LG - UltraFine 40-inch Nano IPS Black 5K2K with Thunderbolt 5 (40U990A-W)

I have the 40U990A. If you have Mac’s go with that one for the thunderbolt 5. Initially I didn’t see much of a difference between my 38, but after some time, it’s definitely an upgrade. The text is much sharper. It’s a good monitor.

That monitor is almost perfect. I really want a new IPS that is around 40" for 90% productivity and the rest gaming (couple of hours a week). The 5ms response time puts me off that when I do play BF6 for example, it will be annoyingly noticeably slow

You mean the LG U990A-W? It's the same panel. Just slight differences in connectivity.

I run that for gaming and the Dell for work. I don't wanna mess with OLED for my all day work monitor.

Also a coder here who recently purchased the GX9. I came from 27 + 34 IPS monitors (both @ 1440P) and while the GX9 indeed blows IPS monitors out of water when it comes to vibrancy and gaming immersion, text clarity is just lacking - my eyes feel so strained looking at fuzzy texts, which never happened with the IPS panels. If you are sensitive like me, you would have to go for the 40U990A, which based on the Dell U4025QW (same panel) would be nowhere near as good in both colors and motion handling (the Dell one is really slow per Rtings). I'm also about to place an order for the 40U990A and return the GX9 after evaluating both side-by-side.

LG 40WT95UF and 40U990A are the same monitor, just LG doing their usual crap of creating a ton of different names for the same product. They're also not available yet for there to be any reviews - EU amazon has it listed for delivery in September, reviews should start appearing by then. The Dell uses the same panel as LG, Dell has some agreement with LG Display to have exclusivity on these IPS Black panels for around a year. Main difference will be the more modern connectivity on the LG with thunderbolt 5 (80gbps) and DP2.1 (54gbps, should be 80 like thunderbolt but what can you do). On the other hand Dell has 140W PD (LG has 96W) and 2.5gbps ethernet (LG doesn't specify, probably gigabit only then)

The [40U990A](https://tweakers.net/pricewatch/2259706/lg-ultrafine-40u990a-wit-zwart.html) does indeed have 2 fans inside. I have tinnitus so that won't deter me. In fact I might prefer it since it'll cool the electronics better and I won't be bothered by it anyway.

Hi, my experience with the **LG UltraFine 40U990A-W** is that it is a gorgeous monitor for productivity, but I cannot for the life of me get the 120Hz to work with Mac nor with PS5. LG Support have been useless so I am considering returning it back for the Dell 40", and although it uses the same LG Panel, it has TB4 not TB5 so less future proof - however, I did manage to get the 120Hz on the Dell last time I had it...

If you can get the LG 40U990A and test them next to each other you will have another option to consider. it's also a 5k2k IPS but it has TB5 - I personally preferred the LG (see my post)

I own the current 39 and the size is sweet spot. 45 may good too, if you have enough tablen space but ppi on 5k 39 will be better

By the way, just a remark for this monitor: it’s way louder than Dell. Fan is really noisy on this one. Be aware.

Yes, it has, and not a quiet one. IMO, it’s not suited for people working in quiet environments who are also sensitive to audible bearing fan noise. Perhaps they are going to change it via firmware to have an option to disable the fan noise under certain circumstances but no idea here.

The one pictured? I just got the lg 5k2k 45" for mainly gaming and also photo editing, but it's pretty damn curved. I didnt see these ones come up when i had looked for a new monitor. That LG 40u990a actually does have a few % higher color accuracy than the 45GX950A i got with just a bit less of a refresh rate. I do like OLED for the blacks and contrast and usually the peak brightness isnt really a problem.
