"very flexible shoe (despite the stack), which means that when I flex my foot (on landing or uphill or at toe off), the shoe flexes with it and my heel does not “fight” the shoe and thus there is no pressure on the heel bump"
"I find them comfortable."
"I have flat wide feet, and I love the Solomon Ultra Glide Wides. ... They’re pretty dang good for flat wide feet."

"Salomon ultra glide is the only shoe I've worn i could be happy in anywhere. ... 100 mile race, sure; class 3-4 high Alpine scramblefest, why not; long road to trail runs, still fun."
"they are great for what I need. 162 miles on mixed surface, including significant part of paved surface."
"i haven’t seen any issues on the technical rocky parts, neither uphill nor steep downhills."

"a great balance of feel vs cushion"
"My second reason was to have something very cushioned, as I'm a runner commuter, so about 50 miles a week need some relief."

"I do have all three of the Salomons I mentioned, but also have and like the Merrell Long Sky 2 and their Agility Peak, which I'm wearing more these days because they have a wider toe box."

What I don't get about Salomon: the ultra glide 3 is a totally different shoe. Fine for me, but don't call it the 3 then, name it differently. This is confusing. Now I need to go searching again after a model that resembles the glide 2. (I did buy two additional pairs of the 2 so I'm set for this year)
r/trailrunning • Why are so many trail shoes now high stack + high drop? ->I love the ultra glides 2 as well. (I have 6 pairs) I am disappointed that they needed to completely change a shoe again. I have put 50k on the glide 3 right now, fit is similar, but much more cushioning (almost absurd), and the sole pattern is very different, better in mud but worse on wet rocks. I will mix them in use together with the 2. I use the 3 for recovery runs or longer runs on tired legs and feet. But I don't see myself using them as my go to performance shoe for ultra runs. (For now)
r/trailrunning • Salomon Ultra Glide 3 ->My Ultra glide 3 just arrived. From Germany, (alpinetreck) as on Salomon UK, all most popular sizes are gone. I look again on your first post pictures and curious, where did you found them in black. I've chosen gray as there were only 3 colours available.
r/trailrunning • The news Salomon Ultra Glide 3 !am I late ? I was aware and I have tried the Salomon SLAB Ultra Glide, but it's the first time I'm seeing the 3s 😳 ->Hi, they are great for what I need. 162 miles on mixed surface, including significant part of paved surface. r/trailrunning • The news Salomon Ultra Glide 3 !am I late ? I was aware and I have tried the Salomon SLAB Ultra Glide, but it's the first time I'm seeing the 3s 😳 ->If anyone is interested, the real weight of the UK size 11 is 334 g each vs 285g on Salomon webpage.
r/trailrunning • The news Salomon Ultra Glide 3 !am I late ? I was aware and I have tried the Salomon SLAB Ultra Glide, but it's the first time I'm seeing the 3s 😳 ->I have Salomon ultra glide 3. They are very cushioned, but not sure if they are suitable for the Alps. My goal was to find shoes for mixed terrain — trial and asphalt.
r/trailrunning • Trailrunning shoe that is stable and soft ->I bought them for my usual mixed surface runs, trail and asphalt. After around 170 miles, outsoles seems to be barely worn. I even published some pictures somewhere on Reddit some time ago. That was a very good choice for my needs.
r/trailrunning • Salomon Ultra Glide 3 ->Yeah... My second reason was to have something very cushioned, as I'm a runner commuter, so about 50 miles a week need some relief. I used them in one batch on early spring holiday and there were fine. I'm little worry now, on summer they could be too warm. But I can take only one pair of shoes on holiday.
r/trailrunning • Salomon Ultra Glide 3 ->Not yet. I'm on holiday, ready to go for a run, but it's rainy so far and bit chill. ;)
r/trailrunning • Salomon Ultra Glide 3 ->Salomon Ultra Glide 3 They are quite resisted to worn on asphalts.
r/AskRunningShoeGeeks • 1 pair for travel that covers road running and hiking trails: what should I buy? ->I would look out for a "gravel" shoe. Salomon Ultra Glide3 Gravel or one of the Craft Gravel Shoes
->be careful with UG3. if your footwork gets sloppy(tired/lost focus) on cambered or rocky trail descent, it can deal ankle roll damage. i rolled twice already. i still like the shoe, but on mentioned above terrain, i need poles 💀
