Miele - Complete C3 Brilliant

Depends on the needs. I’ve owned many premium vacs. Kirby, Rainbow, Hyla, Riccar, Sebo, Miele, and several cheaper vacs like Dyson, Shark, Kenmore, etc. This includes Riccar Tandem Air upright, Kirby Avalir, Rainbow E2 & SRX, Hyla N and EST Defender, Miele C3, Miele CX1 Blizzard, Sebo E3 and D4 Premium canisters. Canister - Miele Complete C3 Brilliant - easiest canister to use - best-filtering - most suction and airflow out of all canisters I’ve used - best-cleaning power nozzles - comes with my favorite hard floor tool - don’t have to bend over to do things with it Upright - Kirby Avalir - best-cleaning vac for carpet that I have used/ owned - highest airflow available (higher airflow = better carpet cleaning) - most aggressive power nozzle with firm brush roll - this is my heavy-hitter for maximum dirt removal from carpet - can do a ton of other things but carpet is where they shine - I do feel it does a better job cleaning than my Riccar Tandem Air did on our carpet. Water-based Filtration Vac - Rainbow E2 - when paired with the SRX PN3 v1 power nozzle, it cleans carpet very well. - like the Miele C3, it is H13-rated HEPA - parts availability is awesome - super easy to service - The Hyla is a little easier to use and pull around but it doesn’t have as much suction as the Rainbow E2.

I have “favorite” vacuums in each category of vac and for different applications. However, my absolute favorite is my Miele C3 Brilliant, and I use it in tandem with my super high capacity air purifiers to stay ahead of the dust, germs, fur, pollen, etc. Very bad allergies over here. With the Miele C3, the most frustrating thing is the top of the metal electric wand - it has a plastic rim that somehow breaks. It’s extremely common. I bought a $1500 C3 Brilliant that this happened to within a year or so, which really pissed me off. So, I bought a Sebo D4 based on reviews and techs praising the bullet-proof from head to toe with quality. I absolutely hated it. I sold I within 3 months, and tried the E3. Again, same story. I decided that the Miele C3’s benefits outweighed those of the D4 and E3, so I kept my Brilliant. The lesson I learned is that there isn’t a perfect vacuum. You can spend $4,000 on a Rainbow or Hyla and have the same issues, very easily. Why? It’s just the nature of mass-produced products. There will always be a set of drawbacks / cons you have to accept as part of the package deal. The better question is, which set of drawbacks are you more comfortable with? For me, I valued cleaning performance, comfort, ease-of-use, filtration, wanted the best-the-best that had each of those things at industry-leading levels, the number 1, and so that was Miele C3. I can say I have owned it for 5 years now, going on 6, and used it every single day for an hour for the first 3 years. No mechanical issues that have affected performance or overall function. The top of the wand is a cosmetic issue, and will not prevent the handle from staying locked into the wand. The SEB 236 has a recline lever inside of it that tends to quit working so well after some time, but again, that isn’t a big deal to me, and is the C3 is still worth owning many times over despite that. Those are really the only two flaws I can find. I have found flaws and drawbacks with every single machine I’ve owned, and I’ve owned/ repaired many of them from all price points. Overall, they really are incredibly well engineered, but Miele places priority on the motor unit, critical functions, and tolerances, and that’s where you find the Miele-level precision. They are simply tools at the end of the day, useful machines. There is one or maybe two things I’d change, but overall, I can’t find one with more power, a better power nozzle, better filtration, and is easier to use, and all of that in one package.

Well I’m only basing the 110” on my Miele because out of all the vacs I’ve used to detail cars with, it has been the best. It’s listed to have 111” of waterlift, and it has a strong pull when detailing vehicles with it. I’ve used machines that I thought had higher cfm, but didn’t perform as well. Maybe my assumption isn’t correct. Maybe they had less CFM at the hose than the Miele but I would think it would be higher. The Kirby Avalir, for example, I would think has more airflow at the hose than my Miele but it really doesn’t do very well in detail jobs. I have only found 2 vacuums with higher suction figures than my Miele C3 > the Aerus Guardian Platinum and the blue Perfect C105. They weren’t significantly higher in suction but it’s something I noted.

How often do you vacuum? We have a lot of carpet and hard flooring, a 2-story home, lots of pets, and people. I’ve tried the Sebo canisters in my home, and several Miele models. The Miele C3 won my over. It’s comfortable to use, cleaned better, and has phenomenal filtration - on par with high-end air purifiers.

I've owned/ own both and prefer the Miele **C3** for a few reasons. It has more airflow, more suction, superior filtration (H13+) available, an aggressive beater bar (Sebo's is too gentle imo), and I find it significantly easier to use. It's also a very serviceable vac, very simple to take apart for tune-ups, repair, deep-cleaning, etc. I found the Miele C3 to be a lot easier to disassemble than my E3 and D4. I can do it in 2 minutes flat with a drill.

