I have the 40 MSI. Cant recommend. The contrast is just really bad. And without it being curved if you do not sit far away enough the edges of the screen are bleeding out contrast wise even more when playing dark games. Really annoying. Like really bad backlight bleeding. And response time does not seem better than my previous mediocre va panel. But that could just be me. The ghosting is on par with my old va panel. Especially racing games with a dark car on light asphalt it is more pronounced than on my old va.

I use the MSI Mag401qr. It fits perfectly in the little space I have for my rig. It's a 155hz IPS panel, and I like it a lot. I kinda wish it was curved, but you get used to the flat panel pretty quickly. I'm running it with a 4070 Super and 7700x. I typically get about 120 fps with full grids, but it'll dip into the 60s at race start.

Msi MAG401QR 40” ultrawide if you want 1440p. It’s flat, not curved. But price is great at $399 usd. I use it and no complaints from me, but I also use a wheelstand and desk so I can’t speak to how it feels in a true rig, even though I get the monitor close-ish to me with the stand right up under the desk. I would go triples if I had the space though, this was a limitation and compromise of my space

Let us know how you like it! I don't own this version, but I own the cheaper 3440x1440 Innocn 144hz version and the 155hz MSI version that has the same panel. Personally I LOVE the 40 inch size! Anyone who that might have issues with a 34 inch ultrawide because they feel like they are missing a portion (or dare I say...real estate) from the top of screen, then this is the perfect size for an ultrawide in my opinion and I don't feel like anything is missing. I came from a 49 inch 32:9 5120x1440 monitor that was curved, and I love the 21:9 40 inch form factor much more. Ghosting is almost a none issue IMO, at least in real world gaming, especially compared to a VA panel. Since they aren't OLED however, there is a degree of ghosting, but I personally don't notice it in games. Only noticeable in UFOTEST but even then it has really good performance for the price! And again, they are IPS! I prefer the MSI because you can change the picture settings in the MSI software, I don't have to get up to interact with joystick or buttons. I do for Innocn. Besides that, MSI version has LED lighting on back which I can only see at night but still cool. If anyone is interested either the 401QR or 401CR I would say base it on if you rather change picture settings in software or physically have to get up to push buttons. Performance is the same.

I have an MSI MAG401QR, flat 21:9 IPS with a 155hz refresh rate. I was also looking for a long time before it was back in stock again, but it seems decently available nowadays

You need an IPS monitor because, as you mentioned, you’ll be using one or two IDEs for around 10 hours a day, which could lead to burn-in issues with an OLED. There are some good 34" IPS monitors, such as the **U3425WE** or **MAG401QR (flat)**. However, if your work doesn’t require keeping the IDE open for 10 hours straight, then you can go with an OLED, such as the **Alienware AW3425DW**.
