I picked the exact same monitor and I am typing on it now. It's clear as a bell. I didn't want the stupid built in OS so this was better than last years model. I bought this for gaming and after watching a few reviews about the 5k2k not scaling well for lower resolutions I bought this because I can actually run games in the native resolution without upscaling. With the 5k2k I was planning on just scaling down to 3440x1400 anyways but happy I just bought it native. Super happy I did. It's basically a perfect match for my system (Ultra 265 + RTX 5070). I also got a smoking deal on this monitor. If offered a 5k2k for trade on this one to one, I don't know if I would even do it, I have the resolution I want with no scaling and 240hz native instead of 165hz.

I currently have the 45 inch LG Ultra Gear 45GX90SA OLED. Amazing for gaming but not great for work with the low resolution compared to the size of the screen. I only got it because I got it used in excellent condition from Best Buy for $660, but I just got the Samsung G75K 40 inch off Samsung’s website for $617 with 2 years of Samsun Care+ included for $1. Go to their website and chat the live agent. It was listed for $750 when I first started and ended up paying $617. I think they accidentally gave me too many discounts, but you can at least get 5% off, and they’ll price match for next 15 days if they lower the price at all (via refund).

Just grabbed this exact monitor on a Black Friday sale. It’s an incredible gaming and media consumption monitor. For my gaming PC (4080 laptop), this is the ideal resolution. During gaming, I can’t tell that the PPI is “only” 80ish. Games look incredible on here. That said, I wouldn’t do any actual work on this monitor. The text fringing and blurriness doesn’t bother me much, but I’m reading for 5-10mins at a time, max. If I had to work on this bad boy for 8hrs, I think it would be a problem. When I upgrade to a 5070ti desktop later on, I would consider the 5k2k one, but honestly, I think I’m set for the next 4-5 years with this one. It’s really great and I’d rather push higher frames at 1440p than lower frames at 4K. Edit: 4K not 2K

As a GX9 user, I love the extra height. I use it for photo editing and doing some video editing on resolve. It’s really good, the space helps a lot.

r/ultrawidemasterraceAre there any good ultrawides that aren't "smart" tvs
about 1 month ago

Almost all of them? Not many ultrawide monitors are smart TVs. Even my cutting edge LG GX9 OLED has no smart system, no internet connection, no apps, etc. Same with Samsungs ultrawide and Alienware ultrawides. And most others. Are you running into this issue a lot?

Also a coder here who recently purchased the GX9. I came from 27 + 34 IPS monitors (both @ 1440P) and while the GX9 indeed blows IPS monitors out of water when it comes to vibrancy and gaming immersion, text clarity is just lacking - my eyes feel so strained looking at fuzzy texts, which never happened with the IPS panels. If you are sensitive like me, you would have to go for the 40U990A, which based on the Dell U4025QW (same panel) would be nowhere near as good in both colors and motion handling (the Dell one is really slow per Rtings). I'm also about to place an order for the 40U990A and return the GX9 after evaluating both side-by-side.

I’ve had it for over a month and I love it. But you’re right, I’m using a 5090 and could still use more!

r/ultrawidemasterrace45-inch LG monitor or the 49-inch Samsung monitor?

you should unironically get the samsung g9 because the 110 PPI is almost exactly the same retina resolution as your macbook air's 224 PPI at 200% scale (112). things will look the same size on your 49 inch at 100% scaling so it'll be easy to move things between them. i have a LG GX9 with 125 ppi and my macbook pro 14" has 254 PPI, and at default 200% scaling u get 1512 x 982 = 127 ppi. i have the choice between using my monitor at 100% DPI and with effectively +4 laptop screens of space to put stuff in albeit with tiny font, or using it as my sole monitor with 2560 x 1080 scaled resolution which gives me effectively still retina but more than native resolution. and in retina, the OLED font issues don't exist, much less with the change from RWBG to a more similar to OS expected RGB with RGWB improving sharpness edit: jk retina on macbook air is different. the native res 13.6" changes 2560 x 1664 to 1470 x 956, which gives effectively 143 PPI on the scaled "retina" resolution. that would mean you should go for a 4k 32" monitor at 138 PPI for your macbook air instead, for similar real life sizes. the samsung 49" will make your windows look too big once you move them to it unless you apply a 125% scale, but your text will look pretty bad in macOS with that scaling at non-retina res

It's a shame that LG continues to make their ultrawides with such an aggressive curve. It really is a beautiful monitor in person, but every horizontal line on screen is warped.

I have gone back and forth with this same question. I currently have a 32" 4k oled but tried the updated aw3425dw. To me, a 34" 1440p display makes everything feel super small. You get extended peripheral, but the view in front of you is reduced. I noticed myself looking up and down way more on the 34" to be able to see everything, which I found annoying. (Destiny, Oblivion, diablo 4, warzone). I have the older 1440p lg 45" and the larger screen and sharp curve are great. (Personal preference). I would be running the new 45" 5k2k if my rig could get more than 60frames. (4080 laptop)

If you have a 5090, run dldsr and set the resolution to 5120x2160 on your 1440p monitor. I have the older LG 45" and am running it at 5120x2160 and it looks great with my 7800x3d and 5090