I love the C3 models. They’re hard to beat. I wish more vacs were like them. It wish there was an upright version. Hopefully Miele will make one, at some point.

S8s are super, super easy to repair. What broke? The C3 is still available in some stores, even from Miele directly. I tried many other vacs and couldn’t find one that had the power and comfort and the S8/C3. The Guard L1 models are slightly less powerful, but still very good vacs.

Alternatively, the Sebo E3 is probably the closest thing. It doesn’t have as much power, and it isn’t available with HEPA-13 (or HEPA at all), nor is it as comfortable to use but they are very durable and well-engineered. People that don’t like them tend to not like them because of the hose, which is also a common complaint with the D4. Overall, the C3 is significantly more comfortable to use, more power, superior filtration, more aggressive carpet performance, more suitable for residential applications. If it is the motor in your S8 that died, the motors can be replaced in 2 - 5 mins. Very easy, not expensive. $130!USD is what I see that listed at.

Sebo has incredible customer service in my experience. Lenny, the corporate technician, had me ship him my Sebo X4 directly to him. He covered shipping, parts, and labor - even knowing I bought it on eBay. Granted the eBay seller was a retiring Sebo dealer who had one X4 left, in stock. Most companies would automatically disqualify it because it wasn’t purchased directly from the dealer itself. I told Lenny this, and he said as long as I could verify it was coming from the original dealer who purchased it from Sebo, that he would honor the warranty. He fixed it. $0 out of pocket except for the time, energy, gas, masking tape, etc I used packing it and taking it to the UPS store. Lenny had sent me a shipping label. I also appreciated that when I called, I spoke to someone I could hear (good reception), understand (linguistically), and made the experience very personal - not the typical over seas call center experience common in today’s world. It was impressive. I still prefer my Miele C3 as far as canister vacs are concerned, but Miele’s customer service line is hit and miss.

It’s also important to differentiate between types of HEPA. Miele’s HEPA is H13+ and almost H14. It’s very rare to find H13 in vacuum’s, as most are H11 if they even have HEPA. Rainbows also utilize H13, but aren’t the easiest bags to use if used frequently. I would definitely get a Miele Complete C3, Complete C3, Guard M1 or L1 AllFloors, one with the Parquet Twister floor-head. It significantly better than the AllTeq and FiberTeq heads, and you can get an extra-wide version of it. For rug(s), the TurboTeQ head is sufficient for low pile area rugs.

Miele Complete C3 canister, or a Sebo canister. Both are extremely well engineered. Sebo wands are more durable, but the Miele overlap has the most power, best filtration, and are known for lasting for 10 - 20 years (depending on use rate). It’s also a lot easier to use overall, lots of little things that add up. Sebo’s are commercial grade, more utilitarian, simpler, designed to be used for extended periods every day and still hold up for many, many years; but they come with some traded off drawbacks. I think the Miele canisters are the best choice for residential level cleaning (maybe twice per week for 20-30 mins each time), while the Sebo models are better for commercial level use - using it every day for 45 mins - 1+ hr). Canisters tend to be better for use floors, but both Sebo and Miele sell canisters that are exceptionally effective on carpet - rivaling premium uprights. Get the upgraded hardfloor tool with either brand you go with Sebo Premium Parquet or the Miele Parquet Twister floor head. The Miele version is a lot easier to whip around, but both are premium.

The lightest-weight upright vacs don’t do the best job, but canisters can be exceptionally effective and are the traditional choice for those that want an easy-to-push vac, have back problems, etc. They’re very handy. I used to hate using them but now they’re my preferred vac. They get under furniture, much easier to use attachments with, clean car out with, and they’re a lot better on hard floors. Miele and Sebo are the best canisters. Out of those, I recommend Miele for residential applications - specific models, though. C3 mainly, Guard L1 Electro. Either with the Parquet Twister floor head. The C3 is the best Miele, and has recently been discontinued so get one while you can. Sebo canisters are more utilitarian, simpler, slightly lower performance, but the wands are a little more durable. Still, I choose the Miele for its higher power, comfort features, and excellent filtration.

I see the appeal of a stick. I have a V15. It’s about 3 yrs old. It’s primary role is for in-between cleans, small messes. Touch-ups. But, if I am going to vac our main living areas or the entire house, I can get the job done a lot faster with my Miele. If I am going to deep clean the carpet, I don’t pre-vac with my V15. I use my Kirby. If I am going to detail a vehicle, Miele. If I am going to use attachments for deep cleaning, Miele.

Sure buddy, and the subway serves the same purpose as the shinkansen 😂😂😂 The opinions of the uninformed don't change the reality of how machines work. My parents Miele is old enough to vote, drive, and enlist, and it'll still clean better and quieter than a brand new Dyson v15. Surely better than a Samsung jet75, and I would know, I recommended my close friend get one (I like Samsung's empty station). It'll clean better than a gen5 as long as you use the vacuum for more than 10~ seconds (before the suction relief opens). I'm not even sure you know the difference between these machines from a mechanical perspective, and that's why it's so sad you're so loud and proud here. You're not American, but boy do you sound like my illiterate compatriots...

