SEBO - DART

With Sebo I’ll just say, if one wants an upright, spend the extra and get the Felix over the Dart. I got a dart and have spent more than the difference on the parts that come with the Felix. For the time the vacuum will last, the difference is worth it. 

I like to add, SEBO is another great option. One can be more available than the other depending on location. Big thing is bagged vacuums are just better. Everyone switching to bagless was just a straight downgrade. 

It’s one of those but once cry once things. A Miele or SEBO will last much longer and do a better job than a cheaper option.  It pays for itself in not having to replace it in a couple years. 

Look to corded and bagged. They’re the gold standard. If you prefer an upright a Sebo dart or Felix is excellent. So is a Sebo K3 or E3 or Miele C1 cat and dog. All of these are at the top end of your budget and beyond. But if you want something that will last years and years (decade or two) these are well worth the price. IMO your best bet is to find a local Miele/Sebo dealer and take the above for a test drive before you buy.

Absolutely. Dyson is junk. For not much more you could have a BIFL Sebo dart.

Agreed with the other commenter. Skip bagless they are all junk. Sebo dart is my favorite it’s ~$550 or so and will last you 20 years or so. Well worth it.

Yes absolutely corded and bagged is the way to go. Sebo dart is a great option especially if being too rough is a concern as it has an optional “soft” brushroll you can swap out easily.

Simplicity allergy, Kenmore elite upright, Sebo dart. If you can flex your budget the dart is an excellent option.

Honestly both of those are not great options. Take a look around the sub. Dyson and Shark are generally bad vacuums with flashy marketing and 0 longevity or cleaning ability. Sebo dart should be at the top of your list. See if you have a local Sebo dealer and take it for a test drive. Even with a high shedding dog you won’t go through bags nearly as quick as you might think. Bagged machines **compress** the fur. Where as bagless fluffs it up.

It should be $549 but worth every penny of the 10% overage. For your flooring I really wouldn’t recommend much else. It’s a BIFL workhorse that should last you 20+ years with proper care.

Fwiw that vacuum will last you 20 years most likely. Yes it’s a lot upfront. But it’s worth it in the long run imo. I learned this the hard way after burning through 2 sharks and 2 Dysons over the course of ~6 years and well over $1k. Also “self cleaning” or “anti-tangle” is mostly marketing garbage. The simplicity is still a great unit for the price. See if you have a local dealer that sells simplicity. You can take it for a test drive first before buying.

If it’s very low pile carpeting **maybe** (think commercial carpeting). If it’s standard house plush carpeting, no it won’t cut it. ideally you would want an electric powerhead. You could do a simplicity allergy or Sebo dart if budget allows.

Sharks have definitely gone down hill. You’ll be lucky to get 5 years out of a new one. Think of it this way, a bagged will perform better and last longer than any bagless. Depending on the model you’ll only go through 3-5 bags per year. Thats a small price to pay for a vacuum that won’t end up in a landfill like a modern bagless. Imo if you can swing the extra ~$150 a Sebo dart would be excellent and last you many decades.

Dysons are disliked around here for a few reasons 1) Because they have had a monumental fall from grace, check out some horror stories on r/dyson. Literal extortion and stealing from their customer service team. Not to mention the quality of products has also taken a nosedive in the last ~3-5 years or so 2) Not specific to Dyson but cordless/bagless vacuums in general were never intended for whole home cleaning. Really just quick spot messes and pickups. 3) They’re not designed to last, in fact the opposite. Planned obsolescence plays a heavy hand in Dyson’s business model. When something breaks, the entire unit goes in the trash. They don’t support with parts anymore. 4) For what they are and how they perform, they just **cost too damn much**. Ideally you’ll want a corded and bagged primary vacuum for weekly deep cleans. Then a cordless/bagless stick for quick daily messes. I’d check out a Sebo dart or Miele C1 cat and dog for your primary vacuum. Both of these will last you around 20 years with proper care. Plus if something breaks you can actually fix it. I also think you’ll notice a big difference in allergies with a bagged machine. Emptying the Dyson re-releases millions of particles back into the air (if the gaskets aren’t already leaking). Keep your current Dyson for quick messes if it’s still usable.

