Odyssey 57. Real estate is insanely boosting for multi app productivity.
57 solo. The comfort of having so much space with one screen is unmatched.
This is what I did since triples is, at best, a pain in the ass to set up for every game I wanted to play at my rig. So I got the odyssey g9 57”, and run reshade with Perspective Correction so that the curvature around the edges is flattened back out and the horizontal FOV is perfect. Now games are easy to just load up, set the resolution, and go. TLDR: if you play other games with less-than-stellar triple support, I’d recommend.
Here is what you may not know.. I have an OG Odyssey G9 (and this applies to all these super sized monitors). You will not always be running full screen real estate for all games. 1) Many games do not support UW (many Souls-like games) and you will be stuck with a central portion. Which means that your card only needs to support 1440 or 4K depending on wheter it would default back to 1440 or 4K. 2) You still have this option if your GPU cant push enough frames for your liking. 3) Many games that aren't pinnacle AAA games, you can still get a higher than expected frame rate in super ultrawide. In my opinion, getting a monitor that is base 4K ultrawide is the right choice, even with a 4080 tier or above card. In my case, I have a 7900xtx. The games I play in 5120X1440 suw have plenty of fps to spare and i usually run a frame limiter anyway. The games that don't support suw, I would rather be playing in 4K than 1440. I would get the 5K2K monitor or even the 57" Odyssey G9 monitor. The worst case scenario is you have to run in the middle, use upscaling/frame gen, or reduce options.
I have both, but made the switch to the 45" and haven't looked back. I just couldn't deal with the blooming.
I have both. The 57" G9 has been sitting in its box in my attic since I got the LG 5K2K. The G9 gets very hot if you use HDR. Noticeably hot. 5-10° over ambient in my case. I prefer 21:9 over 32:9, but that's a person preference thing. I also really like the LG's taller profile and tighter curve for gaming. I find it a lot more immersive. The biggest factor: I *hate* blooming. But I'm very sensitive to it.
I am not going to talk you out of it because I have the 57" and the size is so, so good.
As others have mentioned, you should probably take a look at both in person and consider your use case. As someone with a 57, what I can tell you is that the monitor is an absolute workhorse for productivity and there really isn’t anything (in my personal experience) remotely close to it. It really depends on your priorities (gaming vs work). I may be biased, but the 57 gives you the flexibility to experience certain games in super ultra wide, and for games that don’t support the 57’s resolution, I often play the game in a windowed resolution of 3840x2160 while having space for 2 tabs (browser, app, etc.) on each side of the game. In terms of productivity and convenience, it was a no brainer for me. Best of luck on your decision, both are great monitors!
i use the 2160p 32:9 samsung with an x90 gpu most games run great. modern dlss looks excellent too
better refresh/response than neo odyssey g9?
180 imo is fine though. 200+ is for very serious competitive gamers. but i went with the g9 personally
I got the 57" G9 yesterday, upgraded from a 49" CRG9. It's funny because once it got set up it really didn't feel that much bigger in terms of physical size - but the increased vertical and horizontal resolution are AMAZING for productivity. Before - I would only be able to have two spreadsheets side by side that were actually usable for my purpose. They would have to be side by side, Now I can have 3 - which doesn't sound that impressive but makes a massive difference because now I can have one centered and two on the sides. The curve on the 57 inch is just right IMO, it's not too curved but when you're sitting in front of it - it puts the entire screen in your periphery. I have a secondary 32" 4K QD-OLED monitor that's mostly for gaming. The colors on an OLED are so much better, that this monitor looks pretty bad to me from a gaming perspective (57 inch). If you really care about the gaming experience, you could look at the LG 5K2K as it's much better tuned for that than the 57 inch, which to me is primarily a productivity monitor.
I have the 57 G9 with a PG27UCDM on the side an a LG G5 on top, i love the monitor but u can really tell OLEDs look better having them next to it and the LGs 5k2k its been tempting me to buy it, but no stock on my country right now, also selling the 57 G9 will be tough
I really appreciate this approach to user/product review! The ultrawide sweet spot is gonna vary on aspect. 32:9 already has a sweet spot with the Samsung 57 7k2k. I wish it was OLED but that's it. I think LG is so close with the gx9 in that 45" 5k2k. Having seen the 1440p version at Best buy only months before. That size is fantastic. The PPI is amazing. I don't know enough about if dual mode requires a 2:1 pixel map but if I could get 240hz 1440 and greater than or equal to 144hz 5k2k on a single 45” 21:9 OLED I don't think I'd upgrade until 10k4k 45" became a thing. As it stands, more options around curvature, panel coating, dual mode or not (for cost reasons), and built in speakers would be really nice at the 45" 21:9. I really hope this panel size is here to stay.