Because you seemingly require a carrot before acknowledging the stick: it's good that Samsung and LG actually make multi cyclonic machines with bag docks, as they're really trying to make cordless vacuums happen. I like the bespoke jet design a lot. And it's probably what I recommend to my friends who really want a cordless, but I'm not gonna not give them the broadest understanding of the market. I'm glad you finally have a vacuum you like: what we're all saying tho, is that if you like that, you'll surely like a Miele. It's just facts. Nobody ~wants a worse stove, oven, washing machine, computer, they take what they can get and make it work. But even teenage mobile gamers know there are greener pastures with PC gaming (for example). No shame, or anything but that's just life. My mom hates the Dyson v11 I got her because it's too heavy on the wrist (but you loud folks don't think about the elderly or differently abled). She would literally rather wheel out the Miele (because she's used to it). My dad now does the nightly kitchen sweeping (I really need to get them a robot). I flew in the face of the sun, I knew the v11 was a bad choice, but even I was tempted by the siren song of marketing and shiny cheap plastic. I'd wager it's more inconvenient to need 4 batteries and emptying the bin 15 times to clean their house once. Again you're just not thinking about the endpoints of possibility here because THIS ISNT YOUR FIELD OF INTEREST. YOURE COMING IN A SPACE OF KNOWLEDGE AND ACTING LIKE THE PRINTING PRESS IS ELITIST BECAUSE YOUR HAND DRAWN BOOK MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER. If you've never even touched a Miele, do yourself a favor and try. It's impossible to beat the look & feel of real 😎😘 I may never drive a RR but I know it's a better vehicle than anything I'll ever have, and that's okay 🤷🏾‍♂️ Using a cordless stick requires upper body strength and wrist dexterity that a canister simply does not. Folks here come asking all the time for ability friendly vacuums, and canisters (and sometimes uprights) are the best option, but you wouldn't know that because you require feeling good about your purchases on the internet, rather than requiring full context. Even when performance reviews comments here he can be helpful, and he's prince asshole here. He just genuinely has useful knowledge (under that insufferable personality). It's interesting how you keep trying to spin and rationalize this for yourself (you should try and understand how you think first before seeking new info I guess). Your Samsung jet 75 is more difficult to service and repair than even a Miele brilliant. It's worse built, performs worse, and lasts shorter. Sure it's lighter (grossly), but it can't even safely suck up flour, let alone glass or pebbles, things that regularly exist in homes. Your and cats skin is blown all over your walls and furniture. You could deep clean your whole place and then go over it with a real vacuum (like a Henry) and be disgusted. People here try to share our lives experiences and knowledge with people trying to seek answers. Nobody's gonna pat you on the back because you feel validated by your purchase of a samsung product. That's literally how the psychology of capitalism & consumerism work, you're just unaware, seemingly. All I know is, if you have pets and a bad vacuum, people come to your home despite the cleanliness, not because of it. Lol I can't believe I just stream of consciousness'ed that but it was cathartic. It's just sad you WANT to "bash" vacuum elitists. Girl my shits better than yours and you're the only one talking about it, not me. That's just the T.

Absolutely no question when you need above floor cleaning (and you do): get the canisters. You need to clean your fans, air vents, literally every horizontal surface and even every vertical surface, at least twice within 2 weeks to feel an appreciable change. Blinds, vents, mattresses, couches, cushions, molding, the backs of your TV. Literally everything needs to be vacuum dusted or washed and with the new vacuum I guarantee your place will feel like new. With regular weekly vacuuming it should be much noticeably better. You'll probably even notice a better improvement after dog groomings, as their hair will actually disappear for a little. Get the d4 for the bag size, but the e3 comes in much cuter colors and is easier to tote around. The bags are huge and the d4 especially packs it very densely. If your dogs don't particularly smell then your vacuum won't particularly smell. My Miele bag only smells when it's nearing 80% fill and I've been using it for the litter box. If I don't use it for the litter box, it quite literally doesn't smell at all. Somebody in the forum bought a d4 for their German shepherd foster home with like 6 dogs and they filled their d4 bags monthly. So you'll probably get a few months out of each, as Sebo plans for. I am a Miele fanboy as they're quieter, filter better, and feel better but the Sebo warranty is great. If you get a Miele however, the c3 Kona is the budget pick, with the Marin being a good value and the brilliant, a splurge (but fully worth it). Mieles pack their bags more densely than sebos so despite Mieles having a 1.25 gallon cap, compared to the d4 1.5 gallon, it's not much less (and the filtration is a tier above). No doubt about it, you need a canister to wrangle all the dog hair and dander that's inevitably settled in everything. Once you've done a few deep cleans, and do regular cleanings, your air will be noticeably lighter.

