I have the first one and it doesn’t get used much. Kind of a joke. The newer handheld one with HEPA filter actually works pretty good

I agree- this one is great. I install cabinets and use it every day. The filter does get clogged, but I clean it at the end of every day. It’s really loud though. The first one you show isn’t great, but it’s ok. It’s wet/dry so good for draining a toilet or if you have a flood.

I actually just returned this model. It doesn’t have a pre-filter before the HEPA filter, so it clogs super easily and reduces suction power significantly

Also had the hose on mine die. Bought the 501, stole the hose and assigned the little 501 to home duties. We love it. (Not wet/dry, though.) I like the big one for work stuff as it has capacity, but the little 501 is pretty awesome.

I got the dewalt one, other than a small filter it's been fantastic.

I question how fixable these Ryobi Stick Vacs are - there are very few teardown videos (mostly older models) and aftermarket spare parts, unlike DeWalt but DeWalt doesn't make home vacs (they make shop vacs, which I have the DCV501LN which is excellent). Family has the R18XSV9 Pet Stick vacuum with the R18XSV3-FH3 beater bar/motorised head unit. After about (less) than 2 years, the head's hose tore from repeated flexing. Pretty poor quality hose really. Couldn't tape it as the Y shaped plastic encasing made it inaccessible. Even worse, there is no official replacement for the hose, and Ryobi claims the head is a consumable (which is why there are no spare parts for it apart from the rotating brushes). A new replacement head is 1/4 the price of the vacuum, which is really stupid when one of the cheapest parts of the head is prone to early failure, leaving the head unusable. I quite like the replaceable batteries, but I wouldn't quite recommend them to anyone. Perhaps I'd change my mind if more fix-it videos come about or Ryobi starts providing more spare parts and instructions to replace parts. I am glad that when I was shopping for a shop vac, I did not go for the RHV18X and went with the DCV501LN instead.

The first one is FAR better than the second one. The 2 gallon is useful, but they're both pretty weak compared to a regular vacuum or shop vac. I have the first one and their stick vac, I use both regularly, but only for tiny messes and the filters clog way too fast.

I had the second one. Most disappointing dewalt item I've ever had, super weak and filter clogs very quickly. Dustpan and broom is better than that thing. I'd recommend the DCV501HB over that one. It's easier to handle and has decent suction. It does fill up fast, but at least it vacuums.

For me it was, couldn't even vacuum the car with it. Only good for light dust or wood chips, like your example. The DCV501HB is easier to carry around for those little clean up jobs and has the power to lightly vacuum out the car. The long stick and floor attachment puts it over the top.
