r/macminiDoes mac mini m4 have display problem with monitors? Planning to buy an LG ultrawide
8 months ago

I have used my M4 Mac Mini for productivity with a Dell U4919DW that is 5120x1440 and it is perfectly legible for my old eyes and glasses, but could be better. I am currently using it with a 32” Samsung S32D850 2560x1440 and a 27” Auria Eq276WN 2560x1440 in portrait mode with better display so the text size matches on the monitors. These two monitors provide slightly better quality text, but that may be because I can scale them better than the 5120x1440. I think you will be fine and suggest you try better display to see if it helps your experience.

I use the Dell U4919DW for past 5 years mostly for development and CAD modeling and got no complaints. I am now looking to upgrade to a HDR monitor but the original is solid.

I'm rocking a Dell U4919DW and it works like a charm. I use BetterSnapTool but there may be something integrated into the OS now for custom window sizes.

I think that is a good thing. So you can fit the whole screen inside your field of view. I got this 49" with 3800R, and that definitely was an early mistake by Dell. I can't see the sides at all, because it's barely curved.

I tested those Dell’s side by side. The most noticeable is the outer 5-7cm. With 1900r it’s a good read. With the 3800r i had the feeling i had to move my chair 20cm to the left or right.

I went from a Dell 34" UW to a Dell 49" UW and honestly the 49" is too wide for productivity. Now admittedly the curve on the Dell is not as aggressive as some of the Samsungs, but the edges of the screen are out of my field of view and require too much rotation of my neck to be useful to me. When I bought the monitor, I thought I was going to make greater use of the picture-by-picture feature to run a customer laptop and my work laptop at the same time but turns out that was not a scenario I really needed (most of my customer's would rather give me a VDI than send me a laptop). I like it for gaming, but I am considering moving to a 38 or 40" 21:9 monitor after tax season.

Yeah, I just looked up the Dell IPS 49". Price is around $1400. The color accuracy, built-in KVM, and USB-C hub seem great for visual work. I'm guessing the Picture-by-Picture mode helps when switching between devices?

I have a 49" Dell and if I'm honest, I spend 99.9% of my time using the 27" LG Dual Up monitor that's off to the side of it. The 49" is too squat, short. I just bought a 40" curved Dell and the Samsung 57" (that's basically two 49's stacked on top of each other without the bezel.) I'll try them both on the desk for a few days then send the one I don't like back. I'm learning towards the 57 because I love the width, it was just the height of the 49 that I couldn't live with.

I love my AVP, and with the included strap that goes over the top of your head it makes it much more comfortable for those long sessions when you’re using your AVP as your monitor. I have 2 49” dell ultra wides stacked vertically for my office setup, and I use my AVP at home to get my close to that same feeling. Ultra wide screen support with your Mac is just fabulous! It’s worth the money. And If you’re a dev, you’ll get more use for your money out of an AVP vs a single function monitor. Just IMO from a day one AVP user and someone who was just thinking about buying an ultra wide for my flight sim setup I just built. Then I remembered I have my AVP and now I’m flying in VR which is wayyyy better than the monitor I would have bought.

Yes. For creativity work, in North America and 49”, the Dell IPS panel is the best. LG used to make a nice one with higher refresh rate, but not currently available. Image quality on the Dell IPS 49” is way better than the Samsung VA panel, though it is pricey.

Yeah. It’s really sweet for productivity and design, and the PiP and KVM work great. Only downside is sides is I wish it had a more aggressive curve and was faster than 60Hz refresh. But apparently we can’t have everything with an IPS panel this size since OLED is taking over the market. Side note, I had an OLED first and returned it due to horrible text fringing. Games looked great, but text and pictures suffered.

I just returned my Alienware OLED 21:9 due to fuzzy text fringing making work terrible. I’m replacing it with the Dell IPS 49” monitor and it will arrive within the week. I also tried the Samsung Neo G9 49” and the text was better on the Samsung VA panel than thebOLED by a long shot. My other monitor is an Asus IPS which is superior for text clarity, hence why I switched to the Dell 49” IPS. As far as I can tell the Dell 49” IPS is one of the only remaining IPS panels in the 49” format, with the ones from LG no longer available in my area.

I just got rid of my OLED widescreen that was 109ppi. If you go OLED make sure you go 140ppi or higher with a 4k2k monitor. I went with the Dell 49” IPS display. It 100% kicks butt on productivity compared to the Samsung VA panel. Text is crystal clear. Text fringing on OLED was not tolerable for me.

r/ultrawidemasterraceWhat is the best non samsung non oled 49 inch?

For productivity, the Dell with IPS display is one of the only IPS 49” monitors still in production. Only downsides are 60Hz refresh rate and very shallow 3800r curve. Everything else in NA is VA (OK for productivity) or OLED.

I just got the Dell 49” IPS and it is beautiful for productivity, text, and images. I had to return an Alienware OLED and a Samsung G9 Mini-LED VA panel because the text fringing was pretty bad even on the Samsung. I’ve never used a 5k2k, but apparently the higher ppi mitigates but doesn’t eliminated the OLED text fringing. If your productivity I’d stick with an IPS panel,

I tried OLED for work, it sucked for text rendering. I caved and got Dell IPS Dark 49”.
