This monitor definitely smears but other than that it’s pretty great for the price. I have mine on my sim racing rig now.

r/ultrawidemasterraceWhich 34" Ultrawide would you pick?

The Dell S3422DWG is always my suggestion for that price range. It’s only real issue is some ghosting. Other than that it’s a great monitor for the price. When I upgraded to the G8 I moved the Dell to my sim racing rig and it works awesome for that

What about the viewing angles? I had an S3422DWG from Dell as well and color and gamma shifts were obvious from almost any angle. Additionally, the panel had some serious VRR flicker. Black Smearing was also noticable in some games, e.g. Neon Abyss. Had to return it and got the LG 34GN850 instead because it had none of these issues apart from poor contrast. I am still looking to find an upgrade till this day...

Dell S3422DWG - i've seen them go on sale for $200 once in a blue moon, but $350 should be the average price point.

So the 5k ones are starting to roll out this year, but will need a top GPU to run them. I've been enjoying my Dell S3422DWG monitor for the last 3+ years. Has been a great and very sharp while also having nice dark levels at night. Just has one permanent dark pixel on the top right corner. ( they guarantied against no bright pixels :/ -still love it tho.

Hey there, I’m using a 34-inch with a MacBook Pro M1 Max. It was definitely a bit strange to deal with all those problems in the beginning, because I never thought that it would be such a thing and that you need to consider so many things. BetterDisplay is the App that you’re looking for. It will help you with the HiDPi and the resolution issues since you can create your own resolutions and it will look much better than macOS would handle it. I think I’ve paid 20€ for it. There are no issues regarding text clarity or anything else. Before I upgraded to OLED (Gigabyte MO34WQC2) I’ve used a Dell S3422DWG. I use the monitor also for gaming since my PC is also connected to it. Oh and make sure how you connect the monitor to your Mac. There are some differences between HDMI and DP regarding Refresh Rate etc. Hope that helped.

Agree I had the predecessor, the S3422DWG and it was good I’d use it to code with a dark editor and it still didn’t bother me much after I got used to it. Better contrast and no glow was nice. I can imagine it being further refined, my only real complaint at the time was it could’ve gotten a little bit brighter SDR but running it in HDR worked fine for me. For $370 it’s impossible to complain or to justify another $230+ for IPS. I went for VA at the time bc I wasn’t paying $900+ for the LG ultra gears and glad I didn’t. In no world is it worth that price for a bit more brightness and better colors while having its own downsides as a technology.

I don't own a g5. Can't tell you. I do however have a dell s3422dwg and it's fantastic. It also has a VA panel but I don't see any issues with it personally.

I have a 34” Dell s3422dwg VA 1440p curved monitor. It’s amazing. I don’t plan on ever replacing it until it breaks. Then on to Mini Led.

Dell s3422dwg 34" 1440p 144Hz Ryzen 7 5700x3d + radeon 6800 xt 16GB + 32GB 3600Mhz ddr4. Pretty much always get 100+fps and in the black a locked 144fps with almost everything around high settings.

I have a Dell 34"S3422. More pricey but I'm sure it's the same deal. And I agree unless you get super close to the monitor, the experience isn't all that great. My space is limited, so I use a swivel arm to move the monitor between my desk and my sim rig beside it when I race. https://preview.redd.it/5cu8e8umaijf1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=05706c45363c661a8d3889b651e0fc1ce4b78e5b