TL;DR: go to a Miele dealer (use their website to find one) buy the C3 homecare+ for full home cleaning, demote the Dyson to quick jobs, never look back. If you have gen5 detect money (and interest) buy the vacuum that made Dyson increase their filtration standard: a Miele. I thought it was funny Dyson did this as it retroactively pulled the facade off of their previous marketing. For the best performance on hard floors you'll want a machine with their parquet twister attachment, it's what made me fall in love with Mieles in middle school. Currently it works like a dream for my kitty and her ways. (And that original one still works for my parents 17 years later). Technically Mieles cheapest machine, the c1 classic, functions just as well on hard floors when using the same tool as their most expensive machine, the c3 brilliant. They have the same motor, use the same bags, and have the same filter media, but the c3s are MUCH quieter, fully sealed, have bigger bag compartments, and store their tools onboard. The c2 models are a happy in between. They're fully sealed, are quieter but not as quiet as the c3, and also have the onboard tools. Contemporary c2s are made in China with German motors. They're just as well built as the German plastic machines. Technically they're better built because Miele innovated on the s5000 shell which became the c2. Having taken apart both, the c2s construction is more like a brilliant than the c1 classic. As of right now, only Mieles c3s are built completely in Germany. All their bagged models use German made motors but the remainder are formed in China. All the bagless models are completely made in China. No knock against Chinese manufacturing, it's excellent obviously, but that's the T with Mieles current production chain for vacuums. I like my first gen triflex even. Because your budget is $600 (medium-high) and you have carpets, that complicates my recommendation: If you're buying a machine you should buy the one that fully encapsulates your use and use it how you like. Don't purposefully buy something that does less when you can use more, and you can afford more. No matter what you buy it'll outlive and outperform the gen 5. A straight suction Miele might even marginally outperform it on your carpets... Then, you have the Dyson Gen 5 vs the v12/15 (which tells me you care about "the best", technology, and convenience physical constraints be damned) which points me to recommend you Mieles top of line canisters: the c3 electro models (Kona, Marin, Brilliant/ homecare, homecare e, homecare +). They come standard with the electro carpet brush and the parquet twister, as well as the HEPA filter. The Marin adds some longevity and QOL electronics like a filter life timer, parking shutoff switch, and auto suction as well as the seb236, Mieles low profile and led-lit carpet brush. The Brilliant, the one I think you should get, has what the Marin has plus fingertip controls & a display. This makes switching surfaces and tools on the fly so much easier. It also kinda obviates the parking switch. You should buy them from a vacuum store, miele dealer, to get the best deal and get the homecare models with the longer warranty and more tools. From a dealer, you can likely get the Kona for $850, Marin for $1100, and brilliant for $1500, but you might have a harder time finding that brilliant deal as it kinda pads the coffers. Like I said, the c1 classic and a parquet twister will get you the same clean, but it's time to demote the Dyson and get a real vacuum as your primary. The Dyson can be used for quick runs and it'll thank you for it (by living longer than 5). Your carpets will also likely thank you for it. Ik I blew past your budget, but it really seems like you can afford it so 🤷🏾‍♂️ Sebos have better warranties, and some like them better, but they're marginally louder, less powerful, and filter less well than a Miele. And when comparing to a c3, Mieles bags & filters are cheaper in their allergy bundle. Mieles also have a better feel in hand... Which is the whole point imo. You can likely try a Sebo wherever you go to buy that Miele homecare+ 😘 so make sure to try it out too. I think Mieles parquet twister and seb236 are better than sebos articulating floor tool or et1. But that's my opinion. The fully in price recommendation for hard floors would the c3 gala or the c2 hard floor. Marginally in budget but all inclusive machine would be the c1 centennial (if you can find it for $650 and buy the parquet twister). Another option, but a little stretch is the c1 homecare with electro brush (only available from Miele dealers). Even an abused Miele will last a decade. Get the nicest one you can afford, take care of it, and have a perfectly clean home for more than 20 years. No joke. Also, your Dyson is leaving stuff in the carpets that an electro Miele will capture. Your first bag will fill fast (as does everyone's unless they already had a Miele/Sebo).

Regarding the weight: between the c1 cat & dog and the Kona/Marin/brilliant they might be one or two lbs different. The Kona & the cat & dog have the exact same floor head. The Marin and konas floor head is lower profile but probably the same weight (check that). The onboard crevice, upholstery, and dusting tools probably weigh a combined 1lb. They're roughly 20lbs give or take that carpet brush. Dare I say the simplicity of the c3s is that their tools live safely inside 😅 And I think once you try the brilliant you'll hopefully fall in love~

I'd take the opportunity to get a Miele c3 Marin or Brilliant/homecare+ at a good price. It seems like they're dropping their (very nice imo) seb236 floor head. Or you'll need the new guard l1 electro. You'll need an electro head for your needs. (So c3 cat& dog to answer your title question, but my recommendation is for the Homecare+ (or the Marin for a better value). Visit a dealer and get them for a good price (900 for the Kona, 1100 for the Marin, and under 1500 for the homecare+/brilliant). Get the homecare models from a dealer if you can. The better warranty and added tools are great.

