Babyzen (Stokke) - YOYO2

I’ve logged miles on the Babyzen Yoyo and it’s been a lifesaver for overhead bins....it folds up so small I barely know it’s there and it feels sturdy enough for daily use.

Second hand yoyo worked for us

100%. We bought a second hand yoyo on Vinted for £100 including the rain cover. Already taken it on 3 trips and lent it to a friend. Also a lifesaver if we need to take the pram into London as it’s so light we don’t need to worry about step free access.

I looked at the Yoyo, the Nuna Trvl, and a few others but ultimately went with the Bugaboo Butterfly. The basket on the BB is so much larger and the fold was smaller. I'd skip the bundle with the cupholder, stroller bag, or small bag that hangs on the handlebar. The small bag is too big, the stroller bag is tough to get around it especially if you add the bumper bar, and the cup holder holds very little in a way that inspires trust. I would get the bumper bar, that was a lifesaver in being able to attach the tethers to keep him from throwing bottles or toys around the airport.

I’ve had the YoYo for two years now and it’s my go-to everyday stroller. I also have the Cybex Libelle 2 which I keep in my car. I think it glides pretty smoothly- I don’t notice any rickety sound (unlike the Libelle) That’s actually one of the reasons I love. A couple of caveats though. For how expensive it is, it doesn’t come with any accessories, no cup holder or anything but you can always get a cheap stroller caddy and stroller clips from Amazon. All the YoYo branded accessories are ridiculously overpriced. Also, if you purchase the footmuff (it’s pricey but I recommend it for the winter) it will make it difficult to fold, not impossible but you do need to force it a little. Lastly, it doesn’t not fold as easily for me as it does in the videos at all. And for reason the canopy is forever detaching itself when I open it, so it’s definitely not a one-handed motion. All that said, I love how compact and small it folds down. My girl is 2.5 and I’ll be sad when she outgrows it, but I definitely feel like I got my moneys worth. Btw don’t know where you’re shopping, but I got a really good deal on mine (open box) from GoodBuy Gear. I think I paid $100-150 under retail price

I made the mistake of getting a full-sized stroller (Mockingbird) with my first and that was NOT travel friendly 😅 I sold it and we have been exclusively use “compact” strollers as primary since my son was about 1 and a half or maybe younger. We currently have used versions of the Minu v1 and the Babyzen YoYo. I strongly dislike the YoYo… the fold is two steps, requires two hands, and is too complicated for grandparents to do. The harness also detaches into 5 separate pieces which drives me crazy when trying to buckle. The Minu v1 is amazing as an everyday stroller. So sturdy, so easy to use. That said, now that we are expecting our second, I’m thinking about selling BOTH of our current strollers and putting that money towards a Minu v3 or Joolz Aer+, so that we have a more compact stroller that I actually enjoy using (unlike the YoYo). I do not think non-parent facing is a deal-breaker at all, and I think for travel you’ll be fine with just car seat. I would definitely look for strollers that fold with the car seat adapters and where you don’t need to remove the seat in order to use it with a car seat. That way once your baby is over 6 months (or younger if you are parked somewhere), baby can stretch out for a nap… but again, we did many car seat naps 🙂 I’m sorry I don’t know much about the other options you mention, but I think the Minu v3 is INCREDIBLE! I wouldn’t worry too much about finding a true “travel system” if you mean buying the car seat + stroller from the same brand. I thought I needed this too in the beginning, but it’s not necessary and might limit your options too much! just make sure the stroller works with a car seat (usually through adapters with easy click in and out) and can fold with the adapters on. Both the Minu (v2 and v3) and Joolz Aer+ can do that. My infant car seat is a Nuna Pipa.

mom of one with a second on the way -- If it markets itself as newborn ready, I think that recline should be fine. the "flat" idea is just so they dont slide around. don't get the metro+, unless they've made improvements I haven't seen to the canopy -- you'll want lots of shade for your newborn. i LOVE my original Minu (and would love the V2 even more), but the Joolz Aer is slightly more travel-friendly if that is important to you. It is small enough to bring into the airplane cabin if you're concerned about gate checking and is lighter/smaller. And you are smart to prioritize one-hand fold, that is crucial! And the reason I do NOT like the YoYo.

