"The WiFi performance on my BE550 is abysmal. ... It’s in the same exact spot where my aged VR2100 was, and that’s a 7 plus years old router that never costed anywhere near £200, on discount. ... The VR2100 has no problems providing solid 5GHz in our master bedroom, whilst the BE550 has no 5GHz at all in the same spot I sleep."

"I literally cant get a signal anywhere outside that room. ... whats the deal with the signal not traveling farther than 15 ft on either band on both the stock firmware and 24.10.0 with power set to the max?"

"As a be550 owner the 6ghz band is a hit or a miss. ... It frequently isn't found by my quest 3. ... It's not a bad router by any means but the 6ghz often just disappears. ... So I end up running things at 5ghz anyway."

"I find that using the cable and doing the debug tool override to like 950mbit on H264 gives me the least amount of compression artifacts - so I am using the wifi and VD for other games, and link cable for DCS."

Internet connection speed has nothing to do with your PCVR streaming experience. You can use it with dialup or even without internet (VD requires internet though, but it's only for DRM check so internet speed is irrelevant unless you are playing an online game). Quest 3 doesn't support Wifi 7 (only Wifi 6E), so picking a Wifi 7 would be more for future proofing. Wifi 6E and Wifi 6 should perform similarly in ideal conditions. However Wifi 6E is better in case there is already a bunch of 5Ghz networks in your area. That's because Wifi 6E can use the 6Ghz band which is very unlikely to have congestion since very few people currently use this band on their wifi networks. Puppis S1 is a Wifi 6 router that is known to work well and should have an easier setup than a normal router. However, you should only pick it if your have at least two USB ports available on your computer (one of them needs to be USB 3), and if your PC will sit in the same room of your play area (passing two long USB cables between rooms is not something feasible depending on the distance unlike with an ethernet cable). If you decide to get something other than the Puppis, then I highly recommend you first check on the [Virtual Desktop Discord channel](https://discord.gg/C9uUXQZu) to see if someone already tested with the specific model of router that you are choosing. If you just want to get something that is already well tested by the VD community, then this list is straight from their discord channel: >High End (AXE) - TP-Link AXE300/AXE16000 ($450 US) High End (AX) - Asus RT-AX86U ($300 US) Dedicated (AXE 6E) - Davolink 'Kevin' Minion 6E ($129 US) Dedicated (Wifi 7) - TP-Link BE9300/BE550 ($200-$300 US) Dedicated (AXE) - TP-Link Archer AXE75/AXE5400 ($160-$200 US) Dedicated (AX) - GL.iNet Beryl GL-MT3000 ($90 US) Dedicated (AX) - PRISMXR Puppis S1 (80$ US) Low End (AC) - GL.iNet Opal GL-SFT1200 ($50 US) Low End (AC) - TP-Link Archer C6 or A6 ($40 US) \* *You should only pick one of the High End routers in this list if you decide to upgrade your main router instead of using a dedicated one for PCVR streaming. Picking any of them as a dedicated router is a waste of money.*

r/virtualrealityIs there a good WiFi extender for VR?

Yeah like other people have said, don't get an extender. It probably would be a bit of a nightmare trying to stream VR over an extended Wifi network. Get a PrismXR Puppis S1. They're cheap and you'll have as-good-as-it-gets VR over Wifi.

You don't need 6E for this, you won't be anywhere near the bandwidth limit of 6 streaming AV1 or any other codec.  I spent a huge amount of time and money trying to find the best VR router for Quest 3 and PCVR. I was fixated on getting one with a 6Ghz band and it was a huge waste of time. It simply doesn't matter for this use case.  100% get the Puppis S1 recommended in another comment. It easily handles 200mbps AV1 and has no weird latency spikes or other issues that every other router/AP I tried did.