If you can bump your budget - a Sebo dart would be fantastic. Otherwise. Kenmore 600 series or Kenmore intuition BU4050. You want something corded **and bagged**

For that budget grab a Sebo dart or Miele C1 Cat and Dog and don’t think twice. Both are excellent options it just depends on your form factor preference.

For one that lasts and carpet focused - Sebo Dart

Probably not available through Lowe’s. But the Miele C1 Cat and Dog routinely goes on sale for around your top budget and checks all your boxes. That would be my pick for sure. If you prefer an upright, Sebo dart which is right on budget too. Keep the cordless stick for quick daily messes. Use the corded/bagged machine for weekly deep cleans.

Oh nice I didn’t know Lowe’s sold them. Yes that model. The bad reviews on lowes’ website have no text so I’ll assume they’re fake/not legit. Take a look around this sub, it’s an excellent machine. A lot of the negative reviews on Amazon for this model are complaining about the canister form factor, not the vacuums itself. For mostly hard floor a canister is ideal, but if you prefer an upright check out the Sebo’s.

Regardless of what marketing departments try to sell us - What you’re looking for is 3 separate pieces of equipment. 1) Dry, corded and bagged primary vacuum for weekly deep clean: Miele C1 Cat and Dog, Miele C3 Homecare, Sebo K3, dart/felix, e3 2) Cordless/bagless stick for quick daily messes: LG A9 or Bissell airram 3) The gold standard for wet cleaning: A good old mop and bucket. The combo machines are a joke and will be in the trash within a year or two. Put the blinders on, ignore the marketing hype, go with what is tried and true.

Sebo D4, Miele C3 Homecare, Sebo E3, Sebo K3, Sebo Dart/felix No particular order. You’ll notice these are all corded and bagged which is the gold standard.

1 vacuum can definitely handle all flooring types. It’s going to be corded and bagged. Check out: Miele C1 cat and dog, Miele C3 Homecare, Sebo K3/E3/dart/felix IMO find a local Miele/Sebo dealer and take the above for a test drive. Depending on which model you pick, you’d have enough budget for a quick daily mess cordless vacuum and keep the corded vac for weekly deep cleans. That’s the best setup imo.

Vacuum wars is a paid shark shill and not to be trusted. Hell Chris even appeared in a shark commercial. BIFL vacuums absolutely exist. They’re corded and bagged made by brands like Miele and Sebo.

Once you get used to it, you’ll love a canister. The Sebo e3 is excellent if you can stretch your budget a little. If not, the Felix or dart are great choices for upright and if you buy from a dealer, you get a 10 year warranty. 

I just got Sebo Dart for my low pile wall to wall carpet and I’m happy with it. It’s a bit heavy if you try to lift it with one hand, so I just roll it around instead and lift with two hands if I have to. If my budget was higher, I would’ve gone for Sebo Felix, which is the premium version of Dart, it swivels and has suction adjustment. After the first pass I had a full brush roll of hair. Removed the brush roll, took the hair off, popped it back in, everything was seamless.

Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and Home Depot usually don't have any quality vacuums in-store. I think it's well worth waiting a few days for a much better vacuum to be delivered. It's powerful and quieter than the average vacuum. But it's top heavy and the hose is short.

The Sebo Dart is a great vacuum for carpets and the brushroll is removable without any tools to make removing hair wrap easier and faster. The suction is very strong and it's quieter than the average vacuum, but not as quiet as the best canisters. Just about any corded vacuum will clean carpets better than a cordless vacuum. The downsides of the Dart & Felix are they are top heavy, they have a short hose, and they don't include an extension wand. Alternatives all have tradeoffs. The Kenmore Elite upright is much cheaper usually around $250-300, it has great suction and carpet cleaning, but it's heavy and you need a screwdriver to remove the brushroll. The Kenmore isn't as well-built, and it won't last as long. The Riccar R25 and R27 are good upright vacuums too, the R25 Standard and R25 Deluxe can be $449 & $499. The Riccar R25 has a long hose and good suction, but it isn't as well-built or as easy to maintain as a Sebo Dart. I think the Sebo Dart is the best balance of durability with a few tradeoffs of a few less features.