The vista is a beast, if you’ll be going in and out of the car a lot I’d consider something lighter! I ended up with 2 strollers, 1 light weight travel stroller we keep in the car (yoyo) and the vista which we use strictly for neighbourhood walks (all sidewalks), it’d do fine on dirt roads though. If you need all terrain (trails etc) I wouldn’t get the vista.

Most travel strollers have pull tabs to recline, you can choose any recline level between flat and upright. We have the yoyo and it’s great! If she’s slouching you could always roll a hand towel between her and the crotch buckle.

Not the original commenter but I highly recommend the Babyzen yoyo. We’ve used it on a couple of international trips now (including UK to Australia, so ~26 hours of travelling) and it’s been brilliant. If you ever travel to Europe/on European airlines it’s also the only travel stroller I could find that actually fits within all airline cabin baggage size allowances.

We have the Babyzen yoyo2 and absolutely love it as our small travelled stroller. It does take a minute the first time to figure out how to fold it properly but once we figured it out it’s then super easy to do. Folds up small enough that it goes in the overhead bin on a plane. When we travelled in Europe the airport staff took one look at it, asked if it was a yoyo and just waved it through without even checking it when we said yes. Shoulder strap is also very handy for carrying it, although we did get the backpack bag for it too.

We have both. Our full size stroller has much bigger wheels and is significantly easier to navigate, whether over bumpy cobblestone streets or gravel/dirt paths in the countryside. It’s taller so at a better height for my husband and I who are both tall. The basket is a decent size so it fits my son’s backpack + my handbag + shopping + coats. It has a proper sun shade and can be angled back to help my son sleep. We then got a babyzen yoyo for a trip to France when he was 3 months old. It is very small and zippy and was great for getting on and off the plane. I love how small it is for rental cars/transport but for the same reason I’d never use it at my every day stroller. It’s just not sturdy enough and doesn’t have enough storage space for an every day stroller.

Highly recommend trying to find a secondhand Babyzen yoyo. We got one for that price, although it will be top of the budget. It’s the only travel stroller I’ve found that actually fit within the listed carryon dimensions of all of the airlines I looked up. Personally I’m also super glad I got one I could bring on the plane with me. When we travelled to Australia at 9 months there were massive queues at immigration and having the stroller for my son rather than needing to have one of us carry him was a blessing. Made it super easy for him to sleep too. My son hates baby wearing so it was the only option to be relatively hands free.

I don’t think you’re going to be able to get lightweight, easy to take for walks and can face back or forward. The sturdier the stroller is the heavier and less foldable it’s going to be. If everything is close to you and you don’t need to put it in a car then that would actually mean the sturdy stroller makes more sense, not a compact one. We do have 2. Our everyday stroller both for city walking and for taking off road in the countryside is very sturdy, has great suspension, a massive basket, supports a bassinet and the seat can be put forward or back. Because of this it barely folds up and is definitely on the heavier side, so we also have a Babyzen yoyo to use for travel on planes.

I only have experience with the Yoyo. I bought it because of the issue you mentioned of all of the other ones not actually fitting within the baggage guidelines, I didn’t want to risk it getting taken away and not having it for layovers. Whenever I fly they ask if it’s a yoyo and when I say yes just wave me through. I’ve never had an issue with it coming on a plane with me both to/around Europe and internationally to Australia.

I’d absolutely get a compact stroller for travel as well. We got a similar stroller to you (the silver cross wave) as it’s sturdy and good for all terrain but it barely folds down. We can take it on vacations where we drive but no way we’d do it by plane. We got a Babyzen yoyo secondhand at half price to use when travelling and it’s been brilliant being able to take it onboard the plane with us.

Why can’t you use both? A lot of people have a small travel stroller specifically just for travelling and have a bigger one for day to day life with better suspension. My son is around 15 months, has been walking since just before 12 months and still uses his stroller a lot. Most of what I’ve seen from other parents is that even if they don’t use it consistently if you go out a lot they’ll likely still use it some of the time. In terms of recs, we have the Babyzen yoyo and as far as I could find it was the only stroller that actually fit within the cabin baggage allowance of all of the European airlines I looked up as they’re smaller than US ones. You may get away with using others advertised as travel strollers that technically are just too large in one or two dimensions but I’ve also seen people report having theirs made to be checked due to size. The Yoyo on the other hand at every checkpoint we were asked if it was a Yoyo and when we said yes they waved us through without measuring. There’s lots on the secondhand market so you don’t have to pay full price. Super compact/easy to carry and also very easy to fold once you’ve done it a couple of times.