r/trailrunning • Versatile trail running shoes ->Fellow Haglund sufferer here. I have it on both heels, I ran long trainings and recent ultra in these shoes and it seems to do the trick: - VJ Ultra 3: I have half a size bigger so that my heel can move freely, it has great lockdown in the midfoot, which means that the heel can be looser and I still feel locked down - Salomon Ultra Glide 3: stiff heel counter but well padded and very flexible shoe (despite the stack), which means that when I flex my foot (on landing or uphill or at toe off), the shoe flexes with it and my heel does not “fight” the shoe and thus there is no pressure on the heel bump Generally I find that the more flexible shoe the better and as soon as the padding is there and protects the heel collar from my bump, it is OK. E.g. Prodigio Pro is flexible, the collar is not overly stiff but the padding is at the top and does not protect my bump from irritation.
r/trailrunning • Can anyone recommend vibram soled, cushioned, wide toe box, soft heel counter trail shoes ->Peregrine or Salomon genesis (non slab) and ultra glide 3 (non slab) are often discounted and are a good option for what you are describing. I would recommend against the pulsar slab and the la sportiva. They look cool but they are racing shoes which won't hold up very well and won't be comfortable or stable on easy runq
r/trailrunning • I’ve been running in the mountain for over a month and my shoes are getting destroyed what should I get ? ->I ran KWU Nite a few weeks back in Salomon Ultra Glide 3, and I found them very good. Conditions were horrible, very muddy, lots of rain. I assume Arc would be similar enough terrain. Just keep in mind I'm brand new to trail running, so I'm not sure how Ultra Glides compare to other options mentioned here.
r/Ultramarathon • Arc of Attrition Shoes ->It's getting really frustrating. The Salomon ultra glide 3 added about a centimeter of stack and made them way wider. It's not even the same type of shoe anymore. It went from medium cushioned to absolute max cushion. And that's the same pretty much everywhere. And if they aren't max cushioned, well then they'll get some kind of plate to that removes ground feel to try and make it a super shoe. I'm having a really hard time finding any shoes I actually want to buy. Just give me good grip and a simple low stack shoe. No fancy plates or matryx upper that gets too warm in any temperature above 10c. Just a basic shoe that can feel the ground
r/trailrunning • Why are so many trail shoes now high stack + high drop? ->Yeah I returned my ultra glide 3 after trying them on at home for a bit. They run completely differently. Aren't that rockered anymore. Just a completely different shoe. It seems nice. But not at all what I wanted. It's so frustrating when they have to ride the old name but change everything about it instead of just making a new line The north face altamesa look a bit similar to the ultra glide 2.
r/trailrunning • Why are so many trail shoes now high stack + high drop? ->No that's not at all what I'm looking for. Just lower stack but really good grip that can move quickly on rocks. That's not barefoot
r/trailrunning • Why are so many trail shoes now high stack + high drop? ->I’ve been using Salomon Slab Ultra 3s and Hoka Speedgoat 5s for my main shoes for couple years. I needed some alternatives for Speedgoats as the 6th edition didn’t feel as comfy as 5s, so I decided to try Glide 3. My first impressions weren’t anything special. The shoes felt a bit dead. After maybe 70+kms they’ve started to feel much better, more responsive, and currently I use them for more relaxed runs (”do whatever runs”). I find them comfortable. Still rather opt for Slab Ultra3/Genesis when I know I’m gonna have a long haul on trails.
r/trailrunning • Salomon Ultra Glide 3 ->With UG3’s I haven’t had this issue. I do have a slight overpronation but tend to seek neutral shoes (came to this conclusion with PT) as I usually get problems with shoes with strong pronation support. This is indeed an issue with Hoka SG6’s if I tighten them too much. It’s pretty much arch pain or blisters with SG6’s. For me both shoes are good for medium distances (30>km). Unlike Hoka SG5’s I wouldn’t rely on either of these when going long; that’s Ultra3/Genesis territory for now.