The Hepa exhaust filter is a Hepa filter placed after the motor. It’s the final filtration and it also catches carbon dust from the motor. Rarely a few vacuums have the Hepa filter before the motor and some only have a basic filter after the motor. All 3 I listed have a good exhaust filter/post motor filter. The Kenmore Elite is a good budget choice. There’s the Riccar R25S that’s a decent choice but they start at $499 and at that price the Sebo Dart $550 is a much better vacuum.

All Sebos have S-Class filters which are really good and nearly Hepa. The Sebo Dart and Felix do not have Hepa filters. There are a few Sebo models, such as the K3 and X7, that have optional Hepa filters.

What's your budget? For a mix of hard floors and carpet you'll want a vacuum with a spinning brushroll for the carpets and brushroll shutoff or a hard floor brush for the wood. Hepa bags are better filters and bagged vacuums last longer. Riccar R25 Standard $500 and Riccar R25 Deluxe $600 are uprights that can do carpet and hard floors and the hose is pretty long. Sebo Dart $550 and Sebo Felix $700 are really durable and long lasting upright vacuums. The Dart is capable the Felix adds swivel steering and the Premium Parquet Brush. Sebos come with a 10-year warranty from authorized dealers. Miele Classic C1 Cat & Dog $631 are a very high quality and quiet canister vacuum with a powerhead and hard floor brush. Zero G $679 is another very good canister vacuum that hovers on its own exhaust. It comes with a ton of accessories. Among these the Sebo Dart and Sebo Felix are very easy to use and the most durable and repairable. There are cheaper vacuums like the Kenmore 31140 Elite $250 and Kenmore 600 Series Canister $330 that are very capable on carpets. They're not as manueverable on hard floors and they won't last as long as any of the four above choices. Under $200 vacuums last 2-3 years. Cordless vacuums have batteries that wear out in a couple years even from expensive brands. What do you think?

Since you have mostly carpets it doesn't make sense to keep the Miele C1 Turbo which is for mostly hard floors and minimal rugs. If you want to be able to clean both carpets and hard floors the vacuum needs a powerhead for carpets and brushroll shutoff or a hard floor brush for hard floors. Low price option is the Kenmore 31140/Elite Upright $250. Strong suction, carpet height adjustment, and brushroll shutoff. Downsides are that it's heavy and you need a screwdriver to get to the brushroll to remove hair. Mid price option: Sebo Dart/Sebo Felix $549/$699. These are very durable upright vacuums with carpet height adjustment and brushroll shutoff. The Felix adds swivel steering on the carpet powerhead and a dedicated hard floor brush that also swivels. Downsides are a short hose and they're kinda top heavy. High price options: Sebo K3 $849 and Sebo E3 $1049. These are very durable canister vacuums with carpet powerheads and dedicated hard floor brushes. Canister vacuums have long flexible hoses that you don't have to stretch out like on an upright. Downsides are the higher price and some people don't like how they move. The Sebos are very durable, easy to repair, and their brushroll pops out without any tools for faster cleaning.

You are correct that Sharks break quickly and then they aren't repairable. Some people get lucky and their Sharks last a while but when those break they are still unrepairable. Bissell has a lot of bagless vacuums that aren't any better than Shark except Bisell sells replacement belts and brushrolls. Then Bissell has some bagged and commercial vacuums that are better but many don't have brushroll shutoff until you get to some of the more expensive ones. For carpet and tile you want a spinning brushrol with the ability to turn it off. The Simplicity Allergy Upright S20EZM $250-280 comes to mind, it will be good on carpets but the brushroll doesn't shutoff so it's isn't the best for hard floors. The Kenmore Elite Upright $250-300 is a powerful upright for carpets with brushroll shutoff for hard floors, but it's a heavier vacuum. The Lavex 15" Dual Motor Upright $269 is a ProTeam ProForce XP1500 clone. The Lavex is a commercial upright vacuum with a carpet powerhead and brushroll shutoff for hard floors. The long cord is nice but a 50 ft. cord can get heavy. It's a pigtail connection so you could swap a shorter 30 ft. extension cord on it to lighten the vacuum. I hear they don't last as long as a ProTeam but it's also half the cost. The Prolux 9000 Upright $324 is a little over but also a tempting option. It's a durable upright with brushroll shutoff. Nothing really ground breaking. Ideally I'd want a Sebo Dart $549 but they are more expensive. They're a great option if you want the longest lasting, easy to repair, and popout brushroll for easy hair removal. What do you think?

