive. I wouldn't say it's superior to the Megagrip elite in the 005, they just serve different purposes, with the 001A likely working better in wet and muddy conditions. If I was in anything less than 20% grade, for me the 005 is an easy choice. The issues I would get with it are negligible in this use case, but I get the benefits of a lighter, comfier and ultimately faster shoe. If I were in a steep and technical race, where I will be doing long descents and may need that grippier outsole, the 001A is an amazing choice. I would say the 001A is ever so slightly more stable, only because the foam is less compressive. I don't have stability issues personally, so that is a non factor. I have the benefit of living near easy trails running along a river bottom, or going a little over an hour away and having the terrain of my choice in the mountains. Both perform well on easier trails, or harder, but I would tend towards one or the other if I was in that terrain for a long period of time. Any other specific input you want, let me know.

norda, especially the g+ models if you want them to be a bit better in the cold. I have friends who hiked through the length of New Zealand in complete autonomy with two pairs. Durability can’t be beat, they are super comfortable and extremely light.
