I think 45" is very close to, if not the sweet spot. I have the 49" g9 OLED, which I very much enjoy, but i think the extra vertical screen space would be nice to have.
For what it’s worth: I bought a Samsung 49” super wide monitor a few years ago. It was nice and wide but I found that the curve wasn’t curved enough. To comfortably see the outer portions of the screen I had to move side to side instead of just pivoting/rotating. I ended up returning it and have since just been using 2 aux monitors.
45” may just be the sweet spot. I use a 49” G9 and a 38GN950 which are both brilliant but in the middle could be a great compromise
I’m on a 49 inch Samsung G9 5120x1440p. My old build 5950 & 3080 held reasonably well but did struggle at times.
Yeah. I use my G9 for work/productivity. 32:9 is sadly poorly supported in games. Many games support ultrawide (21:9), but when you're going superultrawide the sides are just getting stretched and you can encounter bugs here and there in certain games. I actually prefer 16:10 but I guess thats so year 2000.
I have the G9 oled since I also use it for other games.
I have both, i prefer the g9 as it works every time, no tweaking settings and i get a bigger fov. I do miss the depth perception and elevation changes so i understand why people can’t go back to screens. Running at 200fps is incredibly smooth and everything is clearer than you’ll ever get in vr so I’m happy with my decision.
Check out the G75K 40" 5k2k. It is the cheapest 5k2k you can get for $700. If you need more screen, then the G9 is the only option.
Get the G9 49" or 57" if budget is no issue. Mac can easily run ultrawide. Download BetterDisplay and you will be fine.
I will always recommend the OLED. For your use case however since you will primarily be playing one game and doing some productivity on it as well this might be the better option. I have had my OLED for almost a year now and I absolutely love it. Most modern day OLEDs have a feature built in called screen shift. Every 10 mins or so the screen will shift a few pixels in a direction to help prevent burn in. Both my LG C1 TV from about 5 years ago now and my Samsung G9 monitor do that. Honestly I think you would be fine with an OLED considering all the advancements that come with it. You almost have to be intentionally trying to cause burn in in order for you to be concerned about it nowadays. Don't get me wrong, the threat is still there but it will take thousands of hours on the same screen and some disabling of default features for it to really be a concern in 2025.
Hey bro, I just got the G9 OLED, im wondering how your holding up as im a dev too and im worried about burn in? How long have you had the monitor for?
Respect this makes me feel better about getting the oled. Do you do anything special to prevent burn in or just use it the way you’d use a reg monitor?