Sebo e3 (under 900 from a dealer if you ask nicely) comes with a 10 year warranty from said sealer. Their bags & filters are a little pricey but worth it for the excellent machine. I am however a Miele fan and I do think they command their higher price. Unfortunately Miele has lowered their warranties recently from 10 to 3 😭. I believe it's 5 for the homecare models purchased in store. Definitely go to a vacuum store and test drive the Sebo e3 vs the Miele C3 like of machines. At your price I say get the Marin (or homecare e) for the increased features. You can get it for around $1200 usually from a dealer. The c3 Kona is the cheaper model at under 900, but doesn't have a headlight, auto suction, or filter timer, but works just the same. If you're buying Miele, buy the homecare model. Either Miele or Sebo will last you more than 20 years with good care. They can be repaired from just about any damage. And they'll clean better than literally any other vacuum (certainly better than anything cordless or bagless). Mieles have marginally more suction, with a higher grade of filtration, and feel better in the hand. Sebos are a little more industrial. Both are amazing but I think the Miele is just a bit better. Better enough I'd say splurge for the brilliant/homecare+ ($1500-1800) but you have to try it first. I bought my Miele used, and it's the best $300 I've spent. It's a little crunchier than my parents older miele which we bought new, but mine is a UniQ ($1500 MSRP). Those fingertip controls are SOOOOO nice 😭 There's nothing cuntier than a Miele homecare+ when it comes to cleaning 🤷🏾‍♂️ Unsaid but needs to be said: bagged canisters are the ONLY option when versatility and longevity are the goals. Edit: forgot that Mieles new guard L1 electro will be releasing soon. Basically all the same but it has an app now to tell you to change the bag. And it's a new bag, so you can be damn sure it won't be bundled cheaply with the filter. Same filter. Also no headlight on the carpet brush. Tbh I'd say use the impending release of the L1 to snatch up a deal on the miele C3 Marin (homecare e) or Brilliant (homecare+).

Well if you want a quiet vacuum, (the quietest to be specific) your option is the Miele C3. The Miele c1 is marginally louder but still quieter than a Sebo. Both are quieter than any Dyson lmao (those things are crazy loud and they don't even tune their motors to offload the whine behind our scope of hearing). The Miele c3 on max is quieter than a Dyson on normal. So the cheapest option would be the Miele c1 classic pure suction. The nicest option would be the c3 gala edition. Both are hard floor only machines, but the build quality of the c3 really speaks for itself. If you're iffy about spending so much on a Miele, try visit a local vacuum store with mieles. They'll be happy to let you try them out and Miele dealers will always sell lower than online listed MSRP. You'll also hear firsthand how much quieter they are. Technically speaking, all bagless machines will be pretty loud bc they don't have much soft padding to capture the sounds (bag, nice filter). Cordless machines overall are very loud because their motors are smaller, spinning at a higher speed to generate similar pressure, and those tiny whirring things make a huge high pitched sound, characteristic of any Dyson machine (vacuum, hairdryer, hand dryer). Combine a cordless bagless and you have the absolute worst care scenario for sound dampening. Mieles recently upped their motor rpm while reducing size, but they tune their motors such that the majority of the sound falls above the frequency of our hearing. My cat doesn't seem to hate my Miele so clearly it's not that loud ultrasonic either. Checkout rtings.com for objective measurements but lemme tell you: we've been a Miele family for about 2 decades now. I bought my mom a Dyson v11 thinking it'll be great for the kitchen but she hates it! It's loud, clunky, weak (relatively: it cant rice grains from the corners) and it needs SOOOOO much brush roll maintenance omfg. Huge waste of money tbh. It's still hung in the kitchen but I think they only use it for vacuuming the stairs now (with the electro tool). The Miele canister is obviously better for our cars too. Nowadays, I think the avg active home only needs a bagged corded vacuum, and a robot. There's very little place for cordlesses imo ESPECIALLY as EVs now have power outlets that allow the use of a normal vacuum.. (I have one and my partner still uses it more than I do, but we wouldn't be in need without one. I only bought it bc I found it for a steal not because I wanted a cordless).