No problem, there’s a lot of confusing Miele names. The C3 Excellence is good for hard floors and regular carpets/rugs but it has a smaller powerhead that can get clogged up by long hair. It also doesn’t have carpet height adjustment so it’s not good for high pile or plush carpets. It is wired so you can add a different carpet powerhead. For the same price you can get a Sebo Felix if you prefer an upright vacuum.

I've learned that I prefer to buy a quality tool as soon as I can afford it so I can enjoy using it longer. Definitely get a replacement battery for your Dyson because a cordless vacuum is still very convenient. I'm a bit hesitant to recommend the Miele C3 Excellence because with its included powerhead, it won't do as well on higher pile rugs/carpets, and it isn't good with long hair. Miele has discontinuing the C1 and C3 Series and has replaced them with the Guard S1, M1, & L1 and the prices have increased. Parts for the C3 Series should be easily available for many years to come. If you are used to an upright check out the Sebo Felix Dart and Sebo Felix Premium $549/699 CAD. They have a wider carpet powerhead than the C3 Excellence and they have carpet height adjustment. They both can clean carpets and hard floors. The Felix Premium adds swivel steering and comes with an additional dedicated hard floor brush. They are kinda top heavy and have a short built-in hose. If you want a canister vacuum with more floor flexibility than the C3 Excellence, check out the Sebo K3 Premium $899 and Sebo E3 Premium $999. They have the same full-size powerhead as the Sebo Felix. They are more expensive than the Felix because of the extra parts required. If you can find a Sebo Dealer, try all of these vacuums in person.

I bagged vacuum is definitely the way to go for pet allergies! I made the switch about three months ago and I can really tell the difference in my home.  I have heard that the Sebo upright models are the best for pet hair, but I personally didn’t have $1000+ for a vacuum. I’ve been really happy so far. 

Look for a dealer to look at a Sebo Dart and get a bagged vacuum for the fur and deep clean of the carpets. Plus it comes with a 10 year warranty when bought through a local dealer

Are you in your forever home? If so you could get the Sebo E2 Turbo canister or if you prefer uprights you could do either the Sebo Dart or Sebo Felix (Dart is more in your budget) but those two options would also be future proof if you end up moving to somewhere with wall to wall carpet. Any Sebo model would be buy it for life scenario. There are multiple options but I would say see if you have a local dealer near you or you can at least see the models on our website Vacuumconcepts.com

I would say Sebo is your best option. For uprights Felix or for canisters I would look at the E3 or D4. The D4 gives you the longest cord and biggest bag but if you can go to a shop and try them all out before purchasing so that you know you love it!

Go for a Sebo Felix or Dart then. They're awesome uprights.

I’m the SEBO all the models they make you push a button in the brush roll will pop out, and of course, a plug-in is going to be twice as powerful as any cordless, and the fact it takes a bag makes for easy dirt disposal, and a lot cleaner air

Must be the manual adjustment SEBO, the automatic does not seem to have that issue, if it is raise it up a notch

They are having issues with their new SEB O and they are upset, these things are very rare, but they do happen

Sebo Dart would be high on my list. The feature list is trimmed down from the SEBO Felix. It has on/off versus variable speed control, the handle height is not adjustable and the power head does not twist/flex left and right. The cord is 30' and the brush roll can easily be removed and washed. The power head works well on bare floors and you can add the premium parquet. Commercial variants are available from Karcher and Windsor. Sebos are designed to be repaired and come with good warranty.
