My Peregrine 15’s soles are starting to split after about 100 miles. Bummed because they fit me better than any other shoes I’ve had or tried, but the durability is as bad as everyone said. I have a really tough time finding a good fitting shoe because my feet are widest at the midfoot and most wide fitting shoes have more room at the toe box. I tried on almost everything at REI last time I was in store and the usual recs weren’t a great fit. I’ve had Topos and Altras, I still felt like my feet were hanging over the edges and cramped. No preference for zero drop or not. Feet are kind of flat, but I do have some arch. Any recs for similar shoes or is this an issue that I need to fix by improving my arches?

You can see it on the middle lug in the 3rd and 4th row from the top. This was the first time I noticed. I think it was probably recent, maybe even over the weekend because I put about 20 miles on the shoes in Sedona/Flagstaff and terrain was rough going up Mt Humphreys. I thought maybe it was a design, but only this shoe had it. Other than the split, the lugs and shoes in general feel like they’re wearing out quicker than any other shoes I’ve owned. I run on sharp rocky terrain since I’m in Vegas, but because none of my other shoes have had the same problem, I can’t write it off as that. Not happy with the quality and would probably avoid the brand as a whole in the future.

They’re splitting on the bottom part of the sole. You can see it on the middle lug in the 3rd and 4th row. I thought it was part of the design, but it’s only on one shoe. Overall, really not happy with the quality and probably wouldn’t buy another pair of Saucony shoes. I got them at REI and they’re still within the return window, so I’m going to bring them back in.

Peregrine good for short run (20-25km) technical or muddy terrain. Bushido are similar but better on dry terrain.

You’re right. I have xodus 4 and peregrine. If only they puts Vibram into peregrine will be a great shoes. Ride TR is a door to trail shoes..

I only got 180mi on my Peregrine 15s before the inside stitching around the heel split and the shoe lost all of it's structure. SG5s also didn't last long for me (the upper splits where it meets the midsole), but were great for the first 200mi. I'm onto Mount To Coast T1s and enjoying the combination of toe box width, traction, and stability (despite being a decent stack height of PEBA).. will report back on the longevity in a couple months.

The Saucony Peregrine 15 has stayed pretty true to its roots with a low(er) stack height and the same 4mm drop - always a great option based on what it sounds like you’re looking for!

I sold my Speedgoat 6 after putting in about 60km, grip is good but overall quality is sub par. Have not run in Mafate but own two pair of Tecton x2, I like them but one pair blew out in the toe box after ca. 150km... I fixed them and they still go strong but I only use them on dry days and dry trails (Portugal and Colorado) for reference I am in Norway where the trails are super technical (rocks and roots) and often wet. Saucony... I love the Endorphin Speed for the road or treadmill but I have had two pair of Peregrine and not only do they run at least 1/2 size small for me they fell apart after less than 100km...and the grip was sub par to say the least. Never felt confident with them on wet trails. I have never ran in LaSportiva, I just don't like how they look or feel... same with Solomon. With all that said here is what I am currently running in: Tecton x2: again for dry trails only. 8/10 New Balance More Trail3: for the easy days and to have a little more cushion when running slow. Good grip, excellent comfort although the stack is a little high for technical terrain. 6/10 Scott Supertrac Ultra RC: A little on the heavy side but I use them with crampons in the snow. Good fit, good cushion and good traction after you break in the sole. 7/10 Speedland GS:RAR : very good shoe, very good quality... they pinch my pinky toe a bit but this has gotten better the more they break in also they were a little "slappy" at first when I was running slow but I trimmed some rubber at the heel and now they go smooth. 7/10 !!! Speedland GL:PDX : I fooking LOOOVE this shoe! So well built, such good traction... the velcro strap could be an inch longer but I am not complaining I have never had heel slippage, my toes have room to splay, the stack is low and I can add the carbon plate for extra fire! I have run almost exclusively in these since Christmas putting in at least 60km a week (~4,000m vertical) in wet technical trails and I have never felt insecure. Plus they are built to last! Tempted to buy another pair soon just to have as backup. 9/10 If you go Speedland put in Freetrail20 at checkout for 20% off 👌🏽

Can echo this. Same foot shape issue and have both the Hierro and the Peregrine 15. Haven’t ran enough in the Hierro to comment on durability yet

The new peregrine has a significantly improved midsole.

My suggestions are Asics Trabuco 13, Brooks Cascadia 19, or Saucony Peregrine 15. None of these are stability shoes but they have mid-stack cushion and work pretty well with different kinds of stability-type mechanisms in them.

You need to go to a running shop and try on shoes. But I have the Hoka Mafate Speed 4 and would never use it in slippery/ muddy conditions. It has nowhere near the grip in those conditions compared to my Saucony Peregrines.

I have warrantied Peregrines before. If I were you I would put some more miles in on those and if those really do split open then I would warranty them. Saucony sent me a digital code and I "bought" a new pair from their web site. You're going to need to take photos of the shoes and their inside tongue.

It is a bit hard to see in the photo, but I think I see what you mean. Peregrines have been great for me in general except the 13s were built poorly. I am on my second pair of 15s. But I have heard others complain and warrantied a pair of the 14s. I probably got through 5 pair a year so I figure that rate isn't too bad.

The Xodus is just slightly wider too. Peregrine is my main shoe and fits me perfect, but everyone has different feet and your fit in Xodus may vary from mine. Just something to look for when buying.

They tried to fuck it up with the 13, but have recovered well. The 15 is nice, I just ordered my third pair. They finally got rid of the split sole, though I only warrantied that issue once.