Long story short: no. Mostly because of cordless, as that mostly scuttles your requirement for asthma care. Most cordlesses are bagless, and one trip emptying that bin and it's game over for your bronchioles depending how bad the asthma is. There's basically only one bagged cordless (Henry quick, so check that out, but it doesn't stand) but it's not really meant for primary use. The Miele cordlesses (triflex), are great for what they are (bagless and cordless) and they stand up, have swappable batteries and work well. Their filtration/dust sequestration will always be worse than a bagged. I love my triflex but I also use it maybe once a month or less because of my corded, bagged Miele. I understand you don't want to compromise but what you describe is impossible with how our technology works rn, just like fusion, solid state batteries, or SC power lines, the technology is not there, and even worse than those technologies I listed, very few are working on what you want. You can get everything you want if you accept a cord or accept dirtier air with a bagless. If cost really isn't an issue then I'd say buy a corded bagged vacuum (not the shark rocket, it's generous to call that a real vacuum) and get a robot for daily maintenance. That's probably the best of both worlds as you don't have to compromise on clean or a cord, you just need two devices to meet your needs. If you've never used a cord reel I'd suggest trying it as well. My robot is absolutely the hardest working member of my household, so maybe a robot is what you're looking for? Good luck! But what you're looking for doesn't exist, unfortunately. And because I'm that girl: the only consumer vacuum in existence that's fully HEPA certified is the Miele c3 with their HEPA filter installed, so make of that what you will. That means not only is its filter hepa, but the machine is fully sealed and certified through testing to not allow more than 99.95% of particles smaller than 2.5 microns through. If you want the best clean available, especially noticeable to asthmatics, a Miele c3 is the only answer. Edit: my personal cleaning peeve is running wheeled things over hard floors, which is extra why im recommending the Miele c3. It's just so grating and demoralizing to hear those damn wheels every fkn pass. And no power/motor head will be as nimble as an articulated hard floor tool. If your space is hard floors, you actually have it a bit easier, as carpets make vacuums more expensive. And getting Miele or Sebos cheapest will still suit your needs. I know i said triflex comes close to what you want, but misses asthma care. I say get a bagged c3 and miss out on cordless but actually have a clean home with a machine that'll last a lifetime and work like new until the day it dies (which may be never with care). My skin is crawling thinking about running my triflex all over my hard floors.

I don’t even understand how there are still BIFL vacuum threads when Miele exists. You do any searching at all and Miele is the answer. I got my Miele in 2016 and it’s pretty much exactly the same now as the day I bought it. I replaced one of the attachments, because I wanted to level up from nylon brushes to horsehair brushes. Otherwise it’s perfect. Hot tip, I bought mine at the very end of the year after Christmas and they were having a big sale. It was a long time ago so idk if they still have end of the year sales, but worth looking out for one. I also at some point bought the extra long skinny nozzle attachment which has been handy.

I have the model that can use a hepa filter and has the electric head, not just the non-powered brush head. Without the electric head, I don’t think it would be very effective on carpets. The non powered brush is great for my wood floors. The electric head has no issues on carpet and I have long hair (I try to contain my shedding though, if I have a loose hair, I try to put it in the trash). The electric head has 5 settings of how high off the floor you want the brush, and the canister has multiple levels of suction, so you can do pretty much any surface from carpet all the way down to curtains and upholstery. Honestly I remember growing up with my parents’ mediocre vacuums and having hair get wrapped around the roller brush all the time and having be a huge pain in the ass to clean? The Miele seems to have no issues at all. I can’t even really remember ever having to unstick long hair, though maybe I have once or twice. Their instructional videos really emphasize going slow enough to rely on the suction to loosen and pick stuff up. And it is really good. However, I don’t have pets so can’t speak to how that changes things. When I bought it, I remember them saying it was designed to last for a minimum of one (or two?)hour of vacuuming per week for 20 years. Also, it has a pedal you tap with your foot to automatically retract the cord and it is an amazing feature. I just remember how much I loathed to wrap the stupid long ass cord of my parents vacuum. The cord retractor is dope af, makes it all feel like much less of a chore. ETA: Mine is also the mid-range, and when I bought it, it was advertised as being a little more compact than their full sized ones, which it is and I love it. Perfect for an apartment or if you don’t have enough storage space, and it’s easy to move around.

This is bad information. Yes, kenmore doesn't go through small shops, but this also limits the serviceability of their products. Kenmore vacuums are built "ok", but they have lots of problems with those non handgrip swivel, wire reinforced hoses. Not having a swivel at the handle is bad for the electronics. Connections / fittings are also sub par. And a lot kenmores have poor filtration because the Hepa filter doesn't make a good seal against the housing. I've tested the filtration with an IQ particle scanner. Also, kenmore vacuums consume more wattage - hence the higher motor wattage, but do they clean better - no! On air flow monitors, they pull the same as C3 Miele. Miele and Sebo vacuums are much more efficient. Miele and sebo vacuums also move around better. Yes, they vacuum fine and have good motors, and are better than a dyson, bissel, shark, etc, but a Sebo E3 / D4 premium, or a Miele C3 with the SEB 236 powerhead is SUPERIOUR! Also, if you're about volume sales, you can't make a high quality product. Something has to give. To get volume sales you have to price point, that means quality has to give.

