I don't like large ultrawide displays because their PPI is simply too low for macOS you need at least 200. At 40" you can literally see every pixel. I wish I'd never bought my cheap plastic LG 5K ultrawide and just spent the extra $250 for the Apple Studio.

I personally wouldn't. My LG ultrawide is 34" and I can see every pixel, whereas that Dell is even bigger so that comes to only 140 ppi and the way macOS does antialiasing not only will you literally see every pixel but they'll look even larger than mine. However, if you're not a creative making a living as a designer/retoucher etc and the large pixels don't bother you, then go for it. Although if possible I would at least recommended seeing it in person, preferably running off a Mac, so you can play with resolution and see if you can get it where you like it. At 40" you might be able to run it at native res with screen elements/type still being legible. Good luck!

Your 40” display’s pixels DO NOT and CANNOT change size when you “use the right scaling.” It’s the pixels per inch figure that matter, thats permanent. I am literally seeing every pixel right now on my LG 34” 5k2k ultra wide. Still usable to me, just not ideal, but At 40” no matter what scaling you use normal human eyes will easily see pixels at norm viewing distance while using your Mac. I’ve been a pro photo retoucher, designer, and Mac dork for 30 years. These aren’t opinions they’re facts. Facts don’t care about your feelings. I’m starting to feel like I’m arguing with a Trumper.

I am so happy that people are so in love with the 5k2k resolution now. I have been using the LG 34WK95U from 2018, the first ever 5k2k monitor, and now I thinks it's time to upgrade!

I don't like how it distorts how you view the screen. Right now I'm using the LG 34WK95U-W and it is practically perfect :) Flat screen, just wide enough that I feel it's substantial and doesn't require my head to look left/right. If I had to nitpick: OLED, USB-C ports (instead of USB-A), and more height, and even thinner on the profile. Otherwise, near perfect. There was an Alogic monitor that was announced a few months ago that was promising but it fell out of contention (forget why :P).

I have an LG 34” ultrawide 5120x2160 60Hz display with my M3Pro MacBook Pro and it’s awesome. I’ve had it for over 5 years now. Worked great with my old M1, works great now. I’m primarily a photo and video editor.

r/mac • I’ve taken the position that a nice 4K monitor with high refresh rate (or 34” Ultrawide) will provide me a great user experience, over 5K slow refresh rate alternatives. Am I being reasonable? ->

It’s technically a 5K2K or “ultrawide 4K” true 5K would be 5120x2880 I tried 2 different 1440P displays based on others recommendations and found them horrible with really soft text and generally blurry images. The 5K2K looks like retina to me so I love it. 1440P just doesn’t scale well with Mac.

There has been a 34" 5k2k. It has 160 PPI which is the same as a 27" 4k monitor. It's great for productivity and coding applications. It depends on what PPI you want for your games. A 45" would be around 120 PPI and a 39" around 140 PPI.

Get one of these 5K2K displays and thank me later. Won't need to deal with Better Display to lower resolution even further LG has two, one 34" and another 40". Dell has two generations of them as well.

This is really awesome! I currently run the older LG 34" 5k/2K as my main monitor for several years now. I'm a designer, so the widescreen comes in super handy, especially when I need to have a ton of windows open, or I'm doing After Effects work. But I kept finding myself adding a second monitor, and I just didn't love that either aesthetically, or how finicky the two monitors were with my Mac. So I'm very interested in putting this larger screen through its paces.

I j got the 34” 5k2k from lg. rn it’s on sale for like 800 down from 1600 msrp. Fantastic monitor giving me enough space for my college work in finance but also my creative work in photo and video. Tbh I would go for this if you can afford it bc resolution and screen width

Thank you guys at LG I'm already on an LG 5k2k from 2019 (the 34WK95U) and still going strong at 14K hours on it. This much real-estate is the sweet spot. I've finally been able to have enough documents open at the same time. This new OLED and larger screen just makes it interesting enough for an upgrade. I'm worried for the curve since all monitors I've owned so far have been flat though... Thanks.
