r/Workspaces β€’ Should I buy this Samsung 49” CRG9 ultrawide for $350? First-time home office setup (WFH software engineer) β†’
about 2 months ago

I have an LG 49" IPS LED Curved UltraWide Dual QHD 144Hz display that is similar and I love it. Same resolution as yours (5120 x 1440). About the only thing that takes getting used to is this: If you're used to 2 or three monitors, you tend to angle them too you. This curve is not as severe as your angled screens, so the working on either end takes some getting used to, as the ends are not 'facing' you as much as separate screens centered on you. Windows 11 has some excellent snap-to presets that work great with an ultra-wide, so setting up seamless 3 or 4 windows is a snap. My most used is the 3-virticle windows, with the middle one being the widest. I really wish they had a 4-verticle one for the ultra-wide, but this can be done manually. I also prefer a 22" monitor set portrait to the left of the ultra-wide that I dedicate to email. But my current work laptop will not push the 6200 x 1920 display. https://preview.redd.it/3ye3iucnul6g1.png?width=1012&format=png&auto=webp&s=4276672d90cb1fe9b4b8683cd8fdf483184de937

I had the same question a few years ago and went with the LG 49WQ95C-W. It equates to two 27-inch screens. I thought I'd game on it more, but it's been a workhorse for research and documentation. It has a built-in KVM. I push through the two HDMI ports on my work laptop. The bonus of that set-up is that the laptop sees two separate screens, so when I screen share, I have one side all nice and pretty, and the other has all my notes. I was going to use the DisplayPort for gaming, but I haven't gamed in about a year or more.

LG 49WQ95C-W - 49", 100% SRGB, 98% P3, 5ms, 144hz, Nano IPS Black, USB-C Power Delivery, 3800R curve so only slightly curved and not wrap around. Got one 2 weeks ago, screen is crystal clear :-)

LG 49WQ95C 5120x1440 - 144Hz - IPS - 5ms USB-C up to 90W Bought it just this week after I got rid of my Samsung CRG9 earlier. Just couldn't miss 32:9 after going back to 16:9 for a short time. My only minor complaint is that the LG could have used a bit more curve. It's already a lot better after getting used to it a bit though. Edit: the 57" must be amazing but in my region it's almost twice as expensive.

I am using an LG 49” 120hz curved monitor on my m4 Mac mini. Works fine. No issues, I’m using an 8k hdmi cable

I recently purchased the 49 inch LG and have regrets - excellent picture but not curved enough for such a wide monitor. I’m forever leaning left or right rather than just turning my head.

Don't get an OLED, as good as it is for gaming and movies it is bad to read texts on. Samsung odyssey g9 or lg UW dual qhd, both are great

I had the LG 49" in the past, so I didn't think it had enough of a curve at that size, but I ultimately sold it. I only used it for productivity: work, coding, and analysis. I felt it was too short for coding, especially since it was 1440p and I didn't get enough use out of the left and rightmost 6" of the screen (again, mine wasn't curved enough). I really prefer my 40" 5K2K ultrawide over a 49" 1440p ultrawide since it's the same vertical size as a 32" 4K 16:9 monitor.

I prefer a single ultrawide cause you don't have any bezel in the middle or a side monitor and a main one. I'm using a 49" ultrawide monitor (LG)

Yeah I got a 49" 5100x1440 monitor. Its good in some ways but not the best thing ever tbh. Main issue is RL fits to the width, so you lose top and bottom visibility. The icons (boost meter/score etc) are correctly placed Replays default to 16:9 but are also fitted to the width of your screen, meaning the sky and half your car is cut off. Car feels much faster too. My car feels super slow when I switch to a 16:9 window. *