"Conveniently ignores when kenmore got panasonic to mess with the hose wiring so that the new hoses wouldn't work on the old unit". They literally did that to make people buy new vacuums. Terrible. It literally has the same round fitting - like didn't improve the fitting quality at all - just messed with the wiring which improved nothing. Also, Miele had a grand total of 2 hoses that had issues. Funny enough, 1 of those 2 hoses was the hose that did not have a swivel at the hand grip end. Other than that, all of their other hoses last years and years (electric and non electric). I see way more kenmores with bad hoses, and not just them, all brands that have no swivel at the handle end have wiring problems. There is torque at that handle connection and something wants to give when it doesn't swivel and gets yanked while vacuuming. If you prefer using it, that's fine. But vacuums like that are part of reason stick vacuums are so popular. Most people do not like using those kenmores. That's just a straight fact. I'm not mad at all I can't sell them - because I sell people who do have them Miele's and Sebo's quite frequently. And hey if you wanna say the kenmore is built just as well, well you do you, but they aren't. The definition of a Kenmore vacuum is a cheaper vacuum that vacuums well, but subpar filtration and ok build quality, but limited serviceability. It's basically a "I can't afford a Miele or a Sebo, so what's next." There's nothing wrong with that, but it's just wrong to say it's better. I'm personally ok with loosing the sale to one if someone just can't afford the Miele or the Sebo. I'm just gonna end up with more problems anyways if I sold them a kenmore. And most people end up coming back anyways. Could Miele put a bigger motor in their vacuums? I mean I guess they could but why (unless EU regulations are in the way)? A bigger motor would be redundant to what's currently in it. It would make no difference. It has no problem doing what it needs to do. And again, on airflow monitors they literally pull the same as higher wattage kenmore motors in Canada. And wattage is just how much power a motor consumes - It doesn't actually translate into how much cleaning power it has, or how well the rest of the vacuum is designed. You can call me a liar if you want, I don't really care because I know what I'm talking about, and I don't care about what the brand name of something is, I just care on how it works.

Find a C2 or C3 model with the SBB 300-3 floor brush. Nothing will clean floors better than that. The newer version of the C2 is the Guard S1. The newer version of the C3 is the Guard M1. The Guard L1 is an entirely new vacuum, and is meant to be a lighter version of the C3 / M1, but the L1 has a smaller bag. Edit: they all filter really really well and are sealed systems, and if you add on the HA50 hepa filter (make sure it’s the genuine one from Miele as it’s H13 hepa) it’s top notch. Edit 2: the compact C1 is a also good choice, just NOT the Classic C1 (also known as S2 which is the older version).

The D4 moves really well, but yes is a larger vacuum. I have a 525 squr foot apartment and own a D4 cause YOLO. The Miele vacs like the C2, C3, Guard S1, M1, L1 will overall be lighter and easier to use. The D4 is essentially a powerhouse vacuum. The mentioned miele's will have the same airflow but in a smaller package. Miele's new equivalent to the D4 is the L1 or M1 / C3 Series. Edit: My recommendation would be the Miele if you're worried about the weight of the canister. The D4 is by no means bad that way, and I would 100% argue it's easier to use than some other brands like kenmore, etc, but the Miele's will be easier to use as far as the canister goes and may be more encouraging that way. Just make sure to get the RIGHT ATTACHMENTS!

For Miele, it’s would be a C3 series, or Guard L1 with an electric powerhead and good floor brush. Add the HA50 H13 Hepa filter if you want the best filtering vacuum in the world. For Sebo, the K3 is under $1000, but the more powerful models are E3 or D4 premium with the ET-1 powerhead (best powerhead in the world). This time of year being that sales are more likely to start popping up, a Sebo dealer will happily give a deal on each model to get within or closer to your budget. If you want uprights, Sebo X4 or Felix, or a top model riccar (riccar will have a bit more power, but I’d personally chose the X4 or Felix).

All 3 are excellent. You really can’t do wrong between the 3. Personally I’d place more weight on the price, warranty etc between the two brands. It’s splitting hairs (see what I did there?) but I’d rank them 236, et-1, 228 in the order of cleaning performance alone. Like I said, they’re all great I don’t think there is a “right” or wrong answer here. The removable brush is a huge plus for Sebo. But IMO the Miele cleans better. However the Miele’s are not user serviceable. Also know that while I think the 236 cleans the best (by a narrow margin) it does have this awkward belt placement where it leaves a path of uncleaned carpet about 3/4 off to the side. I use that as a guide on how much to overlap but some people find it annoying.

The old ones yes do last more than a couple years. However, New sharks are an absolute joke. Disposable. A well built machine likely won’t have any issues in the first place, but if they do it’s easily repaired. For example I’ve had my Miele C3 for almost a decade and have had 0 issues with it. It will likely last another decade or longer before I give it to my kids or family. What’s your budget and flooring like?

I have one for quick messes and love it. It’s the perfect pair to my C3 (thanks to performance reviews for the tip) I believe both those models have the powered attachment point. It’s when it’s called the S194 is when you need to do your due diligence. Worst case, as for a picture of the attachment point. It’s easy to see if it’s electrified or not.

My Miele canister HEPA vacuum has lasted me thru 3 Labs so far and it is still running great. Yea it is expensive but this is "last forever" kind of vacuum. If you have rugs get the rug attachment head that is motorized (as opposed to the rug attachment where the brush spins based solely on suction). I have had this vacuum now for 18 yrs.