I'm not saying AV1 is the best codec, just saying that router can easily handle the bitrate. 6ghz can indeed be good in high congestion areas, however I found the Quest 3 to be really finicky with picking it up and staying on it. It seems a lot happier on 5ghz. 6ghz is also easily obstructed. I found even a chair or a person breaking line of sight with the 6ghz AP could cause issues with the signal, and in VR you notice the tiniest hitches. No such issues with 5ghz. The only device I found that "just worked" was the Puppis. I spent like a year trying to find a stutter free VR experience, it was a saga 😅 Take the advice or leave it, I don't really care, but I'm hoping to save folks some money and headaches by recommending the best tool for the job for the vast majority of people.

r/virtualrealityIs 6E wifi router really only way to go wireless PCVR?

A PrismXR Puppis S1 is great too Edit: didn't read all the post haha. But for me it's great since I dont usually have router connected so every time i had to take ethernet out of back of pc and connect the router and another cable back to pc. It was a hassle. Puppis solves it being plug and play.

I would say you want a 6e router. Put that in the room with your pc and headset. And you don't need to wire it to your main router, just to your pc. It's basically like a giant dongle that uses the fact that Wifi 6e sends a lot of data. 6e can't go through walls very well, so make sure headset and pc are in the same room, and it's not like an L shaped room with a corner blocking it or something. There's lots of youtube videos on setting it up. Also use virtual desktop, it's worth the little cost. Steam link is also okay and getting better. Air link or meta link or facebook brain blast or whatever they are called are not worth your time. Puppis S1 is also a great option. But 6e routers really are nice. If you get one of those make sure you set it up to have a 6ghz channel, and use that for the headset and have NOTHING else on that wifi channel. Heres the router list from the virtual desktop discord. I use the AXE75 cause it was discounted whenever I got it. I think spent like 80 bucks on it? Might have been used. I see one for 110 bucks on amazon right now. Ebay might work too, I'd bet you can find people selling them. I doubt used vs new matters much as long as it works. Heres a list of some others from the discord... yes one of those is literally a minion... yes it's the cheapest wifi 6e router that works well... > Community Tested Routers > The following routers have been reported to work reliably from a number of users: > (Preferred BE/Wifi 7) - TP-Link BE9300/BE550 ($179-$299 US) > (Preferred AXE/Wifi 6E) - TP-Link Archer AXE75/AXE5400 (~$190 US) > (Preferred AXE/Wifi 6E) - Davolink 'Kevin' Minion 6E ($129 US) > (AX/Wifi 6) - GL.iNet Beryl GL-MT3000 ($90 US) > (AX/Wifi 6) - PRISMXR Puppis S1 ($80 US) > (Last Resort AC/Wifi 5) - GL.iNet Opal GL-SFT1200 ($50 US) > (Last Resort AC/Wifi 5) - TP-Link Archer C6 or A6 ($40 US) > Achievable rates are subject to your specific setup, headset, wireless environment and could vary considerably. With a good setup you can expect: > AXE/BE (up to ~600Mbps) > AX (up to ~400Mbps) > AC (up to ~200Mbps)

Yes! I’m using this [dedicated router](https://a.co/d/ceunyIx) Also as much as I love Virtual Desktop I recently switched to using Meta Link instead based on [this video and the results have been fantastic](https://youtu.be/C799qSimMd4?si=b2gFpmq6TDfaIfP6)

PrismXR Puppis S1 saved me - I’m on college WiFi so I don’t have much control over my internet specifics. Puppis S1 isn’t as plug-and-play as others make it out to be, it takes a little fiddling in settings to make sure it’s working correctly, but once it is, it’s SO worth it.

I would recommend the Puppis S1. It is ideal in capability and value in an uncongested 5ghz environment.

Have had very good luck with the PrismXR Puppis dedicated VR router: https://www.prismxr.com/products/prismxr-puppis-s1-ax3000-wifi6-router-for-pc-vr-streaming-quest-3-compatible Puppis S1 Specialized Router for PC-VR Streaming – PrismXR Think very likely worth considering other options, cause for sure any dedicated router that wasn’t too complex to setup would have advantages… …but found this to be a perfect/easy solution for me so def wanted to share. 💜