Even if you pay more for the stick, still buy the Miele. :-) I have a Miele HEPA canister and a Dyson V12, with a total cost of about $1000 (on sale). They are more than worth it.

I too vote for having both. My housecleaner uses my Miele HEPA canister to do a deeper clean of all the floors and to vacuum upholstery, baseboards, etc. I use a Dyson V12 ($450 on sale) for quick cleanups on my hard surface floors in between house cleaner visits - basically, what you would use a broom for in the old days. Plus, I use it as a hand vac. Tbh, I also have a second cordless I use for quick vacuums of my carpeted bedrooms in between housecleaner visits. And, a shop vac for the unfinished basement and screened in porch. It might seem extravagant to have paid almost $1500 for this four-vacuum collection. But, I expect them to last me many years, and they keep my house a lot cleaner with less work! Plus, I save money on housecleaning as these vacuums allow me to go longer between cleaning visits. Four less housecleaner visits a year saves $900, so they have already paid for themselves.

I have serious allergies and have a Miele canister HEPA vac (it’s not “bag vs. canister”, canister is a form factor for vacs). I have a version with the electro brush which is needed for carpet - if you don’t have carpet, you don’t need it. It is a true sealed system with a HEPA filter. I didn’t know it was possible to feel this strongly about a vacuum, truly - but I love my Miele. It’s great for vacuuming furniture and everything else you can think of, as there are lots of attachments and it has adjustable suction. Due to my allergies I vacuum just about everything with it.

Sorry to be unclear! I didn’t give the model name because I got a special issue vacuum that isn’t available anymore. But, the two key factors for the Miele models are: 1) Do you need an electrobrush or not (yes if you have carpet or think you might in the future, no otherwise); and is it a HEPA filtered or not. Mine has both. Both of these factors make the vacuum more expensive. HEPA is optional on some of their models IIRC. MIne does not have all the premium bells and whistles like a lighted electrobrush and onboard accessories, as I didn’t feel these were essential to me and I was trying to keep costs down. I think I paid about $550.

Bagged vacuums are needed if you have significant allergies. Once I’ve removed something from my home, I don’t want to have to breath it again when I empty the vacuum canister. I actually have three - a bagged, corded canister (Miele), for deeper cleaning; a bagged cordless (Hoover OnePower) for quick pickups on carpet; and a bagless cordless (Dyson V12) for quick pickups on hard surfaces. This seems to keep my house the cleanest. IMO the Dyson doesn’t have enough suction power for carpet even for quick pickups.

I would say that anyone whose allergies are significant enough that they are concerned about them would benefit from a bagged vacuum with good sealing and a HEPA filter, that also does well at deep cleaning not only floors but upholstery, curtains etc. That’s why I have my Miele. If they are not concerned, they can use whatever vacuum they want. I’ve had people on this sub say they think allergens don’t go into the air when you empty out a bagless vacuum. If someone like that has allergies but prefers a bagless that doesn’t do a good job on carpet, it’s their life.

holy shit god bless you for this lol this is so inside baseball but so great to have omg. have an organization I’m working with trying to figure out a vacuum situation and they’re so sold on the gm80 (obvi great and what I trained with but $$$$ I think someone else sold them on it… rightfully so but it’s just so pricy) but the cost of the museum/rheostat models is obviously so steep it makes me insane. i get sooo frustrated w/ the state of info on this sort of thing– have genuinely always suspected that there’s a lot of opportunity for DIYing this particular aspect (there’s enough crossover with like, dust extractors&some aspects of cnc routing vac/dust remover things that people have had to diy) but obviously the field is so small & “quiet” that it’s been hard to find resources. for OP- i *have* used variable speed Miele vacs with HEPA filters on the “curtains”/drapery settings on some pretty delicate stuff w/ cheesecloth and muslin to dampen and it’s worked fine. also hear decent things about HEPA filter variable speed dust extractors by Festool– they are very well respected/truly Loved in non museum contexts & i know some conservators that use them!! but haven’t been able to personally try them out yet

Sebo’s are originally made for commercial usage they can be used for household cleaning. Miele’s are made for household in Europe they are the Mercedes of vacuums. They have features to make them more user friendly my C3 has built in tools under a special hood, touch powersettings with symbol, tools are more refined and the machine it self is nicer to look at in case you can’t store them in a cupboard or closet! Thats why I prefer Miele when using it in my home it doesnt feel like the vacuum operates me but I am in control of vacuuming with it following behind me. And in case I have sudden visitors at the front door i’m not like get that clunky ugly machine out of the room😂😅 so it’s more user prefference at the end of the day they both get the jobs done for years to come

Buying them can be a little confusing because there are lots of different models, heads, etc. But as long as you get one with a power head for carpets, you probably won’t be disappointed. We have very little carpet in our house so I bought the model that Costco was selling (no power head). It’s been perfect.
